English cricket thread

It's just surprising because you'd expect England to bat well against the swinging ball but they seem to struggle.
Unless they choose to specialise as first class cricketers, which I think is a good idea, I don't think anyone's gonna know how to play a test innings against a swinging ball when playing as much white ball cricket as they do.

216/7, just need to bat sensibly now, just bat the 50 overs anything over 250 you would expect to be too much for Ireland

Does Willey get into England T20 team? He is POTSeries so far.

Still feel bad for him that he missed out on squad selection for World Cup. Perhaps he can be included in T20 World Cup squad?

Often does. Definitely expect him to make the squad, now Plunkett's been retired.

His entire game across all formats has fallen to pieces. He might be done.
When he was dropped from international cricket last year he took a brief break from the game and then began winning games single handedly with the bat for Worcs, so I think it's still too early to tell.

Ireland 203-1. Need 125 off 17 overs.

Seem to be flying right now and have proper batting still on the bench.

I think they will win this.

One days really are a lovely format of the game. For what is essentially such a long period of play it’s remarkable how many games come down to the wire like this.

Amazing win for Ireland. Really happy for them.

That have done well this series. Didn’t embarrass themselves in their 2 losses, despite being in very precarious batting positions.

And they really fight back in the field today, when they could have conceded 400, and the batting response to chase 328 and win is top level international cricket.

Well done to the Irish!

England deserved to lose one game this series, were underwhelming with the bat in every game.

Hopefully that's the last we see of James Vince for England and as much as I'm a big fan I think Moeen is nearing the end for England too.

Well done to Ireland.

Yeah. ODI is now my favourite format. The different phases of an innings require different tactics, T20 skills have really helped improve it.

It’s also great at international level that any team can beat the other.

Roy, Vince, Ali have been very poor. Mahmood and Curran didn’t take opportunity to exert their credentials either.

Only Billings and Willey have really excelled.

He was very good in the South Africa T20, Roy and himself have had a terrible series here though.

Was he? Think he had one good knock with the bat. Low scores in the other two innings and didn't provide much with the ball.

Moeen in ODI's has been pretty poor for a while. Especially with the bat, he's like a number 11 these days.

It's a real shame because when he's on form he's lovely to watch but he just looks completely bereft of any confidence.

No idea why Livingstone wasn’t given a shot in at least one of the games over Vince. Curran is better at T20s where he can vary his bowling over 4 overs but not consistent enough for 10. Thought Mahmood done ok and has the quality to develop further.

Roy is a boom or bust player and is clearly the latter in this series. Ali has been poor in his batting for a while now. Willey could be fighting for the Plunkett spot from the World Cup team.

It might have been to be fair, my memories a bit vague. I‘m still a recent convert to cricket and probably more easily impressed but his technique in that innings was brilliant.

Just realised it’s the start of England vs Pakistan test series tomorrow!

As I’m ‘working from home’ and also not going out much, really loving all this back to back cricket and football this summer!

Yeah the thing is with Roy he could easily average like 60 in a series vs India or the Aussies. And yet has averaged about 5 against Ireland  He's still a quality player, him and Bairstow have the highest average opening partnership in ODI history (will have gone down a lot this series ).

Really looking forward to watching this Pakistan side. Babar, Naseem Shah and Shaheen especially.

Excited to see Naseem Shah bowl, looks another real talent. Expect our batting to depend heavily on how Babar performs.

Brave call batting first in these conditions. Think it's a good toss to lose.

Nah it's dry af, get through the morning session (yes it's Pakistan, big ask) but I don't think you want to be chasing many in the fourth innings.

Beauty from Archer. It’s been coming.

I find it amazing how quickly international bowlers figure out batsmen, I reckon they had that exact mode of dismissal in mind for Abid Ali after about 12 balls.
