Edinson Cavani - SIGNED for United

Amazing signing a decade ago.

But you don't win titles by aiming for Haland, a player who is going to be a world class striker for the next decade - and signing Ighalo on loan for 6 months. Or aiming for Sancho, who could well be a world class winger for the next decade and signing a 33 year old who has been offered to every club in Europe and beyond for months.

This is desperation, not skill in the transfer market.

The way I see it, the reaction to this signing is going to be largely circumstantial. If we had signed Cavani immediately after he became a free agent, I dare say it would’ve been fairly well received. We’d have at least given the impression we had targets and were working to secure them early. Had we then went on to sign other targets at CB, LB and RW, this deal would’ve made sense. Alternatively, if we were sitting here with a CB, LB and RW in the bag, Cavani would, in all likelihood, be perceived as a very nice little cherry on top. However, it’s happening under circumstances that lead us to believe we’ve failed to secure our top targets and are now taking what’s available.

Tailor made for the Premier League in his prime and if he comes in, I’ll give him a fair chance. Let’s see.

Ole should just walk. Goes against everything he’s been working towards. Joke of a board.

He can’t be any worse than Igahlo. If it’s £150k and he knows he’s coming off the bench, it could be a good move. Even at 33 he must be a better option off the bench than Lingard and James.

How was he at PSG last year?

Cavani gives us a different option when it comes to forwards. Past his prime but he'll still do a job for us.
What job would that be, he played 8 games last season. This is a dogshit signing of the highest order and shows just how clueless the board are.

I think Cavani and Sancho double deal Monday.

Dalot, Perreira and Smalling out.

Last big contract.

Once he signs he can put his feet up on the treatment table until he's 36.

what a barometer. Ighalo plays like he is wearing a spacesuit

Ummmm not sure how i feel about this.
Was a great player, will likely be a great flop for us, but hey, Ed gets what he believes is a big name that he hopes will keep the fans happy. Little does he know...

I'm big a fan of Cavani but.... He will be 34 next February and he wants 2 years 210,000 annually. NO WAY!!! It will be another "panic buy". Didn't we learn from Schweinsteiger, Falcao and others? Yikes, we become a joke of a club.

pretty much the panic signing you'd expect. Big name, washed up, big wages, injury problems ... checks all the boxes.

Totally agree. All the crybabies that wanted Ole out would then get their wish to come true and become miserable again after Poch becomes another disappointment.

I'm just going to assume that this is a supplementary deal to the Sancho one, and in which case I have no objections to bringing him in for two seasons. Regressing, yes, but still technically the best No.9 we'll have in our squad. If he can stay injury free then we'll have serious threat coming in from the bench at least. A game-changer is what we need, regardless. Now, I hope we go on to secure Jadon.

As announced by the Spanish press, Edinson #Cavani will join Manchester United. He travels through the night to #Manchester and will have the medical examination tomorrow. Contract until June 2022.

Why everybody against this transfer, for me Cavani is great option for us.

He cost us 0 euro, and his wage is acceptable 10m euro per year (~200K euro per week)

He also can be a role model for our youngster (especially Joe Hugill)

Heres hoping this deal getting done means a potential Telles and Sancho will follow after. Otherwise without them it looks like a panic buy.

People are going mad but if we close with Telles and Sancho/Dembele before Monday, that’s a fantastic window.

How much better is Cavani and Greenwood coming off the bench for the last half hour than Lingard and Ighalo?? It improves us so much.

Hopefully everything is set up with Telles and the price is agreed and Dembele loan is waiting if Sancho doesn’t happen.

Ole gone by Christmas has just been confirmed with this.
Not sure how this player suits the type of play Ole wants, given he was happy to let Lukaku go. Confusing signing that does nothing to back up what Ole has said these last few season. Highlights the lack of understanding between Ed and Ole.
I bet he doesn’t score 5 league goals this season.
What a club.

Will give us threat in the box that's for sure.

I doubt he is instead of Sancho anyway, completely different players.

His injuries per Transfermarkt

18/19:
Muscle injury, 51 days
Hamstring injury, 9 days
Hamstring injury, 21 days
Muscle injury, 25 days
Total, 106 days

19/20:
Hip injury, 52 days
Fitness, 28 days
Calf injury, 4 days
Muscle injury, 13 days
Groin strain, 17 days
Total, 114 days

A lot of reoccurring muscular injuries for an ageing player.

If we sign Sancho and Telles I’m happy. If it’s our only signing it’s a disgrace. Literally no in between.

I don't think he'll be on that fat of a contract if he didn't play many games last season.

I think it's a good signing. He can be the target man that none of our forwards are capable of being.

Wish it would've happened preferably when LVG was after him a few years ago but having him as another attacking option for our dire bench isn't terrible.

Welcome to Manchester El Matador

Stop acting like a spoiled kid because you didn't get what you want FFS. I'd be as happy as anyone to see us get Sancho but if the price isn't right then whatever. I'm not going to cry about it.

Your totally right, much better to let the Glazers take extra money out of the club in dividends than overpay for a world class player that is keen to sign for United. I for one will sleep better at night knowing they didn't have to lower the % they drain out of the club to get the Sancho deal over the line.

Ah here’s the top red. Sorry mate, you’re bang on. Telles, VDB and Cavani is a great summer. It isn’t Sancho or nobody btw. We could have actually moved on months ago.

How was he at PSG last year?

Only managed 14 games due to ongoing injuries all season. Scored 4 goals.

Argued with the coach, Mbappe, Neymar and everyone else. He’s been crocked on and off for about 2 years.

PSG couldn’t wait to get rid.

Since 2013 we've signed Sanchez, Bastian, Falcao, Zlatan and Valdes... Players who have all been world class at some stage in their career. Thing is, only one was good for us and that was the only one who'd never had a serious injury.

Now we're signing another former world class player coming off an injury hit season...When will we fecking learn?

Probably just past it and never quite world class but a huge upgrade to Ighalo as a player although Ighalo has a great team attitude. Typical clueless signing by our board as usual. Fan strike if this window doesn't improve. #Glazersout #Eddieout.
