England in India 2021

Feel sorry for channel 4/all of us who've been wanting live cricket on free to air tv for years.

This series has been a non-event due to England's utter shambles of a showing in the last 3 tests.

These have been easier than any tour build up game that India will have ever played.

3 day test with the red ball is pretty much a 2 day test with the pink ball..
How bad has the pitch been? Is ICC docking India points for preparing an unplayable surface ?

Lawrence looks a good player. Shocking that he was dropped for Bairstow of all people.

The pitch, the pitch. The batting, the batting.

I was looking forward to spending the day watching the Test Match and now, well I'm not sure if I can be bothered putting the TV on now.

My step son opened the batting at our local cricket club with Dan Lawrence.
Talented sportsman( step son that is) shame his dad is such a selfish prick and did little to really support and encourage him to push on. Look what Dan has done

Absolutely brilliant performance.

Need to stop fecking around in the first test. Bring on NZ

The last match would've lasted this long too on a better wicket. England have a lot of work on their hands but at least there'll be no tour to Asia for a few years.

Axar was a real find. Great series win.

I honestly think it's hard to really assess the quality of India when they were playing against such abject opponents for the large part of this.

Paxar abd Ashwin's stats have been padded out by England's batsmen for the most part gifting wickets away. You could argue they won the mental game, which is undeniable - but this is a series that England have contributed to their own downfall as much as anything else.

And for people arguing that it's been a long winter tour - true - but this is the series they've been working towards for nearly 2 years. Since England won the world cup, Test cricket has been the priority. They've failed miserably here.

Wow woke up and the match is already over. Didn't see a ball today so can't comment on England's batting but from some readings of ex players, seems another poor batting performance. They have to improve as this doesn't look on them. Play spin better and find quality spinners.

As for India, axar, sundar, pant were just brilliant. Axar has been a brilliant addition to the test setup, especially at home. Imagine a trio of jadeja/ash/axar when facing india in india. Can't see any team winning a test series in India.

India/NZ WTC would be fun. My worry is NZ would have already played 2 test matches by then so would be more adjusted while our players would be coming from IPL. Can BCCI pull some tricks and schedule a warm up match before the WTC. Anyways looking forward to it.

India have smashed everyone in India for years and just won away in Australia despite a Liverpool length injury list, so that assessment is pretty easy: they're very good.

The series in England should be good though. I reckon that's 50/50.

They're a good side but let's not get carried away. They're not peak Australia or WI: I reckon they're in that second tier, where England were in 05 and 09-11 (there are plenty more examples from other countries too of course).

England hammered them on a flat wicket but as soon as they went to spinning pitches, England were always going to come second.

I just hope England don't retaliate this summer by preparing green seamers and picking a side stuffed with medium-pacers. But they probably will.

I think India's squad depth makes them a really good side to be fair. Yes not to the WI level or Aus peak level but still a very good side who can compete in any type of pitch. If we win the WTC and beat England in England amd SA in SA (which is also later this year) then there will be strong arguments that in modern era this Indian side is the greatest.

That England 2005 team lost 2-0 to Pakistan in the next series and then got trashed 5-0 in Australia and nor did they won anything noteworthy away.

This Indian team is easily the best right now, however obviously don't think any team will match that Aussie team dominance for a long time.

Well I did say very good! Those sides are GOAT tier.

I hope we do prepare green seamers. Everyone else has gotten them for about half a decade so I don't see why we should prepare different pitches for India. Plus Anderson hooping the ball round corners is great to watch.

I actually think India have a chance even then, their bowling attack puts them right in the game and they were pretty unlucky to lose as badly on paper as they did last time.

England's coaching staff tactics should be questioned a lot in the third and fourth test. Pathetic team selection without assessing the pitch.

Expecting nothing more than green carpets for English trip and rightly so. That has been the case for a long time so no reason it should change.

You mean post-Aussies? Yeah possibly. Can't think there's been a stronger one.

India should beat SA comfortably right now tbh. SA are in a bit of a mess, sadly.

India 07-11 was better. We won in England, New Zealand, and West Indies. We were incredibly close to beating South Africa, Bucknor stole our series win in Australia. At home, we beat England and Australia and drew to South Africa.

If we beat England this summer, then this side will eclipse most gone before.

Yeah, agreed. I just think it would be a better contest if we prepared flat, pacey wickets. With Archer, Wood and Stone we've got plenty of gas in the bowling ranks.

I guess each to their own on the enjoyment thing. I love spinning tracks but a lot of English fans disagree!

Certainly hasn’t been green carpets for the last few matches at home. The ball has swung mainly due to the weather more than anything.

Yes nothing matches that aussie dominance. Unless India continue doing what they are doing for another 3-4 years.
Yeah what a team that was mate. Warne, McGrath, M Waugh, Ponting... Amazing to watch. Some of my favourite players there.

Well done India, outplayed and outperformed England in the last 3 games. Hopefully the younger English lads can use the experience gained here to better themselves.
Agree. Not sure how they can apply the experience unless they get exposed to more spin though.

Thing with this current Indian side is they are well equipped to contest on all kind of different surfaces ,it wouldn't come as shock to me if we surprise England in English conditions either.

I think if we turn it into a pace battle we'll get creamed. Wood's record in England is shocking; Archer's injury record (and general inconsistency) is a worry and Stone is unproven. Whereas in English conditions, Woakes Anderson and Broad are absolutely unrivaled in world cricket.

I suspect what we'll see is England forget how great Woakes is at home again and get carried away with pace. Then we'll lose the first test, and remember and go swing and seam heavy the next few tests.

The Duke ball will swing regardless of conditions - if you select the right one.

I don't know if India's pace attack is suited for swinging conditions though. I think they're better off on pitches with pace and bounce - like the Aussies.

My simple and shortened version takeaway from the series.

Players with courage and playing with more of a 50 over version/psyche of the game batted the best and helped win the series. Obviously, Ravichandran and Axar were exemplary. Really shocked why Stokes tried to play the way he did when it's obvious he is best when aggressive. The players with the best test match techniques mostly failed. Virat, Rahane, Pujara, and Root with the exception of the first test all suffered failures by their high standards.
