That wasn‘t even close to an easy chance. He hit it on the volley from looping cross and he still got a clean strike. Most strikers would skied it.
Agreed, but I think 8 times out of 10, he'd have scored from atleast one of the 4 shots he had in the 1st half. Taking nothing away from overall play, and the goal, which I felt was brilliant

Great player. Class signing. The meltdown here when he was signed was hilarious.
It really was. Obsession with age is the main explanation, you would think with the likes of Zlatan/Cristiano and even Messi still performing at their age (without even mentioning all the other countless ones who are performing well in their 30s), that fans would be less reluctant to players of that bracket, specially if they're proven quality. The squad is young overall, a player like him was very much needed.

Great goal and on his “weak foot”.
A signing like this can be very important for us it’s the kind of player that score the winning goal for us makes the difference between loosing and drawing.
If he do not score this we dont score the 2nd and anything could happen.

Glad to have been one of the few people that were actually really happy we got him when everyone on here was convinced he`d be Falcao 2.0 and another crock that would sink us into a deep abyss of mediocrity for eternity. Class is permanent regardless of age. Cavani, Suarez, Zlatan amongst others despite their ages are still doing really well at their respective clubs and all of them possess top tier mentality Utd fans should be glad he plays for us even at 33

Well majority of us were convinced that Sancho is coming, than we singed Cavani on last day of transfer windonw and gave him no.7 , even though he was free player for whole summer.

A game changer. He still enjoy scoring goals. Although his passing and shooting are still rusty, he looked so fit. So hopefully things will be picking up.

Think he will prove to be absolutely massive for us over the 2nd half of the season / final stretch. Will be a real difference maker.

And absolutely none of that mattered. He was always going to be class regardless of Sancho, shirt numbers or cost or anything else. Whatever the reason we didn't get him earlier, it doesn't matter. For the first time in years we have a CF who can be considered one of the best in his position in the world and it shows on the pitch.

And?

That gave you all reason to act like spoilt babies when we’d clearly been given the opportunity to sign a class player in a position we were desperately lacking?

We didn’t have a single genuine number nine in the entire squad and it was widely reported that Cavani had to drop his wage demands near the end of the window after his move to Atletico fell through.
This was always a great opportunity for us late in the window, we were lucky, but instead loads acted like spoiled brats because we didn’t spend 120m on Sancho.

It's like no one is old enough to remember Sheringham and Larsson, both came here over 30. Sometimes age isn't as big a factor if the talent is big enough.

We should give him a new contract

Steady on fella  - We've actually got good terms with Cavani. Good as he is there is still a chance of injury, especially after seeing his workrate and general hussle and bussle. Fantastic player and although I was pleased with his signing, I'm actually surprised at how much I'm enjoying watching him play.

What people don't understand is, if we signed him in the beginning of the window, salary demands would have been of Sanchez level (also worth considering he was a free agent), leaving it late till end of the window and not many clubs meeting his demands, kind of got a better deal for the club on their terms.

The sort of forward player we needed to compliment the younger attackers. Top mindset and a winner.

To be fair, at the time you said it as "understandable":
A lot of fans are angry and it's understandable given the context, we're being managed woefully at the top.

Yeah of course it does. Cavani isn’t a bad signing at all in its own right, having Cavani available to cover for Martial is sound.

It’s just that unsolved RW position, it will be very disappointing to have that same problem come deadline day.

I agree. I’d even be happy keeping James as cover for the left, he seems better there than on the right but we need another good right sided attacking wide player either to be a first teamed or as quality cover and competition for Greenwood.

You were also frustrated with how the window panned out. Replying to " Who isn’t? You can honestly say you are happy with how it’s all going at the moment? "
Nope, I’m not.

I’m happy we’ve finally brought an actual striker into the squad though. The number 7 means feck all these days, SAF saw to that on purpose.
Happy about a new LB.

Disappointed to feck about the window in it’s entirety, but this transfer has real merit.

To all three of you, credit to you three that you wanted the player, but let us also not rewrite history and pretend you were all so happy that we did not sign Sancho (or another proper RW) and/or did not share some of the frustration of fans at the time.

It mattered to you.

Signing Cavani was never a negative for me and I was clear about that. Filling that RW has mattered and still does but not to the point where I was disappointed about Cavani coming here so don't try and rewrite my history fella. In hindsight now I'm actually very GLAD we didn't spunk £100m on Sancho.

Ultimately I stand by my post ... none of it mattered. Sancho. Shirt numbers. Cavani's availability!

I thought there was a good chance he'd be like Henrik Larsson, a wise old head in a young attack that brings a calming influence and a bit of class. Looks much better than that! The biggest thing I'm liking about him at the moment is his desire to win and unbridled joy in scoring. Like Bruno (and a little like Zlatan) he injects a bit of positivity into the team and I think helps us shrug off any of the mistakes and problems.

You'd think after Zlatan and Cavani people will start to realise that performing exceptionally well in other leagues does actually tend to indicate you're an exceptionally good player. The Premier League isn't some mythical beast that needs to be tamed to demonstrate your quality, and the handful of European performances you watch do not override a player's entire career.

He’s already made a different for us this season.
Won us 3 points at southampton and pretty much got us through to the semis of the cup with a decent strike. Great player and probably got a couple years in him yet! Wouldn’t be against keeping him around.

also like the fact he’s a dirty player and got a fiesty side.we need that and now we have him and Bruno.

Hahahhahahaha

What a truly bizarre post.

All of us, including @kouroux said Cavani was an excellent signing, in those posts you quoted.

None of us are in here saying we were delighted we didn’t get Sancho or delighted with the window, why are you making up some utterly bizarre strawman bullshit?

Talk about taking shit out of context. We thought it was a shame about Sancho being priced out but we didn’t wet the bed about a clearly good signing in Cavani because of it.

You on the other hand wet the bed @0le, even responding to a poster that claimed Cavani is a better number 9 than Martial with this corker....

This opinion is so wrong that it makes Trump look right.

Here was some extra stupid bed wetting..

Good signings in isolation except for Cavani. I can't see how he will be a success but we shall see.

Don’t try lumping us into the bed wetting crew with you, we all knew Cavani was a good signing, cause well, it’s Edison fecking Cavani ffs. :wenger:

Truly bizarre indeed. I was talking about something else entirely

Never doubted the guy, on the rare times I've seen him playing for other teams he's always stood out and his work rate has always been phenomenal.

Such a fiery character, can only imagine he's a really good guy in the dressing room too.

Read the first page of this thread for some festive fun.

With VAR ? yeah, he would.

VAR, still no.

Mina clearly is pinching/squeezing his hip, Cavani clearly tries pushing him off, Mina squeezes harder, Cavani pushes more, Mina takes a dive.

6 of 1, half a dozen of the other. A nothing incident and certainly not a red card offence. Are you forgetting the ref was looking right at them?

Edison Cavani has had a superb impact on the squad, unsurprisngly so in my opinion. The questions were about fitness, and his approach (does he really want to commit for this period in his career.. or just pick up massive wages until the Summer..). But he has always been a superb player, great attitude, and a splendid Centre Forward. A true No 9, runs the line (some may know what that means...), and provides the critical point of all of our play.

He has class, experience and pedigree. He makes a positive impact on the players around him, and opposing defenders do not want to play against him.

Cavani has highlighted the deficiencies in Martial's game, and I mean the complete game as a Centre Forward. Cavani will help Rashford and Greenwood immensely, as well as the midfielders, and Defenders as he will give them a target to hit. Martial does not do this, and a No 9 HAS to be a focal point for his team.

In big games, I play Cavani, all day long. Martial should be a substitute at a club like ours.

Another real positive I noticed last night was Mason's "Cavani like" movement in the box to the near post header that hit the post - I can see all 3 of our other strikers showing this extra dimension to their skills and how good could they become together as a foursome ?

Ole must make sure that Cavani remains fit and capable of many more game changing performances - probably off the bench on Boxing Day although he will be tempted to start him with the potential ban incoming and therefore a good rest !

A great signing and perfect if we can get Haaland to replace him in the summer or even the following summer.

I know it's an overused word when speaking about Cavani but his movement is a breath of fresh air, one of the most infuriating traits we have with our attackers is how static they can be, waiting for a pass, they've got a bit better over the years but still when you compare Rashford and Martial's movement to Cavani it's night and day, such an intelligent forward who just has that predatory instinct,

I really hope Greenwood studies this guy in training, i don't want to jump the gun but i already see improvements to his movement and i wonder if that is him watching Cavani, he nearly scored a fantastic header last night that was very Cavani'esque
