Erling Haaland / signs for Dortmund

I have intentionally not replied to this thread after being castigated for having the nerve to suggest that Haaland should not be a priority for us, since it would hamper Greenwoods development and even force the club to send him on loan. While also removing investment from where its really needed: in midfield.
With some Swedish jibes thrown in as well. Its very much the Caf this thread so I dont really mind.
The "hate" against Haaland after his performance yday is as stupid as the posters on here claiming that Haaland reaches a top speed of 35 km/h plus after 20 meters already. If the latter was even remotely true, he is practising the wrong sport because he would feck Usain Bolt himself up. I dont know if anyone watching the game yday saw this athletic superman that has been projected in this thread
Haaland is a very exciting and promising player, but he is nowhere near proven enough to be anything by second fiddle to Martial should he arrive at United. Which would mean a new plan for Greenwood, who held his own and then some against City on the Etihad as the sole #9.
The money Haaland would cost is better invested elsewhere in the squad.
Performing in a completely inferior league like the Austrian one, having some very good performances in the champions league while not performing for his national team (for whatever reason) reminds me a lot of Fred tbf.
And believe me: there will be a new Haaland soon, we cant just buy every exciting player on the market as soon one emerges, disregarding the composition of our squad. If we were to buy a new #9 now at Haalands age or thereabout. it should be a generational talent like Mbappe.
And sorry, Haaland is not even close to that. Yet.
There have been a lot of stories in the Scandinavian papers about Raoila advising him to go to the "bigger" Leipzig or a club like Dortmund and wait one or two years for a move to one of the really big clubs in Europe. Which of course would be great for Raiolas own pockets, since it would be two transfers instead of one, but in this case he is probably not wrong.
There is so much wrong with this post, and since I have some time on my hands I’ll adress some of it.

First bolded part: Rubbish! Also, you’ve intentionally not replied since yesterday? Wow! The dicipline! Not wanting him because you see other priorities is fair. You’ve been pulled up because you’ve spouted some absolute crap. Like how you’ve watched him a lot and compared his explosiveness with Lukaku, which leads to...

Second bolded part: It was measured to 36km/h actually, over about 30 m or so.

Third bolded part: So now you’re doing the exact same thing you’re criticising others for in this very same post? Judging by one single game.. He was well handled yesterday and wasn’t able to showcase his top speed or acceleration this game.

Fourth bolded part: Greenwood didn’t play a second vs City.

Fifth bolded part: He hasn’t played for Norway the last two breaks because of injury and illness, and thus wasn’t even part of the squads. A little difficult to perform then, no? This part I spesifically remember you being explained earier in the thread, so what’s the point of bringing it up again?

Just pipe down and give it a rest won’t you please. You’re starting to look like an agenda poster.

Ive seen the reasons they didnt want him. They’re all bad. Look at Caf turning away from a 19 year old kid with a monster season behind him in the CL thats available for 20 million euro

But happen to see Hwang one game and now he’s the new Xavi.
As opposed to judging a player a by 5 games and calling it a monster season... I’ve never heard of Hwang, what I’ve seen of Halaand his not the style of striker that we need

Like I said before, I'd happily take Haaland if he does indeed have a €20 million release clause, but this talk of being a generational talent and costing almost £80 million always seemed so weird to me.

Now people are comparing him to Rashford - are you saying Rashford is a generational talent as well?

Sorry to but in but your passionate defence of a player who doesn’t even play for us got me thinking. A lot of people look like pro halaand agenda posters. But yeah he is very similar to Lukaku in style, I mentioned this before and someone mentioned that even Ole compared his style to Lukaku

He is similar to Lukaku at 19 :) has the time to get even better ;)

Rashford is genuinely very good. Look at what he’s doing and who knows how he will develop...

Yeah. We got rid of that style of striker because we want to play with fluid players. So don’t make sense signing him.

Rashford is genuinely very good. Look at what he’s doing and who knows how he will develop...
I know, I love Marcus and always tried to defend him from over the top criticism and straight up abuse when it came to his performances on the pitch.

My point was that Haaland was being compared to Mbappe as to show how he is a generational talent and now some are saying "look at how many bad games Rashford has had", it's hypocritical.

Yeah. We got rid of that style of striker because we want to play with fluid players. So don’t make sense signing him.
Haaland is mobile and can link up play fine.

Lukaku couldn't hold the ball up, couldn't pass quickly and got worn out after a few sprints. He also thought he was better than us and quit when the going got tough.

I'll be honest I haven't watched this kid in a game yet, so was excited to see him in the flesh after seeing some previous clips. Let's be honest he wasn't good. No big deal, plenty of young players have off days esp against the top teams. He's a work in progress, a kid learning his trade. Ole has made it know he wants young, hungry players who they can improve. He would fit the bill. He has looked good in a weak league and and in some CL games. He needs to make the step up. Talk of him being a generational talent etc is a lot of bollicks and puts undue pressure on a young players shoulder. If he came here for the low release clause being speculated then sure, he's worth a punt, but anything more than that I'd give him a pass.

Yeah. We got rid of that style of striker because we want to play with fluid players. So don’t make sense signing him.

I dont think we "got rid" of Lukaku, I think OGS rated him highly as an impact sub or specialist against low-block teams - it was just that Lukaku wanted to be 1st choice striker in every game more or less.

Had we still had him I think we would be on par with Chelsea for 4th, since Lukaku is somewhat of an specialist against those teams we have lost points against.

And thats why getting Haaland as a Lukaku clone would be a good idea.

I think lots of our Norwegian friends overhype him and post on here wanting him to join and you have the few who are influenced by hype/numbers that follow. It’s the only thing that explains the overly passionate nonsense people are posting

The CL season is as long as it is, his participation has ended after 6 games, he set new scoring records and did well. Consdering the players he beat for said record are named Leonel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo amongst others, I feel like giving the guy some plaudits is appropriate.

He's also scoring for fun in the Austrian league, but its a bit weak compared to the EPL so not a great comparison. The only takeaway you have is that he's just a better player than anyone there.

What type of striker is it that you envision we need? And why is Haaland not that?

Ole made that comment when he was 17 and it was more in relation to Lukaku the freak teenager, not the current 1970s Arnold Schwarzenegger inspired one.

exactly. At best I see this Halaand chap as being someone can be a bit of a flat track bully but will get marked out by decent teams. So if we get him for £20m and his happy being a rotation player then could be good.

Ole on Halaand “He reminds me of the type of striker Lukaku is”
Yeah sure he’s comparing to Lukaku at 17 size only . (Sarcasm)

He's just 19 years old mate, and if we can get him for anything under 40 million now he would be worth a punt.

Haaland is an unbelievable talent and one sub-par performance against the reigning European champions doesn't change that IMO. His frame, size, mobility, power and not to mention clinical finishing in the box are all fitting attributes for us and, at 19, he's only going to get better. However, I think there's a good chance he follows the RB route to Leipzig (probably to replace Werner) before making a properly 'big' move in 2022 or something to an elite club. Either way, if he's available and willing to come to us - snap him up!

On another note though, like others have suggested above, I have also been thoroughly impressed by Hwang and Minamino whenever I've watched them. I bet Salzburg are delighted that Haaland is earning all the admiring glances from scouts near and far as it means these two gems are sliding heavily under the radar. I would happily take either (more so Hwang) at Utd as both would improve us in different ways.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand he's comparing him to Lukaku at a similar age. But whatever floats your boat mate.

The mental gymnastics that takes place by some people. “He reminds me of the type of striker Lukaku is” how is he clearly comparing Halaand to Lukaku at 17? Also he would have said “was” and mentioned Lukaku as a teenager. Anyways whatever floats your boat mate.

Yeah, sorry about that, should have been Spurs at home.
Same point though. Greenwood is looking better and better as he is getting minutes. I dont see why we should invest 100m in an area where we already have an immense talent who is 1 year younger than Haaland, when the money needs to be invested elsewhere.
And I should pipe down?
It was an objective post. I actually really like Haaland as a player.
Posters like you is exactly why threads like this get out of hand.
I explicitly said that it was stupid to judge Haaland just from yesterdays game. He is a really good prospect.
But then you come up with stuff like this about "top speed". Please provide a source for this idea that Haaland has reached a speed of 36 km/h after 30 meters (it was explicitly stated 20m by some other poster here, which is physically impossible for a human being, and what I was replying to).
Even 30 meters is not close to being rational for a player of Haalands build.
Top speed by a top sprinter like Bolt or any other doing the 100 m dash is reached between 60-80 meters in full sprint on turf in sprint shoes. If Haaland could reach a top speed of 36 km/h after 20 or even 30 meters in football shoes on grass: he would be the second or third coming of a stanolozol-fed Ben Johnson.
And he is not.
Haaland is a very fast player over a longer stretch. As was Lukaku when he burst on the stage. How is that comparison a negative? Lukaku was also extremely fast over longer stretches until he bulked up too much.
Haaland is not quicker than Messi, Salah, Mane, Rashford or James over 15-20 meters. This is not criticism, its just fact. You just needed to watch the game yday to see that.
As is that Haaland (and Lukaku, and Smalling for that matter) would kill those players over 60-80 meters, maybe with the exception of Rashford. But thats not football-effective pace.
And stop asking to ask other posters to pipe down, its not a good look. This is a forum, remember?

Haaland has produced a goal or assist every 41 minutes of CL group stage play and is reported to have a 20m buyout clause. Hwang has produced a goal or assist every 67 minutes of CL group stage play and has a 5m price tag at transfermarkt. Adding both to the center of United's front line would significantly improve United's ability score against a low block, imho. For a 30-40m transfer fee, I would consider that good business.

I doubt they will give a shit about his price tag at transfermarkt. Defenitely won't let him go for ~20 million, especially if Haaland really has a clause and leaves.

Price tag no but the buyout clause? If we can convince the player big time...

Is that 20 million clause verified? If so its a no brainer, but spending 80M it’s risky as feck.

You really are stubborn, aren’t you? A link to a clip of the run where he was measured at 36km/h was post here yesterday (underneath). Judge for yourself how long that sprint was and when he is at top speed. I’m Sorry, but this sprint is not fiction. Let’s be clear; there is nothing rational with his build. Glad to hear you rate him though.

I saw this and tied to find an article on it as I have seen this before some place in Norway. Here is one article in english.
All articles on this refers to Sky Austria.

https://www.time24.news/2019/10/the-haaland-show-continues-in-austria.html

I can not find a video though, but I do know that what you saw against Liverpool was not Haaland in shape, due to pneumonia earlier and a hip problem som weeks ago. Not in the same shape these days as earlier due to those problems.
I can not see any reference to 30 meters and I do not know how far he ran before he was clocked in at 36 km/h but Robben had 37 once and has the record. So he is fast. He is also tall and lanky though and has a special style of running so it might not look that fast.

So the 36 km/h is correct. And quite insane fast imo.

He's just 19 years old mate, and if we can get him for anything under 40 million now he would be worth a punt.

Im sorry, but there is no way that thats over 30 km/h even. Its to short of a run. Its not possible. Its fake news. If pointing out what is obvious is stubborn so be it.
You dont reach top speed until 50--80 meters running straight forward depending on your body type. Shorter players with a shorter stride will reach top speed earlier because they will touch the ground more times during the first 10-20 meters, which is what generates speed.
I dont dispute that Haaland might have been clocked at top speed at 36 km/h, sounds reasonable, even Fosu-Mensah reached that once, but its not that run and not over 30 meters. I am not going to argue again why top speed is pretty much irrelevant in top football. Been there, done that.

Yeah, I am out of this thread after this post. Fosu-Mens pushed my button and accused me of going soft so here I am and discussing fake news and destroying this thread.
But come on: You cant fecking run 20-30 meters and reach a top speed of over 35 km/h. (20 meters was the original suggestion)
On a wet football field with football boots. How is this even an issue?
Its fake news and not possible.
Here you have Usain Bolts graph when he broke the world record: after 30 meters he was at 39 km/h. From blocks, with spiked shoes on a track. From a start pistol. He reached his top speed at 60 meters.
http://members.iinet.net.au/~bc_j400/graph.jpg
I dont know if I can help you more than that.
Yeah one thing, Lukaku (the bulked up version) was clocked at a top speed of 36,43 km/h, which he famously shared himself after a training session last season. Only beaten by Dalot at United then. And I guarantee it was not after 30 meters or before. Maybe that will help you see how much top speed means in reality. Because basically by your reasoning Fat Lukaku is still faster than Haaland?!
Now I am out of this thread. Merry christmas.

He’s just a decent prospect on a hot streak tbh

3rd placed teams in the group phase have always fell into the Europa League, which is why no one values the Europa League when it very clearly Europe's second tier competition.

The Uefa Cup under any name has never been the most prestigious competition, it used to be the 3rd most important. Doesn't mean its not worth winning.

Says me. We knocked you out the last time and we'll undoubtedly do it again

If we are so gash, why haven't you beaten us in last couple of seasons? Celebrating draws at OT says it all

United beat Liverpool last year, to be fair though it was probably before you started supporting them.

Local (reliable) paper RN and local radio station claim Haaland took a chartered plane to Dortmund and got picked up by a BVB employee.
