On if he has received an offer from PSG, Manchester United or Real Madrid:

Florian Maurice: "No. There are certainly clubs who want Eduardo, but he has a price too and we will have to find an agreement on that level too. The size of the fee is linked to the player’s performance and the finances of the clubs who want this player… Me I have never spoken about €100m but he is a player who became an international in September and who has maybe had a bit more of a difficult season. But I remain confident in Eduardo’s quality. Tomorrow, pre-season begins. We will have discussions with him tomorrow to understand what he wants and how he is feeling. I am calm because we have a situation there there is a player who is still at Rennes. It seems that big clubs are looking at the player. Now, we are waiting to see. I think that Eduardo will not want to leave Rennes for free. So either we find an agreement this summer, or we will find a way to extend him."

Not sure if you watched the season that just finished but it happened quite regularly. It's simply incredibly difficult to fit Pogba into the same midfield as Bruno while we also have two wingers who are defensively lazy.
Pogba was only benched when he was coming back from Covid and was out of sorts in the first half of the season. Once he came back fully he never really lost his place until got injured. Then he started playing mostly on the left at the end of the season for tactical reasons. If Pogba stays, he's going to be playing mostly in midfield.

Does this really make that much sense? I would have thought this profile of signing would be a lower priority. He's by all accounts a player many top teams are looking at, but my worry is that we need somebody ready to hit the ground running and shore up our midfield department. Is he seriously ready to do that, and if not, is it potentially a mistake to be directing funds towards this?

It's an interesting one but I would have thought we'd be looking at slightly more experienced options. If he's at an exceptionally polished level for an 18 year old central mid then my concerns are misfounded, but there have been very, very few at a level at that age for a top PL side. An okay French side to Manchester United is a massive step in itself.

The tactical reasons are that he's difficult to fit into a midfield two.

Personally I expect Ole will probably play him in midfield again at the start of the season, which ultimately is going to hurt us. As the season wears on and it's a case of same-old same-old we'll see more of him being dropped or pushed out wide again.

He can obviously play in a midfield two at times but he's never going to be consistent. The team as a whole will be better with somebody more suited to the role even if they aren't as individually talented as Pogba (which pretty much nobody is).

This ones going to PSG. Drag your spunk buckets to the Varane thread boys.
I don't think PSG really need Camavinga, they already have Verratti. What they truly lack is creativity in the midfield and imo Pogba would thrive along Verratti, the same way he does along Kante. Camavinga would very well waste his best years to develop on their bench.

The only thing separating United from signing Camavinga, Varane and Sancho is money.

This summer you see how much ambition the club have got. No excuses.

We’ve just spent in excess of 85m Euros but you’re saying the club lacks ambition?
The CB and DM positions are more pressing anyway and not a lot more will be done before the Euros finish. Chill out

Do you even think about the current situation the club is in? Its in a better state than most but there is a little kafuffle called Covid-19. United lost over £100million quid in the past 12 months.
The fact that at this point we are about to spend the largest single transfer fee of this window is saying something. (Barca just collected 3 free transfers.)

You can shout all this platitudes or throwaway statements all you want but most of us live in the real world.

Time to wake up.

It just concerns me that again I'm hearing that 'United are interested, but it depends on whether Pogba leaves'
This comment gets rolled out everytime we are linked with a MF regardless if he is attacking or defensive, I hope there's no truth in it, but it suggests that we are perfectly happy with a pool of Mata, Matic and McFred, and are not looking to replace any of them with better players.

His highlights on youtube is really impressive for a 17-18 year old. I know it's Ligue 1 but he looks like a midfielder who could do everything really good

I don't think it's that we're happy with it, but rather that we have one particular player in mind (Rice) and would be happy to wait for him to become available. Just as we did for Sancho, and to a lesser extent, Bruno.

There is also the other outstanding issues we have with the squad in the form of RW (which is IMO a bigger need than CM) and CB. Now personally, for me, I'd rather we spent the CB money on a CM. However, if the choice was to get a CB and THEN a CM, rather than a CM and no CB (which IMO would probably happen, as a good CM would cover the weaknesses of our CB partnership) then I'd rather wait for the CM and improve the backline, as Lindelof really isn't cut out to be first choice for me.

I hate that way of thinking.

If we are willing to spend on unknowns like Pellestri and Amad, we'd be foolish not to sign this kid. He's a known commodity in france and arguably one of the top young talents in the world.

Varane, Sancho and Carmavinga in one wondow ...that will be the best window...vastly improves our team

But we still dont have a DM. Great window nevertheless
Camavinga can easily play in 4-3-3 on the right side of midfield, but Ole would be tempted to use his tackling and movement in the middle as deep midfielder.

So far one year till end of his contract is that one thing that keeps it potentially alive and it's too early for Garner to step up, anyway.

Also no strong links to other midfielders...

The new football legend Edgar Davids? The boy is really no doubt really skillful. Top ball control in top speed.
Only at 18. I will already rate him one of the most skillful cm player.

Camavinga - Locatelli. This dream cm duo. If really want to play offensive, boss and control the midfield. I recommend you go for this ideal duo to bossed football game on the highest level.

Locatelli to Juventus. Juventus rebuilding process? Then Juventus shall know they time. Ex Juventus legend similar player Edgar Davids in Camavinga.

Two of the first players I would pick on a five a side, futsal and street football. Camavinga and Locatelli would own and boss the ball and pitch.

Dream team and 6 ideal line up in a 4231 formation

Raphinha - Camavinga - Locatelli - Sancho + Bruno + Greenwood/Rashford.

This 6/7 will boss every team you put up against. They are so good with the ball, combining with top speed on the ball, top level at small areas. You will not loan the ball too often. Playing again those 6. City, Liverpool, Bayern, Barca, Paris, R Madrid. Not chance those teams will boss those 6 combination.

Camavinga - allround CM
Locatelli - allround CM
Raphinha - RW - if not Raphinha. Greenwood would maybe can do the same job as Raphinha as a really good RW. On a consistent high level. Think Sancho is a bit better on the left. Use him there.
Alternative :

Sancho - Camavinga - Locatelli - Rashford + Bruno + Greenwood.

My feeling and I get highest confidence with Raphinha as RW and Sancho as LW combination.

Again. CM duo Camavinga - Locatelli is a wet and ideal dream. Alternative to Camavinga is the upcoming Aurélien Tchouaméni.

CM options with those 4 : Camavinga, Locatelli, Aurélien Tchouaméni and McTerminator. Really bright future. If it so easy to get those 3 cm players.
If i am owner of a top football club. Dof and manager. Have the money and want to play offensive football, boss big matches. I know who I would call, convince and buy. 3 of the natural cm players who have impressed me most.

Exciting times to see where Locatelli, Camavinga and Tchouaméni will end. Definitely at top club in the best league. I would definitely put my money on that. All of those 3 will end at top 3/4 in the 4 biggest league. One day

If we sign them and they all have the desired effect, it could be one of our best ever.

1989/90 and 2007/2008 the best for me:

89 - started so-so with Whiteside and McGrath leaving and Webb and Phelan coming in - but then we announced Pallister and Ince on the same sunday in early september and Danny Wallace a few weeks later.

07 - off to a flyer with a double-swoop for Anderson and Nani. Then Hargreaves finally arrived and on top of that we got Tevez. And we finished it with Manucho :)

If an 18yo is worth 50mil then there is no argument that he is one of the best young talents in the world.

Tbh I would be more than confident that 50mil would become a bargain for this lad, no doubt in my mind.

Imo he’s every bit as nailed on to become a top player as Amad, and more as he’s proven himself in league 1 already at 18.

McGrath leaving devastated me as a fan, such a talented defender and player, shame his issues forced Sir Alex to wield the axe. A very mixed bag of signings that summer, Pallister the best one in my opinion.

I wonder where we're going to be cash wise this summer, are the owners going to be happy increasing the debt to appease the fans???

Have you read his autobiography?

If we sign two of them that would be great. We (and nobody else) don't have money for all 3. They 3 cost over 200mil. Plus huge wages for Varane and Sancho. On top of that, we must sign new contract with Pogba.

Kid has potential to be superstar but Sancho, Varane and Pigba should be absolute priority.

Was most excited about Webb myself - his stats for Reading, Portsmouth and Forest were insane. 26 years old he had scored 101 league goals as a central midfielder - he could have gone on to become a legend if not for that injury which ruined his career. Webb probably was the best midfielder in the country when United signed him

Rennes head coach (Genesio) "We know that he is in a situation where there is only one year of contract left here, and we have already stressed several times that we cannot afford to remain in this situation concerning an international player like him ," relieved his coach Bruno Genesio on Tuesday. It's part of a career to have important decisions to make, he has a very important one to make for his future, and we, the club, also have our interests to defend. I hope we will find a solution that satisfies everyone. "

L'Equipe: While the interest of PSG and Manchester United, in particular, has emerged, " no proposal (has) arrived on the office of the president " , had assured Monday on TV Rennes the sporting director Florian Maurice, which dismissed the idea that it remains without prolonging: "I do not think that Eduardo will wish to leave for free" .
