Eduardo Camavinga / signs for Real Madrid

Thiago was 29 years old means he only has a few years left in him. Camavinga has lot of years to offer. The comparison is that if a 29 years old cost £25m then someone who has a chance to offer 10 years plus should be worth much more, thus why £26m is bargain of investment.
With a 29 year old CM there's always a chance of their level off a cliff when moving to a new league. On the other hand with these super talents they will always have a good resale value so there are arvuments to be made both ways.
My point is Camavinga isnt a proven commodity like Thiago was, we dont know how well hed adapt into a new league, new club, and new country at such young age.

Bet he adapts better than Thiago who despite being experienced has proven to be nothing other than a disaster in English football. Hence it isn't as simple as "experienced hence worth more". No signing gives you guarantees.

He is biggest young midfield talent in Europe. If we are not going to risk 30-40m to sign him (in which he should be valued at 70m if not in last year of contract), we will never going to get any future superstar at cheap.

So if we sell Pogba and get him our main double pivot options will be Camavinga Fred and Mctominay. All are box to box that can win the ball back. I would honestly prefer the double pivot to have a proper DM in it but I suppose Ole prefers having 2 ball winners there

McFred are both #8’s, they’ve been shoehorned to play a 6 role. Camavinga is currently already a #6/#8 hybrid who has the proper abilities in being defensively minded with progressive passing - something neither McFred can do thus the over reliance in having to play them both at the pivot.

Camavinga would allow himself and Pogba to be played at the pivot as it just makes too much sense not to. It’s the same as where Pogba plays for France (the pivot with Kante), Camavinga naturally sitting there and growing in that role would in all likelihood be what we see and one day even capable of being the lone DM - his defensive charts/statistics definitely don’t give a reason as to why not. One, United check off getting a proper ball playing defensively minded #6 and two, it rightfully allows Pogba to be regularly integrated in the starting 11 and not out at the expense of McFred because squad/positional limitations.

...these are France’s starting 11 in their last 4 matches. Where is Pogba playing? The pivot and ahead of Kanté. Why? Because France have natural DM’s which every team in the world a part from United do. Pogba played there irregardless of the formation. And for those who watched any of the France games, you’d see Kanté often times dribbles with the ball ahead of Pogba when the opportunity presents itself. Being a DM doesn’t mean you have to sit back 100% of the time. When you’re as graceful and gifted of a DM/#6 as a Kanté or Camavinga, you allow a player like Pogba to play beside you. Simple as that.

if France had no proper DM/#6’s to cover defensively (as United do not) and instead had McFred, then yes you’d see McFred starting for France and Pogba on the bench as is what happens with United. That isn’t a slight on Pogba (which people make it out to be for whatever reason), it’s a slight on the weak roster build at hand not having someone to play the defensive role in the middle of the pitch which results in a world class talent like Pogba not starting or being played in an off-position like out wide at LW or RW.

& it’s a footballing crime really. Just look at Pogba’s form when the squad he plays with isn’t lacking - player of the Euro’s, absolutely sensational with just about no one better in the world! He had a year or so with Matic before old age hit him and he balled out. He’s also had some tough injury luck but that’s football. So enough with uncalled for finger pointing. Club vs. country, there’s 2 different scenarios and 1 constant with 2 polarizing different results (...hint hint, it’s not Pogba’s fault - it’s the fault of lacking capable players to have the freedom to allow him to play which each team is supposed to have except United of recent years. A total injustice in the world of football).

Heh not like i didnt want us to sign him. I know how good talent he is, having watched him for France myself.

Liverpool, arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs subreddits are in meltdown. I have not watched him previously, but going by the reactions in those subs, looks like he is hot stuff.

Is there a genuine chance of us getting him, or is it just Rennes asking PSG to pay up?

Yup, totally agree. Have been saying exactly this for years, particularly the bold part.

Care to share a link to those SubReddits where others have meltdown about us signing Sancho and Camavinga? I need those juices injected. :D

You whole post ignored the fact that we would have to dump one of the attackers in the lineup to accommodate Pogba. Rabiot/Tolisso like Matuidi before them are there to provide more defensive cover. That would be like playing a pivot of Pogba and McTominay and then have Fred play left midfield to provide the extra legs to defend.

Camavinga is one of the best defensive mids statistically across Europe’s top5 leagues. He just happens to also be better passing/playmaking wise than McFred.

Yes he's hot commodity. If things go right he could be one of the best, most completed mifielders for the next 15 years.

We surely have a genuine chance. Atm it's between us and PSG I think.

Hurry up and sign him

I want to pick out his every flaw in his first 10 minute cameo sub appearance and call him "another Fred"!!!

Again Kante is a world class defensively and still needs the help of Tolisso/Rabiot to make a midfield 2 with Pogba work. My point here is a double pivot of Pogba and Camavinga would still need the help of fred/mctominay playing as wide midfielders. I am happy at the potential of signing Camavinga but I'd don't see it as a chance for the Pogvinga pivot we would be left open in midfield.

I want him here but I also feel that people fall in love easily with players that have an eye catching dribbling ability.

And some fall in love way too easily with limited footballers that show some heart and know how to defend despite their price tag being three times the footballer with ability on the ball.
Each to their own innit?

It would be a real coup if we can get him - feels like it's come out of the blue a bit.

I hope it's not just Romano trying to hype up his twitch page and we are genuinely that close?

None of the usual credible United journalists have confirmed our interest so far , I will wait till that before jumping on the bandwagon similar thing happened with fabinho and Gabriel as well news emanating from France but nothing came out of it.

I get the sense that we seemingly have a free run at Camavinga for such a cheap fee because PSG's efforts are on Pogba. They seem serious over signing a French CM and looking at their ambition in the window so far they'll get one. Fabrizio did say that our interest isn't dependent on Pogba's future so if he does leave for a decent fee(£50-60m) we should be in a position to go all out for Rice when you add the Lingard factor

Because the Sancho deal has been wrapped up earlier than expected the media have to jump on anything that has a link to us while the window is open and I have a feeling this kid is it. All I have seen mentioned before was Madrid and a little on Barca and the stuff about us is only rubbish IMO.
I have seen nothing credible to link this guy to us and I wait with bated breath

Bouhafsi is probably one of the most trustworthy journalist out there. There are hardly any French news he has got wrong. Plus Romano is backing this

If we get this done for that price and Varane for around 40 million quid then credit where it’s due and this summer has been phenomenal.

Fabrizio and Bouhafsi are two of the most reliable journalists in the game the latter for French news and they've both linked us to him reliably. They have zero links to Utd meaning no reason to create fake news for the sake of clicks

To be fair everyone has a reason to create news for the sake of clicks when it comes to our club, we generate a ridiculous amount of attention. Not saying that's the case here, but we know using our name gets so much focus.

Probably will sign him if Pogba is leaving otherwise we are too stocked up in CM Pogba, Fred, Scott, Matic, VDB.

However I wouldn't really be happy if he is Pogba replacement. We need a top quality midfielder to replace Paul or its taking a step back.

Pogba hasn't been playing as a CM, Matic scarcely players and VDB was bought primarily to play further up the pitch.

This lad is a textbook Utd signing. Just before they completely blow up, young, bags of potential, and by the looks of it isn't going to cost the world.
