Serious batting. That four off Root just now..

This is a great pitch, England have thrown away a fantastic chance here
India have been every bit as good today as England were in the final session last night with the bat. But they've done it all day on both disciplines.
This thread understandably obsessed with England being RedCafe but they never lose at home for a reason.

This rootalitharan experiment reminds me of how Chappell tried to convert Irfan Pathan into an all rounder and destroyed both his batting and bowling. Root is your best batsman, why change his role? Now a days he seems to me as a player who will score 50-60 at max, whereas he should be the one to score big hundreds in first innings.
As weak as Englands spin line up has been, our batting line up is every bit as weak. Anyone arguing against that is kidding themselves. That said, India have become mentality demons - we beat Aus in Aus with fecking Washington and Thakur as some of our strongest batsmen.

I think the nuance everyone seems to be getting their wires crossed out over is that it's not relative merit but absolute merit. Yes, Hartley/Bashir are "second string" choice of performers for England whilst the same is true of India. But it's also true that India can probably pull out second, third string reserves from Ranji who are capable of batting spin at a much higher level than England's second string are capable of bowling spin.
It is both true that Virat, KL, Rishabh are big misses and that India can get about half a dozen replacements who should be able to expected to produce better quality than England's spin. I think, from outside this team, you could pick the likes of Padikkal, Mayank, Pujara, Sai Sudarshan, Vihari etc who will slot in very competently.
That being said, really should've capitalised against a team playing with 10 players and there'll be no excuse for that if the trajectory of the game goes on as right now.
Jaiswal is a joy to watch. Great find.

I have this as England’s worst day under Stokes. Rubbish with the bat and flat in the field.
Probably, I can think of a few good contenders (NZ away, SA home, Aussie second test) that had a complete capitulation day in each from memory but we've been smashed in every session here.
Look at the conditions today, one bowler down, super hot and a good pitch, perfect to bat all day and grind the opposition in the dust. It’s the worst for sure.
Im up for a bite! Is working in India so far!Bazball
Look up the second NZ test mate. We should have won by an innings, decided to 'make a game of it' to save test cricket and got beat
But I hear you.
Ah yeah that was bad but the no call on Wagner for the wide there, still not over that.
Patidar with two of the worst dismissals you'll see
