England - Euro 2021 Discussion | FA chairman: Southgate to be offered new contract until Euro 2024

Rice and Phillips is a bit odd to me. They both try and pick up the same positions and get confused as to when they should vacate them for each other. From what I've seen it always ends up with one of them looking like a spare wheel. Feel like Grealish should surely have played his way into the team too. I guess there's an argument in favour of Sterling's pace but he's hardly set the world alight recently - Grealish has been the best forward player in an England shirt.

Ah well, maybe it'll work out.

I'm Irish so it's not like I want to see England do well but I will say this.

I have a soft spot for some of your very talented players. Grealish is absolutely brilliant, one of my favourite players to watch right now.

Seeing that lineup from Southgate just makes me think he doesn't deserve to win

How can you not start Grealish?

How are you starting a right back in the left over 2 fully fit left backs?

Even Sterling playing is very very questionable. In fact I'd say it's idiotic in his form.

Also Foden is top draw but if the choice is him or Grealish than right now it should be Grealish every day of the week.

Your team is insane but with Southgate decisions there is a good chance it costs you down the line. And I say if it does Southgate has got to go.
Northern Ireland fan here and the even the lineup annoys me.

That is an absolute shit-show of a train-wreck of a team selection.

This is what happens when you give a crap manager (his club highlights were getting boro relegated) too many options. He ends up thinking he's Regaine Pep.

Henderson over Pickford.

Shaw/Chilwell over Trippier

Grealish over Sterling.

Sterling or Rashford had to play for a runner in behind - and rashford off the bench is a better option so I’m okay with that decision. I think Grealish will come on and show why he should start ahead of Foden/Mount. Bellingham is far better than Phillips but I suppose he has to protect Mings…the trippier one I don’t get. I’m assuming Sancho/Chilwell are injured otherwise them not being on the bench is bizarre too.

Jesus christ is that true? I thought he'd played there way more than that.

Southgate has either got a very cunning plan or he really is just not qualified for this job.
I am being told it is to counter the Croatian wide right player who always cuts inside - I have no idea about this personally.

Midfield and the left side of the defence looks quite a big problem for England. Don't see who else we can pick there though to improve things.

The England team is just very unbalanced. Southgate is a very inexperience coach and will need serious luck again to do anything this tournament. Not surprised we're 4 2 3 1, Southgate can't really coach anything else.

Not sure what's going on with Sancho and Chilwell?

A poster mentioned Grealish has no vision....THIS is why England never do well. Statistically speaking the most creative player, yet gets dropped for England's biggest game in the group. Outside of the statistical realm, Grealish is potentially England's talisman, you can talk about Foden all you wants, but he can't do what Grealish can do. The other day mourinho was talking about how Grealish reminded him of Figo. The confidence, the balance, the agility and the will to consistently take the ball. England finally have that player and have decided not to use him. For what?? Is it because he plays for Villa? So shortsighted and myopic. For me, it's almost disgusting. Does anyone expect him to take Villa to a UCL final? People will be mad about Chilwell, Shaw and Sancho; but this is by far the most disgusting decision. It's not like he wasn't the best player in the friendly games. How good does someone have to be to prove they belong in the first Xi. The truth is, Grealish would start for any other national team, both in Europe and the world. Yet in England, "he doesn't have experience at the top top level". Absolute bs.

fecking Southgate is wasting a big opportunity with this team selection. He can go feck himself.

Traditionally when the Caf doesn’t like a selection we do well. Does that apply to England as well? I bloody hope so as that lineup is mental!

So if we win today, and do something that no other England team had done, will this place actually be happy? Will we get off the managers back?
No....honestly, he's shown the type of person he is. Pure favoritism. It's not about Mount or Foden, but Sterling...come on? If it were simply over Rashford or Sancho( bias against a player not in England, eg Tomori) I would understand, but he's done this to Grealish. That's literally the equivalent of dropping Scholes for me.

It’s 100% for set pieces or, more likely, Southgate probably thinks Trippier is an LB.

reckon the rest can make a better team then the first XI, shocking stuff from Southgate.....

Henderson
White Coady Shaw
James-----------------Chillwell
Henderson Jude
Grealish
Sancho Rashford

Southgate is super risk averse (2 DMs) and bised towards his old favourites (Sterling and Trippier). The guy would bench prime Rio for Matthew Upson if he coached him previously at a tournament.

Just like Pep fecks up difficult games by overthinking, you can rely on Southgate to feck up as well (most of the time). He is just a noob and loser.
