So how did you determine that its an 'American' acronym...

Is it not just an easy to use abbreviation...

Or must we type 'Premier League' each time to satisfy your pet hate?

MUFC
YMCA
ABU
EPL
FA

Dont see nothing wrong with that.

because its only americans who say it, they say it all over the place.

whats so hard about saying Prem or FAPL

Whose FA, smart pants?

The Scottish FA?

The American FA?

The Spanish FA?

If theres one thing i can't stand its stumpy thumbs. Its one of the reasons the yanks are so hated. Never have i encountered a people as stumpy thumbed as the americans.

You know what they say about men with stumpy thumbs, don't you?

If so, let me know, because I don't know what they say either.

Canadians say it too.

You can add Malaysians, Indians, and a whole host of countires where English football is not the only game in town.

Prem sounds a lot worse than EPL, which is shorter than FAPL, hence it being the preferred usage in the rest of the world.

Its obviousley not, at least 4 people in thes thread not from America have stated they say it.

Prem? who the fcuk says that?

Billy from Yorkshire "hey Tommy, did you see the highlights of the FAPL last night'

No where in this country have I ever heard it called FAPL in a conversation.

Your all nitpicking.

Why is this so important? Why don't you just concentrate on bloody football rather that how it's called outside England?

Most people outside England call it EPL. It's called EPL, because it's ENGLISH league, and mind you, there are other leagues in the world.

If you really don't like the way it's presented outside England, just don't sell TV license to other countries. Then you can enjoy your "Premiership" as exclusively as possible.

amen

Your a total tit. People like you are the reason the rest of the world despises America.

1. i am one of the good yanks and people i meet abroad generally love me. you don't know me so dont assume i am a certain way.

2. the world despises america because it's the cool thing to do. we're one of the only remaining superpower states in the world so it's easy to hate whoevers on top. man united were hated when we were on top, chelsea has been the most hated for the past 2 seasons.

3. cry me a freakin river. the only reason why im acting like a jerk is because whiners on this thread are being jerks. the more people complain and come up with "no epl" threads, the more i will say EPL, so stop bringing it up.

No, because you occupied and attacked other countries, such as Iraq, Vietnam, Afghanistan..
..and take credit for the inventions which actually are not yours.. such as world wide web...

One positive thing about Americans, or at least the ones who participate in internet forums, is that they have a basic grasp of grammar.
Why thank you, Eric. Much appreciated.

That's some feat from the Americans right there. To occupy and then attack a nation is very hard to do, I would presume. Does this mean they chased themselves out in the end?

Reading this thread again in its entirety has made me reach the following conclusions;

a) The Americans are responsible for coining the EPL acronym. This is quite possibly an insidious attempt to undermine not only the game but also the English way of life.

b) Obviously, this is not the only indiscretion on the part of the Americans and they are also to be blamed for everything else that may be wrong in the world.

c) In view of the above, it's perfectly acceptable to vent one's anger on any poster on here who is an American.

Now that this thread has reached the zenith of its potential, it's probably time for it to go LT. That's locked thread to all you non-Americans.

The EPL is the best soccer league in the whole world.

i agree that iraq and vietnam were wrong, but i fully supported the war against the taliban and osama's boys. there was no way we are going to get attacked the way we did on 9/11 and just stand there and pick our noses, just because "the world" is a bunch of hippies who are for peace. and it's stupid to hate americans for those wars because those are the workings of our government, and most americans don't really support those wars, bar afghanistan.

who cares if someone takes credit for inventions, every country claims they invented/started something. do you not think this is a really stupid reason to hate a people from a country?

If grammar on an internet forum excites you so much why don't you give them all rim jobs then you fecking bender.

I'm sorry. This statement above makes no sense. Who is it he's supposed to be giving a rim job to? Clearly you say "them" but who does "them" specify? Is it refering to "Grammar?" Or is it refering to "Internet forum?" If it is refering to either of those, then I'm afraid your statement makes no fecking sense. I would think that it's nearly impossible to give grammar a rim job, as it is likely quite difficult to give an Internet forum a rim job as well.

Is English your first language Blake? If so, might I reccomend that you get some lessons, as you can't really speak it.

He guessed american as thats most likely - as the 'English Premier League' doesn't even exist in England. Its called the 'Premiership' in the country in which it exists so technically its 'P' - you could maybe get away with The English Premiership 'TEP'

So its not the same as MUFC which at least works.

How exactly does MUFC work? Last time I checked the "Football Club" portion of our name has been dropped. Are you referring to the Manchester United Financial Corporation? If so, I don't think that exists.

i was watching the arsenal v manunited match on FSC and a BRITISH commentator said "welcome to the barclay's english premier league!". it's not just us americans who call it the EPL
The man was working for Fox ffs. His audience is entirely outside the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
We just call it The Premier league, The Prem, The League, The Championship (WE know which one..) (when talking about winning it).
Call it what you want, I say. As long as we win it.

I've never called the SerieA, the Italian SerieA. Or La Liga, the Spanish La Liga. No idea why people call the Prem/PL. . . the EPL. Unless, it's marketed as such, outside of the British Isles.

That is the case, because Scotland also has a Premier League. Over here every league is preceeded by its host nation - German Bundesliga (duh), Spain's La Liga (really?) Italian SerieA (mama mia!) French Ligue1 (sacre bleu!)

You get the picture.
