That's the other issue with Buttler. You could excuse his shit batting if he was an excellent keeper, but he's just, fine.

Don't agree with Holding there, thought that was very obviously not out in real time.

Stokes has the ability to do exactly what he wishes under the most high pressure situations. Amazing

A fantastic, disciplined effort by the West Indies who followed their captain's lead. England need to develop a ruthless streak.

So so happy. Nothing in sport makes me feel as happy as a West Indies win :D

England have several issues:

Batting line up lacks class in middle order, and has a long tail, including poor return from Buttler.
Bowling lacks variety, and it seems they picked wrong players for this wicket.

Selection issues for 2nd test:

Pope or Denly for Root
Archer or Wood or Anderson for Broad and/or Ali
Buttler or Foakes

I'd go

Burns
Sibley
Crawley
Root
Stokes
Pope
Buttler
Ali
Bess
Archer
Broad

Expect 2 changes Root & Board for Wood & Denly.
Would love Foakes for Buttler but that’s never going to happen.

I feel like the only person who thinks Blackwood's innings was not a great one. Seeing a lot of praise for it online. It got the job done, but it wasn't an organized innings.

England threw that game away twice - yesterday with the collapse and today again.

I find WI's bowling much more impressive than their batting. It was disciplined and high quality for large periods of time.

I see both teams as pretty weak batting wise with good attacks. The return of Root might be enough to make a big difference.

Would like to see Ben Foakes get a run again, in my opinion he was wrongly dropped

Yeah I am very much in the camp of him being given a proper chance but my gut feeling is that we are going to keep persevering with Buttler even though he clearly isn't the same player we have seen in the one day format. I am a Worcestershire fan and think that Cox is a very capable wicket-keeper batsmen but realise there are already many ahead of him in the pecking order.

I also think Hussain was spot on when he says that Denly has got so many starts in his short time playing test cricket for England but it is time to move on and keep faith in the young talents like Sibley, Crawley, Burns & Pope. I admit they have still got much to learn in this form of the game but they have definitely shown glimpses of what they can do.

How did England throw it away today?

Ultimately they were 50-75 runs short in their first innings and that’s what cost them.

Two of our best batsmen are missing, to be fair. Bravo and Hetty would make a lot of difference to our batting attack.

Broad masterclass incoming for the second Test? He's an absolute s***house but I don't understand how England can ever leave him out for a Test. Revolving door of English batting set to continue.

Where are you from? I'm Trini and about the same age group as Darren Bravo, always thought he was average. His (half) brother on the other hand is a player.

Trini as well. Nice to have a fellow Trini on here:D Darren Bravo has, over the course of his career not made the most of his insane amount of talent, but for me he’s still our most talented test batsman, for what it’s worth, and he is a big miss these days. Darren Bravo could and should have been a lot more than he is.

Of course DJ is the man, but not in test cricket:lol:

The latest suggestion is he went home (Hove) in between moving venues. Players have a GPS tracker in their accreditation which makes it a bit weird that they did not respond to this breach before today. I reckon he's missing a test for something stupid like picking up another XBox controller or something .

Annoying - I was looking forward to the test and Archer was fantastic to watch last test. I work from home(due to covid) and game starts at 3:30pm IST, just leave it running in the background and watch ever now and then.. made working from home a lot better

If Curran's replacing him as @paulscholes18 mentioned, that is a weak attack

I'm disappointed too, was looking forward to watching Archer. I don't understand how the bubble works, are Wood and Anderson no longer in it, why can't they call them up? The England selection committee has not covered themselves in glory so far this series. Also letting the England players drive themselves between bubbles seems like an oversight considering all the other lengths they have gone to get cricket on.

The whole thing seems daft when you compare it to how lax the football procedures are in comparison.

Yes, F1 had drivers going back to Monaco in between races too.

I'm not a fan of the statement the ECB put out, Archer knew his responsibilities and should have cleared any visit with the team first but there was no detail on what he exactly did (if he lives alone for instance, what is the risk?). I can understand the playing group feeling perhaps they need to apply some discipline to ensure the rest of the team does not transgress as there will be loads of players who would love to pop home in between tests. There is no suggestion of that in the statement however.
