England in India 2021

We will get 200 and it’ll come down to what England do in the second dig.

Ashwin record of DRS is so bad that I half expected him to knick that

Think with him the mindset is that you are bound to score runs the longer you stay at the wicket. Which is what happened in 2018 in the series against Australia and even this time round in Australia, when he got some starts but was not able to convert any of them into a big score. We have enough stroke makers in the side that we can have Pujara play the way he plays.

Do India have enough batsman in the team though? India are playing Pant at 6 and Sundar at 7 - it's just lucky for India Ashwin has found form as an 8 (which wasn't the case up until this series).

In that case, India would be better off training someone like Sundar to play the role Pujara does. Ask him not to worry about scoring any runs and just block the ball for a 100 balls every innings in the top order, and then get another genuine batsman in the team.

Can see this being the partnership that takes the game away from England.

And... The jinx works perfectly!

Yea because that’s how cricket works. Train someone to block 100 balls..

Annoying that England have got the team wrong again. Would be lovely to have Broad or Stone to call on now. Tbf all the England wickets came from spin so there's help there for the spinners too.

Feel like Sundar is like Curran or Bess for England... A guy who could easily bat in the top 6 as he develops.

It's a lot easier to do than getting someone to score 100 runs.

Batting is hard because you have to score runs and there's an element of risk involved with playing shots. Remove the run scoring requirement and it's a shit load easier.

Pujara is defensive, but that doesn't mean he doesn't keep the scoreboard ticking.

He's bagged 6000 test runs from 85 matches at an average of 46.60, with 18 hundreds and 29 fifties. Don't think Sundar can replicate that by blocking 100 balls.

I think the last session of the day is a good time for Pant to let loose and go after the bowlers. We will score more runs that way because I don't trust Sundar to hold his own through a long patient innings, yet.

“Let’s bring in someone who knows a little bit about cricket”. That was the best unintentional put down ever. Strauss’ face afterwards was hilarious.

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with having a slow scorer in tests. Somebody who can stay in for 1.5 days and score a few is still invaluable. When a game lasts 2 or 3 days it can seem less necessary but for 5 dayers it's vital.

Just woke up, switched on, optimism growing - then Dom Bess bows an absolute pie.

Here we go.

He wasn't as bad earlier in this career. The version of him since 2018 has scored 1800 runs at an average of 36 and SR of 39. He wasn't as tedious earlier in his career and it actually translated into him being a better batsman.

I know better off break bowlers in Derbyshire div 1 that this total dirge. It's pathetic control from a finger spinner.

Maybe give Lawrence a go here? Need to give the seamers a break before the new ball.

Surely spinners can bowl long spells.. Leach and Root should be bowling.
Bess is going at over 4 an over.. has given away50 runs where every run matters.. Not sure what the plan is...

Having said that, he'll probably get a wicket in his next over.

Ok, correct my earlier observation.... this is the partnership that will take the game away from England.

Surely that's the wrong way around? In games that last 5 days you're racing against time to win - so you need to score quickly to give yourself the best chance to bowl the opposition out. That's why on those wickets the likes of Sehwag, Jaysuriya, Hayden become so invaluable because they get you an extra 100 runs while also giving your bowlers more time to bowl at the opposition?

Also, a 2-3 day game will be low scoring so someone who can drop anchor and score a sleep inducing 40 off 150 balls would be pure gold.

England are really slow with their over rates.. 30 overs left in the days play..

Just got to keep this tight and try and get to the new ball with the scores as close to level as possible.

And.... Pant whacks it into the crowd for six.

Not at all. In 5 day matches using time well is a major part of the game and you probably wouldn't get many lasting 4 or 5 days without defensive players keeping an end (which is why they're uncommon now compared to 10 / 20 years ago). You're thinking of a different thing - players who can keep in on difficult wickets, this is more the Boycott type player who frustrates the opposition by keeping an end and putting time pressure on the game.

5 day games are only a race against time because of time management. If you have quick scoring players you either get innings going to 700 runs or it lasting 3 days.

Pant is just so so good , it's embarrassing that he has had to struggle so much to get a place in the team

Stokes looks done. This looks like a shocker of a team selection by England. Pant has saved the match for India. 50 plus lead would be valuable here.
