Edinson Cavani - (Ex-)Manchester United Player

Yeah the right 10 would’ve been perfect for him. Shame he turned out to be a scumbag, if the club wasn’t planning on keeping him I feel like we would’ve replaced him more capably.
I agree. Felt like we was forced into signing Antony for ridiculous money because we was desperate for a left footed right winger and there wasn’t many on the market. So we got bent over.

Honestly amazing how differently he is viewed to the reality. Absolute mercenary who had an ok season then completely bailed on us to ensure he was fit for the WC. Ragnick named him one of the most toxic players at the club.

When and where did Rangnick name him toxic?

Cavani, Pogba and Martial he called mood killers on a German interview. He also said in a pre match presser in English that Cavani was fit but declaring himself unfit (as he prioritised the WC)

I doubt he was upset about it.
Let me get this right:

You play centreforward and have been one of the best for over a decade.

You were out of contract in June and wanted to go back home to South America because you found the months of short daylight during winter quite depressing. He was that specific.

The club begged you to stay because you were essential, yadda yadda.

Come September, the club sign a shiny toy playing your position and ask you to give up your number to the guy who will be benching you regardless of whatever effort you put into it.

Chuffed to bits, obviously. Not looking forward to the winter ahead, but you will play along and get out in January.

Then the manager changes, the new one doesn't like the workrate of the shiny toy and it transpires your forward partner is a cnut and won't be around for a while so... you have to stay.

Awesome.

I recall him being injured for us a fair bit but finding fitness for Uruguay...
I don't hold this against him at all.
Signing Ronaldo ruined us that year. He took Cavani's number and made a bit part player, also changed the team chemistry. Even Ole pretty much admitted this on the overlap.

First season he gave it his all in Cavani fashion. Second season was your recollection when it was clear he was basically third choice striker.

All timer and glad he actually did play here for a bit, though.

Sad he spent his entire prime at PSG and not us, feel that playing in Ligue 1 has slighty harmed his legacy, but still glad he played for us and was great that first season

So he didn't call him toxic, thanks for clearing that up.

Oh no poor Edinson. As I say I doubt changing number upset him.

Considering how good Cavani was - yet he wasn’t even top 5 strikers of his generation - I think he definitely makes top 10 but that might even be debatable. Yet, in today’s game, he’ll probably easily be a top 5 CF. Shows the serious lack of quality CF’s currently in the game.
Kane, Aguero, Suarez and Lewa.. who else was better than him? Maybe if we're including Zlatan but I feel he was the previous generation

Benzema would be the other “obvious” one plus Zlatan (but yeah, that could be debatable). Could add in Tevez perhaps? Higuain (not for me, but now I’m just naming forwards ). Falcao was a beast but injuries ruined him.

Dismiss a coaches opinion all you want, no skin off my back, but, yes or no question: does someone being a ‘mood killer’ hint at a bad attitude?

No. Cavani's attitude on the pitch was never the issue. In contrast to Pogba and Martial.

What is a mood killer anyway? You don't laugh at my bad jokes? You do not feel my "energy" and enthusiasm? You don't click with Ralf's "vision"?

Wow. Ok sure, it was just Ralf trying to create feng shui and making a mountain out of a mole hill. for a coach to come out and specify it has to be bad. Hilarious you mention his attitude on the pitch, when he could be bothered and Uruguay weren’t playing soon yeah, sure, he was great.

I do forget that the likes of Tevez and Rooney are only a few years older than Cavani, Benzema etc. in my mind they were different generations

Have to agree with this. I have no idea why Cavani is held in so high esteem at this club. He was sulking because of Ronaldo and contributed feck all after the first season

Oh, yeah, I suppose if you ignore everything else that comes with it and focus on the specific single-digit number that is not what upset him. Congrats, you win, here's your cupcake.

In fairness, the way we played that semester I'm pretty certain there's only a handful of players that had a good attitude.

He just seems to have singled out the ones definitely on the way out and avoided addressing the elephants in the room.

I'm not disagreeing with you by the way. I'm clear Cavani's second season was rubbish and he clearly and very openly didn't want to be here. As soon as Cristiano arrived I actually told a couple of his former NT mates that he should leave because warming the bench was not going to work for him in the year prior to the World Cup. They were optimistic both could work together, no idea if he thought that or it was just them, bit of a Joey Tribbiani analysis: good player + good player = great!

Just saw his "all goals" for United. What a classy and smart forward. Always finding space and being clever with his runs. And what a beautiful man.
How I miss having such a complete forward.

We should have broken the bank for him years before. He would have been a club legend.

You said something that wasn't true.
You got caught and instead of adjusting your emotional issues you double down on your initial false description, twisting everything you can to make it work. I think we're done here, you answered all I could have asked for. This exchange is over.

You’ve taken an interesting angle, I’ll give you that. As if a mood killer (bearing in mind it translated) is better than toxic. I get why you want the exchange to end.

A bit weird trying to argue that a player a manager called a mood killer and refused to play matches for the club and was sulking for a full season because we signed Ronaldo was not toxic.

Again, hyperbole.
He didn't outright refuse, or did he? He was in fact "sulking for a full season" because we got Ronaldo? Is that true? Do you see how these falsehoods establish themselves as lore. It's nonsense.
You calling him toxic is your subjective perception, based on hyperbole and lies.

Well the other option is to be overly dramatic about the whole situation, blow everything out of proportion and imagine a grown man in his late 30's was upset that he had to play with a different number on his back for a club he wasn't that fussed on being at in the first place.

One of my all time favorite players, glad we got to watch him wear the uniform. Shame we didn't sign him from Napoli. The guy worked his balls off and was always a perfect showman, knows how to work a crowd.

How is it hyperbole when him refusing to play was stated by Ragnick? I’m confused by your argument - you seem to think because Ragnick’s words were translated to mood killer not toxic it somehow matters? It’s the equivalent of me saying Ibra is 194cm tall and you saying you’ve ‘caught’ me because actually he’s 195cm tall. That’s not the point.

If you’re a big Cavani fan, that’s great. He was an awesome player and he just came to us a bit late. But how much evidence do you need?

He did refuse
