England in India 2021

Do you apply context to any argument you are going to make in here?

Well I'm just wondering. That pitch offered an incredible amount of assistance to his bowling. Were you not at least a little upset that the ball was moving all over the place? Was it fair to the Australian batsmen?

Serious question. When Broad bowled Australia out for 60. Did you guys complain then? Surely yoi did. For the sake of cricket, I mean.

England scored 390 odd and declared then Australia scored 250 after that.

Some of the shite you're coming out with to defend this pitch is laughable

You bowled them out in one session. 18 overs. Stop being hypocrites. That match lasted 2 and a bit days.

Test match getting over in 2 days is not good. Poor batting or not but this is unacceptable and one must have to look at the pitch ultimately.
Agree with this but all I'm saying is while there yare demons in the pitch, the technique of the batsmen will also have to be questioned. Just look at the Baristow dismissal, he had made up his mind that the ball is going to turn and so he ended up playing for the turn, leaving a huge gap between bat and pad. Most of the dismissals were of similar nature

The pitch and the batting can both be poor. I think most people are onboard with that.

Cricket needs to be more flexible with its rules.. what was the point coming out for 2 overs?

Nope, people seem hell bent of on blaming the pitch when it's quite clear that the batsmen of birth sides lack the technique and the skill to play in such testing conditions. Once again, I'm not saying there's nothing wrong with the pitch, but it's not just the pitch.

Batting has been bang average and I feel gone are the days when even Indian batters were amazing spin players. This lot is not that good. But still both these teams are better than what the scorecard suggests.

Gone are the days when anyone could play spin. Sehwag would have a field day against Leach and Root.

Let's see if Root manages another five-for because reading some of the comments here, it sounds like any Tom, dick or Harry can bowl on the pitch and take wickets.

But both teams managed to score runs in that match...

No-one has looked like doing anything here.

Add to that, Broad is one of the best of all time.

Joe Root got 5-7 on this.

Have a day off.

That should tell you how shit the pitch was. You don't see players playing reverse sweep so often in the test matches, especially so early in the innings. Players tried all sort of shots and also guessed the deliveries because of how the pitch was behaving. Root took 5 wickets, that should tell the whole story.

It just does not work like that ffs

Some absolute clowns in this thread. Shame as the usual posters get some good discussion going.

Yes, absolutely. And I would argue that this pitch is not as bad as the scorecard suggests. It's a difficult track, but you expect at least India to do better than what they did.

It's hilarious.
If it were an isolated incident, I would have thought its about getting a few extra ad breaks in.. IPL forced strategic timeout style.. but this is because cricket still sticks to some rules and doesnt want to change.

Yup, personally abusing the poster and not the post, that does sound like a proper discussion from the usual posters.

I think it has something to do with the fact that, bar a couple of players, no one can actually play against decent spin.

Comedy test match, comedy wicket, but if (when) India manage to win this batting second it's still an embarrassment.

Maybe they should stick to playing normal cricket shots and sweeping less on a pitch with variable bounce?

5 wickets for 8 runs in 6.2 overs for feck sake.

You're right, that alone should be enough to tell you about this pitch

Most of the English media and quite a few posters here spent the whole second test complaining about the pitch in that match which was perfectly decent.

The complaints of that match are valid here.

The players didn't say a word about the pitch post 2nd test to be fair to them.

Curious to see what Root and co say about this one.

And to be honest England really messed up in team selection. That was a good toss to win.

Agree with this.

India proved the pitch was fine last match by how they batted. They were just better than England. Miles better.

That's why I didn't mention the players.

I also feel pink ball could be playing a factor here. Observing a lot of low scoring innings in pink ball matches.

Spinners have taken 28 wickets at an average of 7 before the end of the second session of Day 2.

It's ludicrous to suggest that's ok.

In the first Test, England won the toss elected to bat. At the close of day two, Joe Root’s men were 555-8.

In the third Test, England won the toss and elected to bat. At the close of day two, it will be game over.

Ha!

In the end though India used their home advantage to turn the series around and that's all that matters . People moaning all the time about pitches & umpires are just bad losers

I think it has something to do with the fact that, bar a couple of players, no one can actually play against decent spin.

Enlish players' deficiency against spin is well-known, but there are some of the best spin players out there on both sides today and they've offered nothing against this. And the bowling hasn't even been that great, certainly from England's perspective.

It's a real shame that a match in this series is going to end like this. There is no way Root bowled as well as his figures suggest in the first innings, and I think that's the story of this match.

2 really questionable pitches, home umpires for no real reason, poor coverage from a technical perspective, crowds being able to behave however they want despite Covid having impacted the sport for so long, and absolutely no contest. This has been such a let down of a series, which had offered so much.

Just watched india's batting innings. Honestly that was poor batting. Pant poor shot, ashwin poor shot, axar rash shot, sundar just too defensive and poor technique, bumrah careless sweep shot. That's 5 wickets which had nothing to do with the pitch. We should have batted better.

You dont see the build up that led to those shots.

In isolation looks purely poor batting. It wasnt.

Agree. Out of all the 5 Root wickets, maybe the Pant one spun and turned a lot. All the others were just poor batting or batsmen trying to score off a part timer. Again, I didn't see the whole match, but looking at the Root wickets, it didn't see like Root was turning it square or the pitch was misbehaving massively.

So what I've gathered is a criticism of the pitch is a criticism of the whole of India and everything its about
