It's so funny that after all these terrible decisions, he still saved by far the worst one for last. Pissing off the advertisers, firing 80% of the staff causing the site to break in new ways every weak, bringing back all the worst people on the right - that's all bad. But then he decided to change from one of the most recognizable names in the tech world, with one of the most recognizable logos. A name that has such reach that it's spawned genuine words from it such as "a tweet" and "to tweet". Something basically any company which isn't Google can only ever dream of.
But that's still not the worst part. The worst part is X. Not only does it say nothing about the business, it's near universally connected to online pornography. It's also completely useless for visibility and search results, being a letter of the alphabet.

I am not as read up as others but I think they struggled with how to make it more profitable, and with general direction

I've been wondering about that myself, with regards to the sign. It's such an easy one, large obnoxious flashing sign is put up and it's annoying people there. You'd always think it's a dick move, no matter who put it up. As it's Musk though they're compelled to defend it. One guy said no residentials are in sight of it so this makes it ok, some people used verifiable evidence to show he was wrong, and he just sarcastically segued into rhetoric about how it's dumb to complain about the sign with all the homeless and dirty streets there are. I wonder if they're self aware and do it for attention, or if they're genuinely oblivious to any flaws and think his decisions are always correct.
