If he gets us an extra 10-12 points this year so what? Its free

We'll be lucky if he plays 10-12 games, never mind wins us 10-12 points.

I don't think people realise just how broken down Cavani looked last season. There's a reason he and his agent have spent all summer begging any team who would listen for a decent contract.

Back to the bad old days of hype without substance signings like Schweinsteiger and Falcao.

I mean Rashford is not a no9, Greenwood is still learning his trade and at the moment better as a right inside forward, Ighalo is SHIT and leaving in January leaving Martial as our only no9 and he`s more of a false 9 than an out out ST a target man that`s proven at the highest level who we can rotate our forwards with and who can give them short term guidance is one of the smartest signings we could make and Cavani is the very best on the market. If he`s our only attacking signing then yes its annoying but if he comes with Sancho or a solid RW plus a LB very astute buy

He's not done as a player yet, and will be a decent option from the bench tbh. How old was Henrik Larsson when he got loaned here? He didn't do an huge impact. I'm just sayin'...

Van De Beek and Cavani isn't enough, though

Not sure how I feel about this we finally get rid of Sanchez and his massive wages and now we have Cavani on huge wages. Wages that could be given to someone like Sancho but of course we won't pay for him

How was he for PSG last season?

Screams panic buy to me and also a "name" that they (Ed) are hoping will wow the fans and stop them getting angry over the faff that is Sancho. Could make it even worse for them if he flops.

Do we think Ole had any say in it.

Ibra was great for us until his awful injury, i know he had a greater overall skill set but just maybe Cavani could chip in and help out BUT Ole will have to utilise him correctly and sparingly due to his age. Isnt he injury prone too?

It would have been slightly better if we offered him a 1 year deal with an optional additional year if he is coping well.

I'd possibly give him the odd game in a front 2 with Mason who obviously will be our main striker in time. He could be good for him to learn from.

I like cavani but we snubbed bale but ended up signing cavani in panic mode, a pathetic mess from our club once again

Better backup than Ighalo so I'm not against this. Short term move, means we could still go for Haaland when his clause kicks in (though the competition would be massive obviously).

Only managed 14 games due to ongoing injuries all season. Scored 4 goals.

Argued with the coach, Mbappe, Neymar and everyone else. He’s been crocked on and off for about 2 years.

PSG couldn’t wait to get rid.

Sounds perfect for our cultural reboot

7 goals in all comps last season; what does that prove?

To be fair, he barely played. Sergio Romero played more minutes for us last season than Cavani did for PSG. 7 goals in just over 1,000minutes isn't too bad.

I'm trying to remain optimistic... I think he'll do ok here, at least its another option to have on the bench.

This. Will end in tears.
I actually think as a rotation option he might do alright, he should be an upgrade on Ighalo and we do need depth. The reason it's dispiriting is because it just shows again that there is no plan, they're in panic mode again like 2013 and 2014 so to try and frame this as some calculated plan where we have him and then we'll get Haaland in 2 years is just ludicrous. It's clear that we need more depth and it's so late that we're just taking whoever is available, I do still expect us to get someone like Perisic in on loan on Monday when the Sancho thing is finally dead.

It does feel a bit desperate and too late in his career. Zlatan is very much the exception that proves the rule.

Cavani has been a class player though, so the transfer does have a high ceiling if he is fit and motivated. He has the ability to get plenty of goals. I’m not overly convinced by Tony still and Ighalo is struggling to have an impact, so we needed something. The problem is the floor of what we might get is few appearances due to injuries and even fewer goals.

I’m intrigued, but unconvinced. I only hope this is a move that Ole has pushed for and it’s not just another name pushed on the manager. On the surface it does little to adjust the appearance of a disappointing window.

He’s probably on £200k a week at least and very few signings can ever evidence an attributable points increase like that. You probably don’t even expect to get that from Messi.

His injuries per Transfermarkt

18/19:
Muscle injury, 51 days
Hamstring injury, 9 days
Hamstring injury, 21 days
Muscle injury, 25 days
Total, 106 days

19/20:
Hip injury, 52 days
Fitness, 28 days
Calf injury, 4 days
Muscle injury, 13 days
Groin strain, 17 days
Total, 114 days

A lot of reoccurring muscular injuries for an ageing player.
Fingers crossed he doesn't pass the medical.

Free transfer. Wages amount to a little over 20 million over 2 years. Can't compare that to what Sanchez cost with transfer fee and wages.

Could he be a positive influence like Zlatan or is he going to stink the place out if things don’t go well?

Do we think Ole had any say in it.

Goes against the type of player he's been buying and what he's been saying. When the signing is announced, he'll say he's happy but with what went on with Sanchez and his comments there, and not going for Bale for the wages and everything, I really can't see that Ole has pushed for it. Definitely the sign of a desperate board (read: Ed and Matt) who realised that not bringing anyone else other than VDB isn't going to look great, so have done this to try and get some appeasement.

Oh God not another Falcao. Massive wages, might have large agent fees, why? Just why?! Surely there must be cheaper, more reasonable options available.

No issue with Cavani acquisition at all. Proven number 9. Something completely different than our front 3 and as I said in other thread, Ighalo is off 1st January, so panic buys in Jan. Greenwood, Rashford, Martial can learn a lot from him.

Granted he has miles on the clock but im wondering if there would be the same negativity if Utd would have had the transfers they needed over the line. This would have been the icing on the cake

22 games, 7 goals for PSG... Where are you getting your stats from??
To be fair he's played 1096 minutes in these 22 games, so barely above 12 full games. 10 goal involvements is not bad at all.

We used to be revered as one the 'biggest clubs in the world' but now we are beyond embarrassing. The club has boasted about their 'cultural reboot' but have failed to get a long term target in Jadon Sancho who is regarded as one of the best young players in the world and is eager to join us. And yet here we are signing players who are past their best in Edison Cavani on the cheap primarily because it saves those owners money. We might just be finished, I can't see us challenging at the top until real changes are made.

I just thought the days of us doing these types of signings were done. Truly bizarre, yet so sadly predictable.

Upgrade on Ighalo, but my expectations are ridiculously low.
