Eidur Gudjohnsen

He's overweight and past it from the little I've seen of him. I think he'll struggle at PL level.

He did ok at Spurs though and that was less than a year ago, maybe get him in teh gym and playing, he may still have something to offer.

Actually he's not overweight. He's trimmed and slim. This excuse Pulis uses is bullshit. Do you really think the fitness coaches at Stoke can't get a man fit in 4 months? Do you really think that?

I'm sure that they can. I doubt they can do much about that man eating fourteen big macs every night though. And I hadn't heard Pulis say that, it's just what I think from having seen him.

Do you know or have contact with him?

Well, I work each week in a PL show, sort of like MotD, with a host and pundits and what not who go over these sort of things. He was suppose to have live interview with us on Wednesday but he'll talk instead on Sunday when he think it will all be clear and cut.

It's fairly easy to have contact with him because our stagehand and overall runner of our station is best friends with his mother.

That's the beauty of Iceland and it being so small. This summer I worked with Hermann Hreidarsson's wife during the WC and heard a lot of personal gossip about players in the league.

I'm not sure. Two of our guys went to England recently and interview some folks, Pulis, Mancini, and of course our Icelandic boys, and they were surprised how fit he was. Icelandic media has always been quick to jump on Eiður's back when he's out of shape but no one is saying that now. All they are saying is to get the hell out of Stoke.

Tony Pulis has a thing with Icelanders. He had loads at Stoke, bought a few of them as well but never played any apart from one.

Was Dave Kitson never fit as well last season? He payed over 5m for him and barely used him. I think he's just got an odd personality. Two of the men in our set last show both have had contact with Pulis. One was his player and the other was the manager before him at Stoke. They both say he's a very odd man.

Icelandic people used to own Stoke, hence a lot of Icelandic players playing there.

He seems to be doing well at Stoke. Eidur doesn't deserve a starting place.

Everton and Fulham could be likely destinations - they are both after a centre forward. His experience and ability to play either upfront or in midfield make him an attractive proposition.

Some of them still own like 27%. But that didn't stop Pulis from keeping buying them and using them.

He got asked this question about Icelanders and his answer was "If Messi was Icelandic I'd play him".

Tony Pulis "has a thing with Icelanders"?

As far as racism goes, that's pretty fecking niche.

What's next? Andorran hate crimes?

Do you know how many has bought? Do you remember many of them playing for Stoke very much?

I'm talking about the Championship days. It makes sense to buy Icelanders there. They work hard, are physically adapt and don't complain. They're also much cheaper then the locals.

I've got two stories about him abusing an Icelandic player which made him leave. A player the Noggies are familiar with. The abuse was just ridiculous. He's got a really bad rep here because a lot of players have played there and so the stories get around here quite easily.

Fair enough. That doesn't tally with what I've seen but perhaps I'm wrong.

Perhaps they just weren't very good. Most Icelandic footballers aren't, as I'm sure you'll agree. At least not at PL level. As was said above, they used to be owned by an Icelandic person/company so I'm not surprised a few have passed through the doors.

Dave Kitson has a massive attitude problem, has fallen out with Pulis and has looked utterly shite since joining, despite getting chances. It doesn't really matter how much he cost is if he doesn't do it on the pitch, which he hasn't for Stoke.

Odd man he might be, but I doubt he's racist against Icelandic players or people. He's probably just come to the conclusion - as Harry Redknapp did without being called a racist - that Gudjohnsen didn't offer him enough to justify playing him, or didn't fit in with the way he wanted to play. Tuncay is in a similar position as regards selection. Gudjohnsen was a cracking player in his prime - and may still be - but IMHO his best days are well behind him now.

You hate Iceland because of shit food or just because? Because you live in England you know. Birthplace of shit food.

:lol::lol::lol:

It's called wordplay ;)

Actually at the Championship level he was playing at most of them were good enough. I didn't say he was racist towards Icelandic people. I mean, maybe his dad was a soldier in the Cod War but that's very farfetched. I just said he had a thing with them. A word I used because I can't pinpoint it.

Fine they weren't good enough, why did he keep buying them?

And is it possible it's Pulis who's got an attitude problem? How come hard working lads with their heads screwed on tight, one of them a CL, La Liga and PL winner, all have similar things to say about Pulis? How many players, not just Icelandic, have left Stoke very annoyed?

That bold bit is the oddest thing. Everyone knows how Stoke play. Pulis know's it the best. Why the hell did he spend money on those players? Why has he been on the bench 10 matches in a row and not been used once? What's the point. There's no way he'll get match fit without being used. That's impossible.

Btw. he categorally denies playing that football we all see. He said in an interview with us that he had technically gifted players occupying the pitch instead of Tuncay. Walters and Fuller and such.

Sure his best is behind him but I can't believe anyone saying that Tuncay or Eidur should be behind Jonathan Walters in the pecking order.

I've heard from Pulis himself, his reason ands thoughts on the matter, and I've hear from dozen of people saying the other side. I'm convinced Pulis isn't a very nice man to work with. Good reaction from him to Hughes after the Fulham game...

How can you argue with Pulis when you can say he's been one of the best managers in the league last few years. Tuncay and Gudjonsen haven't fit in how he hoped.

You hate Iceland because of shit food or just because? Because you live in England you know. Birthplace of shit food.

I was actually reffering to the very shit chain of frozen food shops we have over here! Probably didnt make it clear enough, no offence intended!

I wouldn't take it as offence really because you were spot on. I just thought it was funny because with you being from England and all so I just took it as a bit of banter.

So I ask like before, where was he going to fit them in? He knew very much how they played and I'm sure both of them can do a better job than Jonathan Walters. I'm sure of that. It's more than just fitting in or he wouldn't have bought them. Eiður hasn't even played 90 minutes, far from it, and Tuncay has started twice.

Kenwyne Jones has 4 goals in 18 games, Walters 3 in 18 and Fuller has 3 in 17 (half of those game as a sub). You really think he can't do a little better up front?

So he was on our show just now as a pundit. Gave his view on today's and yesterday's games and so forth. He was asked if he regrets not going to a club when offered and he replied "Clearly Manchester United.". He said he didn't regret going to Barca, he enjoyed playing for them, training there and winning the titles but he regretted not playing for them.

The only real regret though was joining Stoke. That was a huge mistake he said. Simply because of their football philosophy. They don't play players that aren't on the giving or receiving end of long balls and have no intention of changing that.

He was also Yaya's roommate at his time there so he had a few comments on him. Said that the guy was a machine and wants he got going you could barely stop him. One of the best buys into the PL.
Said that the toughest defender he played against was Sol Campbell. "The thought of getting a 120kg bull barging into you every time you got the ball was a bit nerving".
The best defender he played with was Pique that season where he won the CL.

He said he doesn't know where he'll play. He'd like to go back to England but not in the lower leagues and that his PL are most likely over so he didn't expect to go back.

He also said that he reckons that Moyes will take over Ferguson. Didn't go much into specifics why he thought so. I'm guessing their similar character traits on man management and team handling is probably the obvious reason.

Professional footballers definitely have a different view on football than us mere spectators. Always refreshing hearing from a player that can speak, is honest when answering and can offer that little bit of insight that's only speculations on our part if they even entered our minds.

I remember watching him on that show a little while ago talking about his time at Stoke. He had a memorable line about dealing with Pulis which gave a bit of insight into the man - something like "When I was deciding whether to join them, he took me aside and told me that I would be his main man at Stoke. Then after I signed, he didn't speak to me again"

I've never taken to him, but even when it happened the move to Stoke just felt so wrong for him.

A very good player in his day, technically very sound with a decent eye for goal. Not the quickest in the world but feck it he's a Scandinavian and I like them.

Hahaha.

He's not Scandinavian though.

Scandinavia = Denmark, Norway and Sweden.

True. I'd like it to be the other way though. Iceland and Finland are so often excluded. People also know what Scandinavia is but don't always pick up on 'Nordic countries'. Northern Europe also doesn't have the same ring to it. Might also confuse RISK players calling it that.

Was a great player. I'd be willing to toss him at the level of Larrson. Andy player to have at his peak but never world class. I'm surprised an MLSclub isn't after him.

In Seattle trialing with MLS side Seattle Sounders. He'd make a great addition to the league. He was always professional and seldom injured.

Makes sense for him that move. Hopefully he'll get fit soon and make himself useful for Iceland. Saw him last time play against Portugal at home where he was our best player. One of the few players in our nation that can hold the ball and pass it sensibly.

Seattle have good support don't they?

Nice little 'interview' up there Snow. I've always liked the guy, even though he was a Chelsea player for a long time. No fuss about him. He'd probably be better for Liverpool than Carroll was.

I'm a big admirer of what Iceland is capable of on the football field as well, it's amazing how many good players you can produce out of a population of 320k. If Norway could match those stats we'd have a world class national team, but we're actually just marginally better than Iceland. Must be the hákarl based diet I'm convinced all Icelanders are following.

Larsson was a level above Gudjohnsen but he was still a striker I loved watching. I seen him in the nou camp a few years ago and his movement off the ball was brilliant, always on the shoulder of the last man and at the last second before the ball came in he would suddenly have two yards free space.

He deserves a nice final pay cheque in the states

Top player he was, a couple of years ago he was at OT sat directly in front of me and a mate I'd taken to the game, he was with a load of p*ssed up Icelandics who'd even managed to smuggle some ales to their seats.

had a good chat, got a photo, seemed a really decent feller.

Any idea if he's a United fan?
