Elon Musk | Owner of X and complete loser

One thing I have noticed on the caf (mainly for n my phone) is that the tweets take ages to load so I have to click on them read it and then close the new window that has opened.
A minor irritation but it’s definitely different to how it used to be.
I don’t have a twitter account myself.

Same here. I just don’t bother most of the time. I suspect it’s to drive people to Twitter, but I never stay, and rarely click now, so it’s pretty self defeating if it’s actioned on their end.

Eh? Isn't he about to cross a legal minefield with this one? I know its not the first time he's been so brazen, but I'd imagine the App store would have grounds to remove X altogether.

why its public content

I think it means that if you block someone, they can still see your tweets.

it's basically making blocks the same as mute.
my account is decently anonymous but i've made it private after my employer started firing people over their stance on israel, so this won't change much for me.

Wow, which sector are you working?

So not forcing people who’ve blocked Musk to read his tweets? What’s the motivation to make this change then?
It allows him to see tweets of people that blocked him in a more convenient way, I guess, but not everything needs a pathetic motivation.

And Brazil showed the way
He has been folding to Turkey and India at every possibility. I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason he did that stupid posturing with Brazil was because he considers their government "woke".

Whatever means woke, specially with Lula. But yes, I know what you mean

If they start to shutting him down, he will reel back all the time. He doesn't criticize China for straight ban twitter. But he has no problem to be quite positive about the regime. I wonder why

Also, is not even about money. If they shut down his favourite toy, what he will do? buy bluesky?

this seems like an inconsequential change, as those Xs could be seen by a blocked user by simply logging out anyway.

You can’t see a persons tweets in order if you’re logged out. It’ll show stuff from 2018 or whatever first. Probably the most engaged with tweets I assume.

They are called Xs now.

You should start calling them that to remind yourself what a fecking stupid platform it has become.

Irony being that Elon has no doubt changed the block function so he can still see his Xs tweets.

The only thing I can think of is that he’s concerned about the dwindling “views” metrics and he’s looking for ways to boost that in a non-artificial way which is important for advert revenue.

If Elon's bored of logging onto one of his alternate accounts to read posts he should just get another device for his alert-egos. However he's presumably got that so I guess it's designed to simplify life for the troll army and the bots.

I blocked Musk pretty much the first time I saw one of his tweets in my "for you" timeline - which may be why mine has stayed remarkably healthy. If this means I have to block a new wave of junk posts then I will give up visiting, so I guess it'll have been a success.

If Elon reappears in my timeline I'll be deleting the account.

I'm still not impressed by the alternate platforms though - which is irritating.

Threads look like absolute garbage.

BlueSky decent, but a bit sparse.

It's funny, I think even the junk adverts are dwindling - or maybe there are so many that my brain has switched them off. The drop-shippers are getting followed around by community notes which I suspect will be the next feature that Elon wants switched off.

I'll be pretty annoyed if Tweets from people I have blocked start showing up on my feed.

That’s not how it’s working. It’s that people you’ve blocked can still see what you tweet.

Which is kind of ok in terms of you being able to tweet shit that gets people angry but have blocked them because they’re gonads.

Less ok if you’ve blocked someone because they follow you around on Twitter objecting to everything you say, and can retweet you or mention you with you having zero visibility on them doing so.

Block used to be ‘I don’t want this person having any access to me’. It’s now ‘I don’t want to see content from that person’. Which is less than half a job.

I get that it takes years to get the eco-system back and that unless you're actively following/reading/liking posts and posters nothing is tuned the way you want and favourite posters may not be there.

Very much a chicken/egg thing, I admit. It took years for my timeline mix of United, women's football, data presentation specialists, health statistician, anti-tory, pro cat, etc etc to run things for me on twitter.

But I do find the way threads organises annoying - in much the same way I never ceased to be annoyed by Instagram.

I may give BlueSky another shot though.

Is there any hope that the federverse and activitypub will be the solution to this? It could be the death of Twitter if it works right.

Threads has federated which is a good starting point. Hopefully Bluesky and others will follow.

Twitter is now Musk's personal play thing that he just allows others to post on and use.

which is really fecking annoying because I genuinely miss Twitter because for all its faults, before he took it over, it was unrivalled for current news and interesting opinions. As @jojojo said above I’d also curated a timeline I enjoyed reading with some really great people who I really do miss following now.

Yep. It's that thing about making it too easy for bots, trolls and stalkers to retweet and run their own version of the discussion around your post.

Sometimes that becomes a blue tick (sometimes a blue tick bot) led twitter pile-on to the original poster - that gets promoted algorithmically way above the original discussion. Before it actually took a (small) amount of effort - like taking a screen capture of the original post - that at least gave it a bit of resilience to direct bot retweeting.

But then now Elon has fixed the problem with fake accounts and bots I'm sure that won't be possible.

Bizarre romance between authoritarian aspects of CCP and weird right wingers has been going on since 2000s. It's not really that unusual, especially considering that he's financially dependent on them.
