Elon Musk's epic bacon adventures

What contribution has he made to space exploration? As yet his rockets haven’t been used for any scientific missions as far as I am aware?
A bunch of launches have carried scientific payloads, there's a list on wiki.

Who is childish here? It's only counterproductive because there is no way that people like Musk and Bezos will actually discuss the remote possibility of reforming the tax system.
They are entitled to oppose it but so what? Reform it. We don't need their permission! Just do it in sensible ways.

The answer to this question was addressed in my previous post. The fact that Musk was financially backed by the government seems to undercut the essence of the question, since the government has already allocated capital that allowed Tesla, SpaceX, and Solar City to exist in the first place. Therefore Musk's "success" and capitalist prowess is actually interwoven with the Government's ability to support business and innovation.
God knows how many US tech companies got their start because of direct or indirect government investment. Which I think is a good thing BTW, without it silicon Valley would still be a field full of orange trees. I'm just not sure what point people are trying to make here. Ultimately it is evident that the govt did not build these businesses or made any of the investment decisions that grew them although it may have helped fund them or provide a market for them at the start.

It seems you're proving my point. The government has invested heavily in private companies and Silicon Valley wouldn't be what it is today without taxpayer investment in private industry over the years. These companies would probably not exist without such help, so what you have is a scenario where the taxpayer is helping to start companies, the tax payer is then becoming a consumer of the products they build on the other end, thereby supporting the companies from both ends. The people running these companies therefore have little grounds to moan when they are being asked to pay their fair share in taxes to give back to the system that provided them with the funds and infrastructure to exist in the first place.

I don't disagree with you that they need to pay more taxes, I just disagree with your proposed mechanism.

This looks so shitty. It's an incredibly dumb idea, and the fact that it actually exists in even an undersized format is mad.

Edit: RedCafe doesn't like Reddit I guess.

Paste the following into your browser, the Reddit feck-censorship messes with the link.

Must be a deepfake, those tunnels solve traffic!

The idea isn't that bad , I can see it working if it actually does substantially reduce the cost of tunneling. But having no emergency exits or ventilation is bad, add those and it'll be fine.

I mean I guess? What you're basically saying here is "make it a proper tunnel and it'll be fine". He's just re-invented tunnels, except worse, and also trying to combine it with public transport, except worse. It's just a worse underground in every way.

I read about it and the idea is to cheapen the production so you could make it more prevalent, tunneling is very expensive so if they do succeed in doing so then its good for public transport, if they don't and are just bluffing to get public contracts then yeah its just shitier public transport.

The boring company is trying to make building tunnels cheaper, the stuff that gets in the headlines is there just to get in the headlines but isn't where the money will be if there's any to be made. Their machines are definitely very quick (1 mile per week) at tunneling, but not sure about cost.

Focusing on the Hyperloop stuff seems like a mistake then, if there is some real, viable technology behind it as you say. I guess we'll see what happens, hopefully there's a tangible benefit to the world here.

e - original tweet sadly deleted. it was a tesla owner using a gas flame to defrost his car's sleek door handle which is flush with the door.

The idea is bound to flop but this particular video itself is just a few seconds delay before a drop off station it seems.
A bit of delay is kind of what causes congestion though right? Especially in a 1 lane road.

Also, what happens in case of fire, or an emergency. Seems like a bit of a hazard this.

Not denying it is a stupid idea or the issues you listed are not a problem. Just that that particular video being evidence of some massive congestion in the tunnels already is an exaggeration.

It seems a bit mean to be critical of a guy who offered to help Tonga with their Internet.
Then realised they could not do it. Classic Elon!

At risk to be seen defending the cnut, do you think Musk has anything to do on how the hiring and organizing the factory goes? he has more high level cnutish things to do, like tweeting

And yeah, there is a big racist around Tesla and who hired a racist might be Musk...so indirectly is a racist most likely if you trust a racist running the show. But I doubt that he bothers on this mundane tasks

His rockets are currently the only way to take astronauts to and from the international space station from US soil.
For the past 10 years the dragon cargo spacecraft has been taking essential food, fuel, water, supplies and scientific payloads to the ISS. More importantly it is able to return science experiments back to Earth.
Musk might not be on your Xmas card list, but SpaceX isn't just Musk and they have done incredible things.
