Elon Musk | Doer of things on X and sad little man

he's been pro-trump for years, that's what I was replying to

Has he? I'm under the impression that he publicly flip-flopped around midterm elections, but I might be remembering it incorrectly.

On a personal level he has obviously be a Trump supporter for a long while although maybe less overt.

On a professional level up until this year he was donating to both Republican and Democrat candidates. This shouldn’t be mistaken for who he supports or would vote for, it’s not like some blue collar worker donating $250 to the candidate they support. It’s way more transactional than that, he’s giving money to whoever he thinks will win and buying favours from people who can influence policy that effects his businesses.

so when was he last pro-Biden/Harris/dems? I don't remember although I'm sure he plays both sides to suit his business interests, for me he's always been right-wing in his views, though

Nah, he's actually a traditional leftist. It's just that the American left has become so extreme that he now aligns more with the republicans.

I don’t even think an extreme left exists in mainstream American politics, personally

Extreme how?

Their definition of extreme left seems to be anyone left of Romney. Then they wonder why the wealthy run everything.

With Elon supporting fascism this year have any of you who don’t own a Tesla decided you aren’t getting one in the future?

Situations like this are so weird. Like ignoring how off the entire thing is, would it actually have cost him that much more to hire a proper vehicle or two to take these people around in?

Like that just screams being nasty for the sake of being nasty.

To me this is pretty much how every poorly managed outsourcing works. Dumb, accountable sponsor overpays greedy, lazy, unaccountable middle men that underpay poor, unprepared, unmotivated people that will actually do the work, just to get a bigger pay cut.

Never will. Just waiting for the Japanese to fully catch up. I am a Mazda guy. Will stick with that or perhaps Lexus EV sometime in the future.

In terms of reliability, I trust the Japanese big 3 over Tesla any day.

I would never touch one and I'm really looking forward to buying my first EV soon. I'd rather drive a Dacia Spring than a Tesla.

I'm holding out for Jaguar's all electric range in 2026.

I am convinced that if Harris wins, he is going to post some cringey meme along the lines of "Just as we planned, Mrs. President."

Christ, he's a twat.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that that's according to Musk himself, because of course it is.

Really?

The hate towards the Democrats seemed to start in 2021 when Biden left Elon out of his EV summit because of Elon not allowing his workforce to unionise.....

https://edition.cnn.com/2021/08/05/business/tesla-snub-white-house-event/index.html

In 2022, he said he voted Republican for the first time...

yeah, I don't believe what Elon says about it all, but let me explain where I was coming from

you're absolutely right I was wrong to say he was pro-trump for years, in that clearly, he wasn't there, but in my view he's always been right leaning, like always

he's playing both sides for his business's as I'm sure everyone agrees, but I just don't believe this story he tells that he's historically left leaning and was pro-democrat.. I'm calling horseshit on that, it's just a convenient thing to say now that he's inevitably to gone to the extreme right, but the truth is he occasionally sucked off some democrats because it served his own interests at the time, not that he was some lefty liberal in college who has been scared by the dems going too far left

I mean what kind of a story to tell is that anyway? The side I liked went too far left so I've had to become a far-right, anti-democratic wank-stain instead? It's horseshit.

I'm left wing, and if the dems/labour go too far left I'm never gonna jump ship for the Tories or GOP am I? If they go too far left I'd want to support a centrist party, not some wanna-be dictator with soup for brains. You gotta be proper right-wing to do that.

I had already long decided that when I bought my VW ID 4 last year, Tesla can get stuffed.

I did. Plus it's just a badly built car of course. My best mate and brother in law both have one (3 and Y), and bar the fun gimmicks, it's just not very good.

I was looking for an EV two years ago and yes he certainly played a part in deterring me. That and the fact they're hot garbage. This is before he went full fascist too.

It’s absolutely out of the question for me, because of Musk. Not an option.

Glad im not the only one. There aren’t too many good EV options in the US but I’ve looked into Polestar and they seem to have a decent car without breaking the bank.

I doubt he'd have known whether the van had seatbelts or not, but his organisation should.

We can only really go off what he has said and he said he always voted Democratic until recently.

No one said he was a "lefty liberal in college".

He certainly was far more environmentally minded, which fit with what Tesla were trying to achieve with their cars and solar projects. He said in 2018 that "“climate change is the biggest threat that humanity faces this century"....
https://www.rollingstone.com/cultur...n-is-an-antidote-to-climate-pessimism-196804/
He even encouraged a carbon tax...
https://www.cnbc.com/2021/02/12/elon-musk-reducing-greenhouse-gas-emissions-with-a-carbon-tax.html

Now, he is all in with the party that denies climate change and is pro fossil fuels.

As i mentioned before, one of the things that seemed to turn him away from Democrats was being snubbed from Bidens EV summit.
He was also fighting with the California government during COVID as they shut down non essential businesses - his Tesla plant was considered non essential.

People like Musk are not used to being told what to do. He then seemed to go down the right wing rabbit hole of vaccine scepticism and became this "free speech" warrior, which he started getting more and more attention for. We know that the more controversial things you say, the more attention you get. The attention becomes so addictive to him that he buys twitter.

Two years later he is donating to Trump in a huge way with a view to be working within his government. We can only imagine the financial benefits that would bring to him.

Democrats wouldn't let that happen. Can you imagine a Democrat President allowing Musk to run a "Department of Government Efficiency" ? Musk sees an empty vessel in Trump and wishes to exploit it.

I'd rather shit in my hands and clap than buy a Tesla. I think a Kia or Hyundai hybrid is my next buy.

I own one. The price point can't be beat and Tesla have almost a monopoly on charging in the US.

I see many people with bumper stickers on their Tesla's like this now....

Musk PAC tells Philadelphia judge the $1 million sweepstakes winners are not chosen by chance

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A lawyer for Elon Musk ‘s political action committee told a judge in Philadelphia on Monday that so-called “winners” of his $1 million-a-day voter sweepstakes in swing states are not chosen by chance but are instead chosen to be paid “spokespeople” for the group.

GOP lawyer Chris Gober also said that the recipients Monday and Tuesday will come from Arizona and Michigan, respectively, and therefore will not affect the Pennsylvania election. He said the recipients are chosen based on their personal stories and sign a contract with the political organization, America PAC.

“The $1 million recipients are not chosen by chance,” Gober said Monday. “We know exactly who will be announced as the $1 million recipient today and tomorrow.”

Musk did not attend the hearing, held on the day before the presidential election. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner took the witness stand Monday and called the sweepstakes a scam as he asked the judge to shut it down.
He basically had to admit this is not a "lottery" to get around the lawsuit claiming they are running an illegal lottery in State court. It sounds like he's admitting its a scam imo.

My next car will be a full EV, but very unlikely to be a Tesla largely due to Musk.

The complication with me though is that I'm already in the Tesla eco-system as I have a Powerwall running my house (bought before Elon lost it completely, though I guess some signs have always been there), and rumour has it that Tesla might be about to open their cars up for V2H/V2G for Powerwall users, which would be incredible. Still not sure I'd actually get one, but if a used one had V2H ability then maybe, especially since they are quite cheap on the used market.

Is that not worse?
I am not a lawyer but yeah you would think while he gets out of being accused of running an illegal lottery in the state. Admitting that its not a lottery and its some type of I don't know ad campaign for supporters? Could also be sketchy. But that would be a different lawsuit not a "illegal lottery" suit.

So Musk adds self confessed swindler and scammer to his CV.

Vermin.

kinda scary the way it's all heading when you lay it all out like that

I really really hope Trump doesn't win

You lot don't understand anything. He got everything he needed from the liberal left when selling his Teslas. His next goal was selling pick up trucks and for that he needed to convince the red necks to pay 100k for the cybertruck. That is why he shifted his political public stance. Mission accomplished by the most visionary entrepreneur that the world had seen

Only problem is that the rednecks think electric vehicles are demonic.
