Honestly I'm not a big fan of it either but there are ways to definitely make it work, most importantly the CM pairing. However if we were to get him and play our strongest attack I don't see another way to fit him in without leaving one of our best players out.

But my point was about net spending, surely you can see the difference? We buy, we sell, at the end we have been spending less since Jose's last transfer window and it's a fact. The January one will prove my point further, we would only sign a striker as a squad option and might buy a midfielder if Matic is sold now, rather then wait for his contract to expire.
In the summer we would look for CMs and CAMs that can replace Pogba and that would be that, though as I said, the LB position might need addressing as well. It's how the club operates now, whether we like it or not, but this is the result of our continuous underachieving.
Fact of the matter is that when Martial is injured, we are in huge trouble. A 33 year old Mario mandzukic who's honestly a bit slow these days, will not do.
No no mate discussion was just about weather to sign him or not, not about how he would fit in and personally think there is room for the two of them, they could both easily fit in to one system plus both class at the focal point.
I would like to see Sanchez/Mata/Lingard/Pereira all go with a CF and a RW coming in, I would be happy then for the next 5+ years with that attack for me it would be versatile to various systems and has everything you could want in an attack.
No. 10 position is an interesting one, be good to see what Ole does when he has Pogba back if Fred/McTominay keep playing well, I would love to see Rashford Martial James with Pogba as the 10 or more advanced AMC with McT and Fred behind him.
Obviously if Pogba goes a new CM and 10 will probably come in. I just think we are short, look at Bournemouth away if Martial/Rash are not on their game we have no plan B, not winning any leagues like that for me.

Haaland can score goals with his head and both feet, can hold up the ball well and is strong as a bull. He would be a great advantage to us, up front.

Given how good he is now he’s being given a run of games at 9, I have a lot more sympathy with him, he must have been shaking his head at being overlooked given how the alternatives were performing.
They sort of manage it well, although Sancho has already left due to their depth and it looks like Sane is on the way out too.
That might have been our eventual figure, but it’s well known we were in the market for more players. If Dybala has joined in a swap deal as intended, then you can add another £75m+ to net spend. Just because we didn’t eventually spend it, it doesn’t mean we didn’t have additional funds available if the right players were available.
We obviously can't refrain from buying a huge prospect in order to protect our current options, that would be insane. If this lad is actually realistically attainable, we should go for it. Martial isn't Harry Kane, i.e. an established top class striker who is set to be our main striker for years to come barring unforeseen circumstances. He's far from that, in fact. Greenwood is a talent, nothing more, nothing less, and very young at that - arguing that bringing someone in will hinder his development is nonsensical. And Rashford is better in a wider role anyway.
Also, Haaland is young enough that he won't necessarily mind a bit of rotation - at least not if he likes the manager and believes in the "project".

I'll be glad if something's really happening on this front. If someone has sense for strikers with legit impact, it should be Ole and I hope we're not wasting our time, like in Dybala's case.

Yeah mate you will always get rumblings, same with Foden but you get that at all big clubs now as clubs no what it takes to fight on all fronts, how Liverpool are getting through at the minute is insane surely their players will break down soon, playing every game no injuries needs to come to a head soon.
You can make any formation work, but to make a great 442 you'll need too many specifics (i.e a 2 man midfield that can stand on their own against 3 men midfield, 2 out and out winger (which is a dying breed), Strong and small striker (again not many teams have a colleciton of 4 great striker), 2 very good fullback that can bomb forward and equally good at defence.
Hence why most managers opt for 451 (4231, 4321) variant, because you can make them work with a collection of versatile player. Any 3 midfield with 2 workhorse is easier to find compared to a keane/scholes combo. Wide forwards cutting in is abundance these days.
So.. off course you can make 442 works, but the amount of work to build a new team that can not only work, but challenging for the biggest honor with 442 is slim. 442 is more than just 2 strikers against easy team, it's not as simple as that.
Hopefully we prioritise the glaring holes in midfield and the right wing before we get another striker but if the opportunity is there then there is no reason not to sign him.

Haven't been writing here for a long time, but I've been sneaking around reading this forum for quite a while, and there's been constant complaining on how the quality of the players isn't good enough, and how the squad is much too thin. And here we are, linked with one of the most exiting forwards of football, and the big problem is that the competition will be too tough up front. I'm puzzled.
If we have a chance of getting Haaland,we should sign him.
He looks made for the Premier League and we need another striker and he seems perfect.He is different to Martial/Rashford/Greenwood.Price tag is not too bad either in my opinion.

As for Haaland I wonder how much his goalscoring will drop off when he plays for a team that doesn't have particularly creative players next to him. Hwang and Minamino are not like Rashford and Martial. They each have 3 assists in the champions league this season with 2.3 key passes a game. I'm sure he'd still score goals but not at the same pace

You are right to be puzzled - it makes no sense at all. We need at least 5 really good options for our 3 attacking positions. Currently we have 3, which means when we get injuries (and we will) then the drop in the quality of our football is substantial. This isn't even guesswork either - it pretty much describes our season so far perfectly.
I like this setup but the best formation for a proper balance is 4-3-3 and i think we can easily workout a team for the very same,

€60 million for a kid that is just emerging from a middle-low level league seems a lot, but again seeing how much Joao Felix cost and transfers like Mbappe, Rodrygo, etc suddenly the amount doesn’t look as too much.

RW IMO isn't as much of a gaping hole these days because James settled in quite well. Mata, Lingard, Pereira etc. can play there in a pinch as well even though they aren't very good there.
CM I think we're fine unless Pogba leaves. We're doing fairly well with Fred + McTominay even while Pogba is injured. We could use a proper DM if (when) Matic leaves, but not an emergency IMO.
CF - We've established this season that Rashford isn't an adequate backup to Martial there, he does much better in an inside left wing role. If we buy a CF, having three players rotate between two positions over the 50 or so games we play in a year isn't too bad. We might even play 4-4-2 sometimes if we're chasing a game in which case all 4 of James, Rashford, Martial, Haaland can play.
What's the plan if he ever come? Replace Martial? Put him in competition? I think Martial is well positioned right now... but it's always good to have talented players.
He could start with Martial wide, or one could come off the bench instead of us having no proven goalscorer to bring on if a match isnt going our way

Very interesting player... but (and I might get slaughtered for this) I do worry a little that signing him might mean we don't sign the midfielder, #10, or creative fullback, that we really need. Martial, Rashford, James and Greenwood are all likely to improve next season.
We don't know how good James can be long term and IMO we need to upgrade on both Scott and Fred. Even if you think they are good enough to be starters for a top team (which is what we are trying to become) we need depth and after those two all we have is Matic and Garner.
We are desperate for a creative force in the final third and we have no natural right winger and if James goes down we have no one who can do a job there. Lingard and Mata are just awful.
We need to have 2 good players in every position and we are very thin. You improve the quality of a squad by replacing your current good players with even better ones. I don't see the harm in making some of these guys squad players if better players are brought in.
He's one of them employed by the club also. So you should think he's awful too.
We've missed having a true flat track bully also. Somebody who really enjoys just smashing 3-4-5 goals against rubbish defences.

He looks a serious talent. But I still haven't seen a feasible line up with him martial and rashford. Any scenario with either of those as a right sided forward doesn't work imo.
