England Discussion

Honest question: How does this continue to happen in the UK?
I can’t remember the last professional athlete in America having their residence broken into because they were “out of town/country”
I’m not trying to make this a US v England question, just genuinely wondering how this seems to happen so often in the HK

I've been wondering this too. You would think all the top players have paid for the best security possible yet it keeps happening. The only reason I can think of is private security guards in the UK are not allowed to carry firearms and I'm guessing they can in America.

Southgate will be conservative because that's his go to approach, and tbf it's served him well.

Our lack of pace at CB means we'll sit deep and he'll play Henderson to double up on mbappe with walker. Shaw won't cross the halfway line.

France will dominate the ball making Bellingham the key for England, if/when he brakes the line England can hurt that French backline. Sterling would've been nailed on but now I expect foden to play with saka. I'd have started rashford as his pace could be key in the counter but Southgate will look to introduce him late - I just hope we're still in the game at that point

I'd fancy France to win at this point as I feel we'll offer them the initiative and if mbappe at any point goes against one of those CBs its a near guaranteed goal or a pen

Hope I'm wrong

It’s going to be very long and hard day for Walker and Shaw.

They’re not especially without Benzema.
The issue for England is not quality or even the manager it’s belief and confidence . Give this group of players to Italy and I would be confident they beat France.
They are better both individually and as a team

I think Southgate might go 352 with Walker in the back three, Trippier at RWB with Henderson at RCM. Basically a more defensive version of his 2018 setup. Kane and Saka up front.

It's going to be a beautiful game. It could very well be a semi-final.
I liked England a lot but I still see France slightly ahead.
It seemed that in the last game when Poland slowed down a bit France crushed them and maybe the same thing will happen to England as the minutes go by.
It will be interesting to see Bellingham-Tchoumeni and Mbappe-Walker.
In France I would say that the "weakness" could be Kounde and Varane.

I still think it is a 55% / 45% for France, a pretty even fight.

England side is talented and a bad match-up for France as we prefer to play against latina possession teams. England will have a better team cohesion, a better defense and probably the control of the midfield as your forwards do help a lot while Mbappe and Giroud do next to nothing to help our midfield.

It should be a nice game. Probably a lot of goals. For the show, I would prefer for France to fight for possession but knowing Deschamps he will most certainly give up possession, playing defense/counter. It is sad but it is our strengh.

No idea why everyone is convinced France will win this. England is a far better collective. Only problem is you're fecked if Mbappe keeps this up.

I think we’ll see Walker in a back three, but this won’t really work unless the full backs actually have license to push forward and get involved.

A front three of Kane plus two more, isolated from the rest of the team, will see us humped.

I can't see him dropping Bellingham for that formation nor Rice.

I'm thinking the side would be this-

.................Kane......Saka.........
.....Bellingham..Rice...Henderson.....
Shaw...Maguire..Stones..Walker...Trippier
........................Pickford...........

I don't think he'll be that negative. That side doesn't even have much pace in it to play on the counter. If it's a 352, I imagine it will be with Rashford up top.

I get the feeling he might just stick with the 433 and have Henderson effectively playing next to Rice rather than as a no.8

Walker Henderson and Saka down the right surely enough legs to crowd out Mbappe

Foden should start although Rashford would have Kounde on toast

If full strength England fail to beat injury stricken France will it go down as the biggest failure in WC history? Surely yes.

Ofcourse not. France might have injuries but those players replacing the injured players would walk in almost any other national team. France has a very good team and so does England. Its hardly a failure for any team to be knocked out by France or by England.

Having 3 players mark one player out of the team? They have abundence of quality in Dembele, Griezmann, Giroud who would get so much time and space If that happens, it would be suicidal

Also Mbappe is capable of meeting all three of them players in one move, there's no way England can stop him unless they literally retreat, defend deep and hope for the best

Nah, biggest failure ever. Just wait for the English media reaction, and they're always right.

Put simply - it boils down to political reasons. Years of left-leaning government effectively shackled law enforcement with human rights laws and putting the criminals before the victims. Now there are also far-left loons in positions of power in many UK police forces. When the more right-leaning government came to power, instead of fixing this mess, they instead decided to massively underfund policing. We are now feeling the effects of this toxic mix.

I'm surprised more top footballers don't live in gated communities to be honest. Can definitely see them becoming a big thing in the UK if you're fortunate enough to be able to afford it.

What a load of crap this is, can I just say

Think the team might stay the same, but with Henderson and Rice more of a double pivot with Bellingham continuing his free-er role to wreak havoc on the break. Henderson having plenty of experience of protecting the RB area from Liverpool could be quite useful in crowding out the ball into Mbappe's feet.

The main issue last night was the inability to do anything with the ball in the first 35 minutes, but I don't see that being so much of a concern for Southgate unless France take the lead.

Going to be a fascinating contest, can't wait.

Walker is being built up as the saviour to stopping Mbappe, but it looks to me like he has lost a yard or two.

Yeah it will require a team effort to try and keep Mbappe quiet. Crazy thing is Matty Cash played well against him but he still came up with moments of quality to perform well.

Yeah, saw Sarr yesterday causing him plenty of problems in the 1st half and didn't even manage to outpace the Senegalese left-back at one point.

I think at times, City have been perfectly comfortable in leaving Walker 1v1. I don't think you can do that now. I kind of think Southgate will bring in Trippier and go with a back 3.

Given how easily Senegal controlled the bulk of the ball and the game until the first goal yesterday I can't see anything other than a France win.

Senegal got through once or twice with a couple of decent passes and a little injection of pace in behind. Don't think England have enough pace in midfield or the back 4 to keep France out.

If Kounde is at right back again, there might be a chance for them to get at him if they can get overloads on the left flank.

Senegal controlled the ball? I think you watched a different game.

Senegal got through a couple times, you expect a team to make chances. I guess you havent been watching the other games?

Right, so Shaw, Walker, Jude are slow?

It happens everywhere.
Theo Hernandez was robbed in Italy. There was an attempted robbery at Carvajal's home recently. Aubameyang was robbed and beaten in Catalonia recently.

As for America, a quick google search shows that Draymond Green's home was burglarized just this year. Vince Carter's home was burglarized, with his family in it, a few months later.

Sorry when did Senegal control the ball? Even when they were the better side they had less than 35% possession.

Don't talk down Walker too much I'll be disappointed when he shuts down Mbappé on Saturday like he's always done. He's his kryptonite.

If Sir Gareth decides to switch his tactics and play a back 5 then it's all over for England. If he trusts his attack then England has a chance. Either way, I think whoever wins this game goes on to win the tournament...
