English cricket 2015 - NZ, The Ashes, Pak and SA

45-6 now, Vilas out caught Taylor, bowled Finn. South Africa's days as number one are coming to an end.

Trevor Bayliss will be in line for an OBE the way his tenure has gone thus far. Collingwood got one for scoring what 20 runs in the fifth test in 2005.

I'm not subscribed to the channel this is on but if I use the guide, I can watch a little box of it in the corner of the tv! Happy days!

Taylor's catches were exceptional! Brilliant from England.

This England side can go far

Individually the potential is fantastic. Along with that - they're not sitting on potential. They're delivering now so imagine two years down the line when winning is a habit.

Plus the bowling line up unlike previous years is able to absorb pressure allowing a burst of wickets to come. SA couldn't stop the flow of runs on their own turf.

This is superb from England. This group of England is capable of doing well in all formats.

No repeat of that Pakistan game, please.

Brilliant from Broad. He has these spells where he's unplayable.

Great performance from England.

It's a shame that he has the odd spell where he's unwatchable.

Hopefully having more bowlers to rely on than him & Anderson will afford them the time they need to be at their best when they're thrown the ball.

To beat South Africa in South Africa is a fantastic achievement, it's up there with the best England victories I've seen.

We've got a really promising side in the making here, some potentially incredible players. Root is already incredible of course.

Bravo England. Class from top to bottom, with the bat, with the ball, in the field... Well deserved series win.

With a proper spinner, England would be a very good team.

Question marks over Hales, but rest of the team has great potential. More importantly, they all are playing in the perfect spot for them.

Cook at #1, Compton #3, Root #4, Taylor #5, Stokes and Bairstow at 6 and 7(which I believe should be in reverse) is perfect for their batting qualities.

Unfortunately rest of the cricket world is shit.

Just seeing highlights of India SA from 2010 or whatever... two very good teams..

SA are bang average now. India and Australia are home ground bullies.

Lowest quality of test cricket in the time I have been watching it.

England seem to be the only team in the world actively putting test cricket before limited overs cricket, or am I just dreaming that? Lord knows India don't really give a damn.

We're definitely putting more emphasis on limited overs cricket than we ever have before in England but Test cricket is still the main priority I would say.

I think this team will be the number one ranked test side soon enough.

Hasn't been that long since we were #1. That 3 test series vs SA was great, but it should've been a 5 test series.

Cook has 2 ashes wins and away series wins in India and South Africa as skipper. Not too shabby that.

I was critical of him in the past but he's really improved as a captain in the last year or so. That New Zealand series last summer seems like a turning point for him.

Finn out for the final test match, I guess Woakes will in his place

Edit: Finn is out for the rest of the series

Cr@p session for England in terms of the score. Can't comment on the performance personally as I'm at work but listening to TMS it sounds like a poor bowling session from us.

It was @ChrisNelson predictably too short.

I like Woakes a lot, as previous discussion on here shows, but surely if you're ever going to give Footitt a chance its 2-0 up in a dead rubber?

Couldn't agree more on both points. I'm also a Woakes fan, unfortunately his tally of 7 wickets in 5 previous Tests goes against him in such discussions. However there has been a lot of chopping and changing in the England side over the last couple of years and if he gets a run in the side I think he'll do well.
Same with Footitt, I'm a little biased because I'm a Derbyshire fan and he's been one of our best players of the last 25 years. To me there seems little point in having taken him, especially the age he is, just to sit in the pavillion. Here we are 2-0 up with 1 to play, great chance to see what he can do and they don't play him. Sadly I feel this was his big chance. If Broad, Anderson, Finn, Woakes and Wood are all fit at the start of the summer then he may not get a look in again. Good news for Surrey fans!

Buttler is the better gloveman, but was dropped for his poor run with the bat. Billings is next in line for the gloves I reckon.

Buttler will come back at some point. My guess would be Bairstow would retain his place in the side as a specialist batsman, probably in place of one of Taylor, Compton or Hales. All 3 are under pressure for differing reasons.

I don't like Woakes either. His record in ODIs is average, T20Is average and Tests rubbish. I don't think it will be too long before Topley gets a go, despite what his father says. Good average and control in county cricket and his limited overs international career so far. Being left arm adds variety to the attack as well.

Bairstow's only problem with the gloves, as far as I can see, is a fairly small technical problem where he steps to the leg side and then has to dive back across to take an edge.

Other than that, he's demonstrably better than Buttler to the spinners.

He's also averaging 115 with the bat this series.

If we want to get both in, I'd move Compton to open, Taylor three and Bairstow five.

Cook finally getting some runs.

Patel has to be the most apt 12th man ever. Immense fitness.
