English cricket 2015 - NZ, The Ashes, Pak and SA

Sorry mate you didn't went for it. The run rate was below 3. It's just Buttler's game to be aggressive I think. Very hard for players like him to block and block.
Yeah you are right to be fair, i was just bitterly disappointed to not see us stay in and bat the day out, I think that a series win against New Zealand would have just given us a little bit of confidence going in to the ashes, not to matter though it was still a very enjoyable game.

NZ need to find a very good opener and I think they're set for the future. England on the other hand need to sort out Ballance, Ian Bell. Moeen Ali needs to be dropped for a proper spinner and perhaps find way to integrate Steven Finn back in.

No shame in losing to this NZ side. They're the third best test team right now.

Why opener?

Latham and Guptill seem good.

Their real issue is Ross Taylor, imo. He's averaging 35 at #4 and it looks like he has a standard deviation of close to 0. Gets around 35 in every single innings and has no appetite for big runs.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to promote Watling to 4, if he can play like that. Looked top quality.

Test cricket is the only form of the game that's worth watching, and this series should've been a 5 test series. We've been robbed of a humdinger.

No doubt about it, but hey, at least we have a bunch of ODI's to look forward to  Most pointless form of cricket there is.

completely agree

Just seen the England ODI squad. All batsmen are positive and free scoring, for once it might actually be fun watching them in limited overs cricket. These changes in the batting order should have been made last year before all those 17 odd ODI's, well in time for the WC.

Hales
Roy
Root
Morgan
Taylor
Buttler/Billings
Stokes/Jordan
Rashid
Plunkett
Finn
Wood/Willy

Ian Bell has to be the most unmemorable 100 cap player ever. Seems like he's just been around forever, just doing enough to stick around but nothing really noteworthy.

Not too familiar with Billings. Plays for Surrey?

Hales and Taylor can't buy a run just now.

There's a massive step-up in quality of bowlers at international level than they've been used to at national level.

Didn't see Root's knock but Buttler was majestic. 400+, maybe it's a new era for England in ODIs after all!

If McCullum gets going, this could be a fun chase.

I think this 'new era' stuff is silly.

No team goes bang-bang and lasts 50 overs. Worked for England today, but you need solid players at 3 and 4 who others can play around.

England need another player like Joe Root.

Someone like Kevin Pietersen, actually.

I don't follow ODI's, but just caught the results of the England innings...

Root CANNOT be stopped!

Good call sir.

Good bowling from Rashid. Really think he should off got called up to the test team against New Zealand. I'd select him over Moeen Ali for the Test and ODI personally.

They have players like that Taylor and Balance are good examples.

Have to say neither Root nor Buttler's innings were bang-bang, England's innings today was built on two very big partnerships

Looking like NZ could set England a target in the same ball park that we set them the other day! Currently 159/2 from 24 overs with Taylor and Williamson at the crease.

England are actually exciting to watch

So Duckworth Lewis has decided that rather than needing 54 off 37 at 9 an over a 'fair' revised target is 34 off 13 at 17.

I appreciate that it has to take wickets in hand into mind. But thats ridiculous.

It's bonkers.

The only sensible suggestion I can remember hearing for doing rain calcs is to remove the same overs from each innings, so if it rains in overs 30-40 in the 2nd innings, then the target is reduced by however many runs were scored in overs 30-40 of the 1st innings.

Southee, Boult and McClenaghan have bowled out though. England can still do this.

Disappointing end to a fabulous game.

Also Ross Taylor is Ed Milliband's tanned doppelganger.

D/L is stupid. This has been a terrific game in a very competitive and exciting series (including the tests). Credit to both sides.

I think D/L is useful in certain scenarios.

But in this scenario when there were so few overs left what's the point of applying D/L? The additional 4 overs would have taken 20-25 mins to bowl. Surely they could have just finished the game in its entirety especially considering that it is a day-night game and light isn't an issue.

D/L in general is an ok system.

The problem is that it relies on statistical data thats outdated.

With current ODI regulations about men out it just isn't accounting properly for the runs a team, even without wickets in hand, can blast with out too much difficulty

D/L doesn't take into account that a team might have a very strong tail or a batsmen heavy side, for example.
