EFL Cup Quarter Finals | 18/12/24 - 19/12/24

That whole passage of play was a bit mad.

What was your man at, passing the ball to the lad on the deck?

Then the ref lets play go on with Southampton nearly losing the ball. When play stops he books the Liverpool player for the original challenge. Where was the advantage in that, ref?

How the actual feck was that not a red card?

Need a replay of that. Ref waives off what looked like a foul on the last Southampton man just outside the box.

EDIT: That's a foul and should have been a red for Liverpool

He was last man, behind him with his arm stretched across his neck and shoulders and brought him down.

Yeah Quansah should've been off there. I don't think the referee can see the arm he has over the chest. If he see's that then Quansah is off.

People complain about VAR but with it Arsenal's second goal would have been disallowed and Liverpool would have been down to 10 men to face a dangerous free kick with 4 mins or so left.

I think you might have missed why many of us hate VAR?

I can live with rivals getting the odd call cos I am not 12.

Quansah was a lucky boy at the end that there was no VAR. Looked a foul to me on the edge of the box and a likely red card. With or without VAR Liverpool are one lucky team.

I mean they wouldn’t because it’s Liverpool and VAR would have hidden behind “ref’s call” as they always do but agree with the sentiment.

A lot of it seems like old man shouts at cloud to me. The problem I have with VAR is that they're hellbent on fecking up it's implementation. Pre-VAR everyone was complaining constantly about terrible decisions because we could see the feckin replays.

I used to enjoy celebrating goals at the ground and in the pub. The three minute wait doesn't really add to it for me.

Anyway we won't agree so not the thread for it.

He looked guilty when the camera went on him afterwards. He was sort of smirking. Knew he got away with it.

Yeah this is how I feel about it. Implementation is the issue, not the technology itself.

Yeah, exactly this. It’s shockingly badly implemented. Any sort of semi-competent implementation and it’s a massive improvement on what we had before.

The chance of a linesman missing a vital offside or a player sneaking in a cheeky handball in matches where a manager’s job is on the line etc outweighs the slight delay in celebrating genuine goals to me.

I thought they'd go full strength and Arsenal would make changes and that's how it's gone. Feel like Arsenal played better and now the reinforcements have arrived so don't think 1-0 will do it for Palace...
Good call though to be fair.

Absolute scenes after scraping past a shite Palace at home?
It feels absolutely unreal. What a game and what a win. Feel more pumped now compared to when I did against Porto. The only thing missing in our club's history is the prestigious Carabao Cup. We win this and it's job done for Arteta.

Arsenal fans will wake up with hangovers!! Can't imagine any sleep tonight

You're trying too hard here pal

It was obvious I was being sarcastic in my first post. Noone in their serious minds takes such a tin pot trophy seriously. It was a tongue in cheek banter after hearing how amazing ETH was when he won this.

Light hearted jokes nothing else

*No one takes it seriously unless it's their team winning it. A first trophy in February, always nice and even if the rest of the season isn't all that, you still have that trophy.

I was joking I wasn't being sarcastic.

Could barely sleep, can't wait for the draw!!!!

I think this sums up well. It's obviously low in a list of priorities, i think it's importance can vary depending on the status and outlook of individual teams.

For someone like Liverpool, or Man City, i can understand them not really caring as they've won both this trophy and 'more important' trophies recently.

For someone like Arsenal, in my opinion it should take on some more significance, because this iteration of Arsenal hasn't won anything (apart from the Charity shield ;)), so at some stage this team needs to show it can go on and win trophies. As a club we often don't take this competition seriously, that's filtered down to many supporters as well, but when you get to the quarters /semi's, especially in our situation, go out and try and win the thing!

Arteta's been banging on about the bloody Community Shield counting as a trophy so the Carabao Cup is top drawer

It’s quite funny as your club hasn’t won a great deal really in its history.

The fact you’re trying so hard to belittle winning a trophy is amusing

It’s even more amusing that he appears to view Arsenal as some kind of elite Real Madrid level outfit.
We have the third most titles in England. And the most FA cups (the holy grail trophy for United the last few years by your fans on this board). And had it not been for City's disgusting cheating and stripping our squad we'd been right behind United in the late 2000s where our team wouldn't have been gutted.

We somehow add 1 CL to our record and this level of taunting will stop too.

Noone is Madrid level trophies wise. I just don't consider a tin pot Carling Cup as a major trophy. Fair dos if this is where your standards are nowadays

You have zero pedigree in Europe and based on recent success are in no position to speak to anyone about trophies. Certainly not look down on silverware as if it’s beneath your club.

Yes, one CL win will change this. Just like it did for Chelsea and City. Not sure where I'm bragging about being Madrid. You're the one bringing out pointless analogies mate.

Not sure why youre on a poisonous attack on me either after a light hearted banter post. If you read my posts here you know I post seriously. We've got the third largest league haul, and the most FA Cup wins. Hardly the stuff of minnows.

Poisonous attack? I’m just pointing out your posts make you look silly given your club has won the grand some of nothing lately.

You set yourself up for it.

I think I posted something a while back during this season that Arsenal could do with winning a Carabao or FA Cup (assuming they don't win the league/CL). When we finished 2nd in 2019 and 2022, we won a CL and a domestic cup double so that we weren't empty handed.

Arteta could do with having a back up so that he can say they won something. It'd do the players good as well.
