Eliaquim Mangala

With Pellegrini, the squad they have and the money they will spend I think it's only a matter if time til the bastards win the CL. Thy have an amazing team.

Definitely a Luiz type transfer. Ludicrously talented but definitely flaws that need to be ironed out. High risk, high reward.

Someone at Porto forum rightfully reminded us Pellegrini might be hand-picking them because he saw them first hand last year when managing Magala. We did have an impressive performance in the first leg.

With the imminent signing of Mangala, surely that will mean Lescott will be completely expendable and the next out of the door?

My more curious question however, is how the flying feck are City meeting (going to meet) the homegrown quota?

Can you really see that being enforced?

Isnt it been said that the EU will not back it, i.e. illegal working rights etc...

UEFA are more concerned about FFP by the looks of it - which is a great thing to prevent clubs goin out of business & buyin success with rich investors. Has someone actually mentioned to Platini about PSG & Monaco.

His son is the lawyer for the lads who own PSG & his role is investments - i.e. helping to fiddle the books for FFP.

"Platini rejects any suggestion that Burrda hiring his son, in early 2012, means he is or was compromised. "My son is CEO of Burrda, it's a company of Qatar, they have many investments. He was a lawyer for PSG [until 2008], then he was with Lagardère [the French media company], then Burrda came to pick him, because he is good. It was totally not related to anything I have done. It has nothing to do with me, and there is no conflict."

There's plenty more dirt on Platini - like him allegedly changin his world cup vote after dining with a Qatari Prince a week before the vote!

How come we can't find a half decent coach?

Helton (Arruda is his last name :)) has been a great servant. He has been way better than half-decent. Like others, this season he's worsened dramatically, and is probably nearing the end of his time here. I'm confident his back-up can take the place, he's been excellent every time we try him.

 feckin knew it

I've only seen him in the CL and he makes a mistake that costs a goal in about every game. He's been awful there at least. Useless at coming out for high balls but still keeps on doing it anyways.

One man cant make a team - i dont mean to sound patronising to you saying that either

City havent been goin for duds in quite a well, so you can pretty much guarantee they think said players will improve their team - which are already shit-hot at the moment. I hope they turn out to be duds, but i'd rather us have a few players in, wishing they wont be duds.

Just heard on Talksport, some Scots transfer/ press expert said City might find it hard to get the double-deal done in time this window - they want the price lowered for FFP reasons. They're £50m over transfer spending budget to keep in line with UEFA & they spend £600k per day in wages too. They dont give a shit really - they'll wangle some deal from the middle-east (co-owners most likely) thats gonna make up the difference & more. Much like their stadium rights deal & the rest..

Of course one man doesn't make a team, but they have several players who are considered really good and worth of high amounts of money not just one player. And his performances in the champions league haven't been better than his peers in defence, he's one of the reasons they havent done well. So you tell me how it works that he's a £30 million player. When you are playing well in a team playing well and being successful thats one thing but when you are then very ordinary in a team performing poorly that also needs to be taken into account. If he's not standing out next to Maicon at CB, then why is this guy worth such a huge amount of money? Or is it that Maicon is also worth £30 million and its a £60 million CB partnership thats performing like a £6 million one? It doesn't make any sense.

It would be completely different if the player carried his league form into the champions league and proved that at that level he's an excellent player but he's not doing that so it looks a huge gamble.

Arguably he's been seen in the airport with the rest of the team (we're flying to Madeira, playing there tomorrow). Either the deal was aborted, or they will loan him to us until the end of the season.

Good stuff. Off to bluemoon then.

Fair points made there man, but Pellegrini is no mug either. Look at what he's brought in already?! All turned out to be excellent buys man!

The Times reporting that one of our scouts was at his last game. Are we really going to take on City for his signature?

I'd want us to avoid at what Porto are quoting for him. We have promising young centre backs, I'd rather see an experienced centre back in his mid 20's arrive at a fairly reasonable price, like Benatia for instance.

This transfer will bring more humiliation for moyes...If city and champions league football is on offer then we havent a hope

A transfer can bring humiliation? What the hell is hapenning to the caf

Agreed - we need a top class CB to help bring along the youngsters. Are we sure Mangala isnt top class though?

Porto always seem to get great fees for their players
And they are always excellent at reinvesting that money back into the team with shrewd signings. Recent signings like Jackson Martinez as Falcao's replacement and Hector Herrera as Moutinho's are living proof of that.

Don't Porto, like Benfica, sign a lot of players from South America and there are several failures for every success?

I remember hearing that from a few family members in Portugal but even if true, they do well.

I'd be lying if I said I've seen much of him. I just think for the healthier transition of our defence over the coming years, we should be targeting an experienced centre back with leadership qualities and European pedigree. Pretty much a like-for-like successor to Vidic with better distribution and technical ability.

I imagine so, every transfer can't be a success, but for the money they receive for star players and then plow back into the team they do very well to maintain their standing in the Portuguese league and Europe. I suppose you could liken it to Arsenal when they sold van Persie, Adebayor, Nasri, etc.

You could accuse them of lacking ambition, but it's very impressive economically.

I thought it was a blip.

The caf will be RAWK Mk2 before long if we don't improve on the pitch
If you're embarrassed by transfers then you suck at life

Agree with all of the above, I was just making the point that a minority of the Caf being embarrassed by transfers is not a new thing.

Another ex Standard player. We sure we want him?

Should be stressed that it's the last home defeat for the league. Pfff. At least I hope the manager is fired after this. It looks the players are doing it on purpose. This is the weakest Porto I can remember and I'm 33 years old.

Can someone more knowledgeable than me clarify one thing pls ?

How is this guy in comparison to the other 4 young French defenders : Varane, Laporte, Zouma, Umtiti.

Signing this guy would be more impressive than signing Mata imo. Man City almost had this signing nailed, if we were able to snatch him from their grasp...

That's assuming we rate him enough and are willing to pay a ridiculous fee.
