England v India 2021 Cricket Test Series

Ok hopefully this is the end of Pujara and Rahane. Massively overrated batters who have been protected by the current management. Embarrassing performance to say the least.
Rahane needs dropping. He looks calm, does the right things and then gets out to the *exact* same ball. Him being the vc seems to be the sole reason for his inclusion at this point.

When you have fast scorers in the team, who do need someone who can bat 30+ overs by himself. Even more crucial when the whole team can't bat out a day. Pujara hasn't done that a lot this series, but don't see another batter who can do that. I felt he was unlucky the way he go out in this and the last innings.

Kohli looked good today. Threw away his wicket for the first time this series IMO.

Rohit, Pujara, and KL being somewhat unlucky to get out the way they did. Thought India would do well if they batted out the day. 191 gives them a slight chance. Them have proper swing bowlers this time might work in their favour.

As usual, it’s Root vs Indian bowlers. If Root stays, England are favorites. Will be interesting to see what happens if he gets out for a low score.

Haven't managed to watch any of it today but good to see Woakes do well, he's quality and has been unlucky with selections and injury for a while.

Pope over Buttler was unexpected but the right decision I think. Didn't feel quite right playing both Bairstow and Buttler, just play the one in better form and play them at 6 or 7 keeping and another specialist batsman in.

3/4 down tonight and it's proper game on.

No point. If root bats 2-3 sessions, the deficit is wiped out completely. Throughout this series, India had no plan to get him out. They just keep trying the same thing.

Buttler is unavailable due to birth of second child.

The big difference between the English and Indian bowlers is that the Engish are hitting right line and length and waiting for Indians to make a mistake and the Indians are trying to get a wicket every ball. Almost like there is no game plan.
Root has scored so many runs backward of square this series yet we are happy to bowl a little short outside off with no protection there.

Think we have done very well to bring back the match from 127/7. Root's wicket was huge

Even game now. I think we ll be in the game even with an England lead of 30-40. If Eng gets 240+ then different ball game

Ah I see. Selection dilemma if Pope does well. I just don't think Buttler ever really looks like a test player. Bairstow has been inconsistent but has at least at times looked like a test player, especially lower down the order.

Pope is the best of the county batsmen. Should be starting really. Hopefully he can cement his place and Buttler and Bairstow can battle it out for one slot.

Just on my way back from the Oval. Entertaining day but felt pretty even with both teams batting so weakly.

The light wasn’t great at the end and I hoped we could cling on but Root going cheaply was a bit of a downer. Hope one of the middle order can finally stand up and do something - I was disappointed none of them really took advantage of the relative lack of pressure at Headingley.

He got a 50 so not like he did badly! With Root gone, advantage India I would say at this point. Only one other player in the England line up has a test century at the Oval and that’s Moeen.

Root has been the difference between the two sides, massive wicket that. A couple quick strikes in the morning and 190 becomes very competitive. Pitch seemed easy pace but there’s just something that happens every so often to keep the batsmen honest.

Yeah it felt like a big moment. England can recover it if enough of them can get a useful 30-40 to accumulate 250 odd but I think it's more likely we'll be bowled out for just over 200 which feels precarious when you have to bat last.

I would have sent Chris Woakes out to bat as night watchman yesterday. He's done the job before so I can only assume it was because they're not sure if he's ready batting-wise.

Craig Overton can bat but he's someone you want to come in at the end to smash it around a bit. Woakes is someone capable of batting as an equal partner the next day.

Next hour is massive. Every ball feels like it could take a wicket at the moment.

Edit: Classic commentator's curse on Sky there. Talking about how set Malan looks and he edges next ball.
