Edinson Cavani - SIGNED for United

The shit slinging tonight is ridiculous.

It's possible to be annoyed at the board and the way this summer has been handled, but still think Cavani is a decent signing. You can be happy with signing a top quality and experienced back up striker, without suddenly being labelled a Glazer lover.

Exactly.

I've no problem with us taking a punt on Cavani, but, by the time Ighalos loan ends we'll have had a full year to identify and sign a more long term solution, so we're not having to take punts with 2 days left in the window.

You don't pay obscene amounts of money for players to "fill in". It's like some of you lot have no sense of how much money this club has wasted and continues to waste.

After all the failed stupid signings we've made, suddenly this one will be a massive success in a crucial year for the long-term progress of our club. Yeah, of course, whatever you fecking say.
For a player of his calibre on a short term deal I think is acceptable.

Maybe you've had too much internet for one day go have a sit down pal.

I am referring to the experience needed to help Pellestri settle down at a European club.
I know which I said even among European club, PL and a club like us North fo England, is a different environment that Cavani has to face himself, before he can help anyone else.

Weird one for me

Cavani alone - Not so sure it's a good signing .

Cavani and Sancho - Amazing . We become Stacked up front

So he justifies being on more money than almost all of the leagues best, most prolific forwards who are the figureheads of their teams because he can 'come in and fill in games here and there'?
Absolutely, for a player of his caliber.

Do you want world-class players on average player's wages? The reports say we got him on a very good deal so let's just wait and see.

Ole's concern about Ighalo must be real if he's pursuing Cavani at this stage of his career.

How many minutes has Ighalo played since we extended?

What’s the point in buying an insurance policy if you never use it. Same thing.

He was there if we needed it. If we had a couple of injuries to Martial and Greenwood, and given Rashford was coming back from injury, we would have been in real trouble.

So we're offering Dortmund 20m less than they want for Sancho.

Yet we're willing to pay 10m to Cavani's agent.

Depends though doesn’t it, Kane is at Spurs and knows he won’t be paid as well unless he he moves to other clubs, if he does he will be one of the highest, Mane and Salah moved to Liverpool at a time when they didn’t warrant top wages, again they move now and they will comfortably be on high wages.

Were in a different position and have to pay because of it or we get someone with less quality and experience.

Where's this info about Cavani's salary that we've agreed upon? All I was aware of was Cavani demanding ~10 million Euros per season + agents wanting 10 million Euros, not us necessarily agreeing to those terms.

And what has happened to that over the last couple of seasons?
19/20: 5 goals, 1 assist in 732 minutes across league and CL - goal contribution every 122 minutes
18/19: 20 goals, 6 assists in 2091 minutes across league and CL - goal contribution every 80 minutes
17/18: 35 goals, 7 assists in 3269 minutes across league and CL - goal contribution every 78 minutes

His goal contribution rates dropped last season, but that's because over half his appearances were off the bench. Even so, he still provided plenty of end product for the time he was on the pitch.

We should have signed Zlatan back if this is our way of planning for the future.

By the way, I think your logic in finding an acceptable reason for the financial conditions of this deal is beyond stupid. And people with similar stupid logic and reasoning seem to be slowly but surely destroying our club. More power to you though, hopefully you don't get too emotional when the delusion fades away and reality hits you.

that we are too good to be signing a player like him, that he’s beneath us.

We should be achieving better signings than this. The fact that we aren't says everything about the club's ambitions. The fact that some fans will swallow it says everything about them. What's the opposite of entitled? Impoverished?

The leadership this guy will bring to a young attack can't be discounted.

He's a warrior which will be a very much welcome addition to what if we're brutally honest with ourselves, has been a bit of a squad full of softcocks in recent years.

Zlatan would have been decent probably, still banging them in from Milan isn't he.

You know where that ignore button is then don't you if you're sick of me.

he provides competition and is back up.

Who?

I see no problem with the signing. There’s no need for the reaction that’s he’s got tonight.

So you’d rather go into the season with just Rashford, Martial and Greenwood to rely on?

Romano has said we’re paying it. It’s a free transfer though so agent and signing on bonus would always be high.
He just said that we agreed on personal terms with Cavani, not what those personal terms exactly are. Before those Tweets, he mentioned how United aren't willing to pay crazy wages to Cavani.

The agents are demanding this; there's nothing indicating that we're okay with paying this. We're probably negotiating the agent fees at this stage.

Cavani’s agents are asking for €10m as part of the deal, a figure that led to potential moves to Benfica and Atlético Madrid collapsing earlier in the summer, but United have indicated they are willing to do business.[/QUOTE]

Quality player no doubt and it won’t hurt having him here but £210k a week for a potentially injury prone bench warmer is steep and if this is the best we can do it does feel a bit depressing.

So you’d rather go into the season with just Rashford, Martial and Greenwood to rely on?
No, I'd rather get a RW and LB or CB as I've said before. DM is bigger priority as well because Matic is getting too old and can't play twice a week.

We could have looked for a stop-gap in January, why the hurry to sign someone for the bench now, when we can improve at least 2 first 11 positions?

I'd say the fact that the deal is happening is indicative of us being okay with paying it.
That could just mean that we're willing to negotiate with the agents, not that we're willing to pay it. If we were, then we'd have had a Tweet about medicals being scheduled by around this time.

I think it is well known that Sanchez was a bit of a cnut.
Cavani is no saint. He has this rivalry from Neymar from the get go. It has been downplayed initially, but exposed more and more the closer Cavani gets from his PSG exit.

As somebody pointed out, Cavani is not nice about just being on bench, he would push to start. Good competitive mentality when Cavani is in good form, but a timebomb if he offers the performance level of this past season.

You are right, it was funny at the beginning, but it seems you really believe everything you have said so far. I feel sorry for you, honestly.

Well he's flying over here tomorrow according to Simon Stone.

There are a lot of United fans who need to stop living their lives on the back of every single gobshite with a twitter account. Wait until the full details emerge before throwing toys out of prams and believing the worst case scenario from the off.

At the same time, when people are expressing legitimate frustration at things like leaving our transfer business til the last days of the window when everything has escalated into a circus and the season is already well under way, that is ok too. People should be allowed to criticise that incompetence without being called precious or entitled.

Everyone needs to take a minute and breathe.
Thats what I see here. Any negative tweet or news is taken as gospel and right to moan about, and any positive ones are taken as completely false, propaganda etc etc and if anyone believes it are naive, knows-nothing and pro-Glazers. I used to think United is a gold mine for reporters because United is big, but these days I think its more because the fans are absolutely obnoxious.

Started summer with 'take advantage of the market' talk and ending it with 'well he's better than Ighalo'.

This club man. Look what it's done to us all.
