English cricket thread

thank feck for that first innings lead

England well in this game. These two at the crease are liabilities and the tail starts at 7.

220-ish is pretty much chasable.

'Would have an okay chance, assuming they take the next 7 wickets for about 60 runs' is an interesting definition of 'well in this game'.

I think anything under 300 can be chased. Pakistan need 130 more here.

Excellent bowling. We need to get to at least a lead of 250

450 can be chased, if they bowl dross. I think I know where my money would be with anything around 250 though.
I obviously meant factoring in their performance and conditions.

Anything over 200 will be too much.

Would agree if it was a day 5 chase. But this would be a day 4 chase. Not to mention half the first day was wiped out so the pitch is still relatively undercooked.

Rizwan looked average in the first innings. Hopefully this isn’t a 100 all out thing.

In that case, if you factor in their performance, and as such you're assuming they perform alright in the field, then over 250 isn't getting chased.

60 runs is 25+ overs in this context which is a lot. Not much between the teams right now according to the bookies.

It's not great for his confidence but I don't think Bess is going to help England run through this Pakistan lineup. They need 2 quicks on.

Anderson is finally on the decline. He has strayed at least once an over - not something you'd say about him in the last 10 years in England.

Maybe, he's certainly had a poor test, but he also just hasn't played much cricket for a year. I'd still back him to find his groove.

I think his natural pace is 86-88mph, last summer he was in good rhythm with miles in the legs and a bit wound up by Australia.
This really, yes. He's a mood bowler, get him angry and he finds a yard. He would benefit the crowd being there to generate an atmosphere perhaps.

Did you hear his interview last night, and if so what did you make of it?

Really? Shame. I thought he was 90mph+ bowler.

I don't think it's a shame, 90mph+ bowlers are very exciting to watch but through the history of the game the most successful quicks have been line and length bowlers. I'd rather Archer fall into that category with the ability to crank it up than flog himself into the ground chasing pure speed, the challenge for Archer and Root is to figure out how they can access that 'extra gear' on demand similar to how Broad can go on 'one of those spells', it's not an easy thing to just do unfortunately.

He's too shy and deferential for a guy with his skill set, the captain is not always right!

EDIT: Also how thick is his accent

The risk-reward of Stokes bowling here does not tally.

I was thinking the same thing.

Joe Root is the worst captain in international cricket. Not on the basis of this - Stokes' fitness is between the two of them but generally.. it wouldn't be a surprise if with the right information you decided that this was not smart with 3 other pacers to call upon.

Anyone has any idea what the feck Michael Holding is saying?

Edit: he's just saying umpires call shouldnt exist
