EFL Cup Final 2025 | Newcastle 2-1 Liverpool FT

Fairytale stuff from Newcastle
Fairytale of New Castle

They've got cars big as bars
They've got rivers of gold
But the sword goes right through you
It's no place for the bold
When you first cut off my hand
On a hot Christmas Eve
You promised me
Saudi was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of Riyadh City
When the executioners started cutting
They howled out for more
A dissident was swinging
All the sheikhs they were singing
You put on a burqa
Then fled through the night

The boys of the NUFC choir
Were singing Whitley Bay
And the bells were ringing out
On Carabao Day

Anyone but Liverpool, but Newcastle don't half have a hateful manager and set of players.
But we'll save that for another day.
Yep.
I'd genuinely forgotten all about this game until just seeing the score now.

One of those games where I didn't want either side to win. Presumably the story will be one of a 'romantic' win for the long suffering Newcastle fans, etc. Bloody annoying really, given it's been made possible by wealthy owners from Saudi Arabia. Yet when people thought wealthy owners from similar region were taking us over, the whole media and politicians, etc, were going on about how the club would be selling it's sole and the fans losing the club, and a dark day for English football, etc.

Yet for the likes of City and Newcastle (and maybe Spurs), apparently it's a fine and romantic story.

I want to see a YouTube video of Jim Ross commentating on Joelinton destroying Harvey Elliot. Bah Gawd!!! he's broken in half

First trophy newcastle have won in colour.

Comfortably the worst performance from us all season and in a final. Oh well. A bigger fish to fry but it always stings.

Yup. I take huge comfort in seeing Liverpool lose. Newcastle fans have been giving it the big one since the 90s though, without even winning anything. They're going to be terrible now.
By far the better option though.

The way the league has opened up for a Liverpool side who aren't even that good at all, has been sickening.
But a few weeks ago it looked easily possible for them to add another couple of trophies.

Getting a win away at PSG was the peak of fear I think, but thankfully they're out of that.

Hahaha, why am I not even surprised Liverpool lost to Newcastle? This Liverpool team is nothing special, they have their annual tradition of collapsing, Dortmund-style, around February and fading in the last few months of the season. If it wasn't for City or Arsenal not being their usual selves, Liverpool would have 100% lost the title this season too. Lucky buggers them. City have been completely off their game, and Arsenal are back to their usual bottling ways.

Trent will 100% go to Madrid, but hopefully Salah has his greedy eyes on over a million a week tax free for 3-4 years.
If he's smart he'll want to go out on a high winning the league AND into that insane money.

Very difficult one for Liverpool to manage as he's had the perfect season this year, but doesn't mean he will next, and certainly not over 3 years on 500k a week. Players often drop off a cliff into their mid 30s.

Yeah. My God if they'd have somehow been able to win the league and the Champions League.

There's been some properly head scratching talk this week about Salah being better than 2008 Ronaldo. 2008 Ronaldo always showed up in the big games. Where was Salah this week..?

The only issue I have with Salah is his performance in major finals. Never does it. Mane was always the one for those occasions.

Again anonymous today.

Matching Klopp's main trophies in 1 season would have been the ultimate head ruiner.
A disaster for rival fans, with the only weird "glory" being to show the Klopp hype was a bit overdone.

Mané scored 1 cup final goal in his appearances with us, Salah has 1 too?

Buzzing the geordies won it, my mum supports them because she loves Eddie Howe

I think even if Salah stays, it's just a matter of time before the decline hits and he stops racking up the numbers he has been racking up recently.
