Edin Dzeko

be interesting to see him in a league where defenders and keepers dont give up... that guy who keeps feeding him all these great passes, sign that guy.

He's left for Galatasaray sadly chris.

I was surprised that Steve Mclaren wanted to sell him and buy Diego instead.. If a system ain't broke don't change it!

I was just looking at this comp of his goals from last season (He has 7 in 10 so far this season) and there is a fantastic array of finishes.

He's a very good player. Surprised we didn't consider him more seriously.

I think the price and the fact he'd have to be willing to sit on the bench in our big games are probably the main reasons we didn't; b/c his style and quality aren't in question.

He's good but we don't need a striker. Should we go for a striker i'd expect it will be one that is capable of playing wide as well.

With Dzeko's obvious qualities it will be very difficult to leave him on the bench. He is a throw back to the days of the big strong centre forward plus he can be a bit too.

Berbatov was on the bench because he was not good enough last year when Rooney was on song. You think he is Berbatov whining and complaining all the time? He can actually be really helpful with headers and with him and Rooney playing upfront or with Rooney and on the left and Dzeko upfront on his own, we could have a formidable attack.

Going alone with the Ole topic here's something from RoM:

A fond memory of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for many reds took place when Manchester United hosted Newcastle at Old Trafford.

Before that match, United had been top of the league for 6 months, but now, towards the end of April, we were losing our grip on the title. There were three matches remaining after this match and it was must win.

United went a goal behind after eleven minutes before David Beckham levelled the score with his head before half time. 1-1 wasn’t good enough and United needed a win if they were going to fight off Arsenal to win the league.

Solskjaer was brought on with ten minutes to go, like usual, to try and win us the match. However, it wasn’t his attempts in front of the Newcastle goal that helped us that day.

With a couple of minutes left to play, United were determined to get that all important winning goal, and threw all their men forward. Beckham played a ball in to the box which was cleared faster than anticipated.

Rob Lee bombed after the ball and would eventually be one on one with goalkeeper Raimond Van der Gouw, certainly confirming defeat and a titleless season.

Solskjaer was the fasted player back though and caught up with Lee, swiping his leg out at the Newcastle player and tripping him. He knew he wouldn’t get his foot to the ball in time to stop a goal being scored so tripped up the player instead. This seemed to sum up his attitude as a United player, prepared to take the punishment and criticism for the sake of the success of the team.

However, Ole has reflected on how Sir Alex Ferguson view his act of self-sacrifice.

“I stepped out of line and he put me in my place in front of everyone,” said Solskjaer. “I was called into his office next morning and had to pay a fine. He wanted us to win but he did not want us to cheat. He didn’t want to be associated with that and he was right.”

I agree with the basis of what you are saying although the idea of pushing Rooney left in a front 3 always seems to get a negative response here.

Dzeko looks like he'd suit the Prem and has enough technical ability to fit into our play as opposed to being solely a battering ram big man.

Manchester City blow: Edin Dzeko in Real Madrid sights with Emmanuel Adebayor as back-up | Mail Online

Real Madrid are ready to battle Manchester City for Wolfsburg hot shot Edin Dzeko.

Bernabeu president Florentino Perez is ready to splash out in the January transfer window after seeing his team humiliated by Barcelona.

Jose Mourinho had already been eyeing a new centre forward, but a potential two-month lay-off for first-choice Gonzalo Higuain has given urgency to landing more than just a squad player.

Real Madrid are considering Emmanuel Adebayor, but the unsettled City striker is very much a second choice to Bosnia and Herzegovina star Dzeko.

Roberto Mancini wanted to sign the prolific 24-year-old in the summer, but Bremen were asking a prohibitive £40million.

Juventus and Bayern Munich also want the 6ft 3in target man, but the entry of Madrid into the bidding adds another dimension.

Dzeko would be open to a move, but Bremen would want at least £25m and a deal in the middle of the season could push the price even higher.

Madrid are also looking at Werder Bremen's Hugo Almeida, Athletic Bilbao's Fernando Llorente, Anderlecht teen sensation Romelu Lukaku and Atletico Madrid's Diego Forlan.

Lukaku, 17, is also being tracked by Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal.

We really don't need another striker

That or else Fergie has always had faith that Berba would blossom this year, which looks to be the case.

If Rooney cannot be played on the left, I would love to see him just behind Dzeko like the way he played most of the game against Blackburn. And if we have Scholes and Carrick behind Rooney, that is a pretty formidable lineup.

Really dont get all the fuss about this lad to be honest, looks decent but hes hardly someone id expect a club to fork out upwards of 30 million for, when he played against us last season he scored a decent header at the back stick at Old trafford but other than that i wasn't overly impressed frankly, he certainly didn't offer much in general play, was pretty poor in the away game to especially considering we had a bunch of midfielders at the back in the game in Germany and he still didn't threaten much.

Not surprised hes been linked to City, they have a recent history of signing overrated crap for huge sums of money:

Lescott
Adebayor
Barry
Milner

What a pile of wank.

What the feck is 'b/c'? Please don't tell me you wrote that shit in place of the word 'because'; nobody's that fecking shit and retarded.

But Fergie tried to buy Benzema and Villa while keeping Berbatov so I'm not sure that is a factor.

It will be interresting to see if Rooney plays in that more withdrawn role tomorrow as Fergie had been keen to keep him as the most advanced striker, if Rooney goes back to the deeper role it may well change things when the bigger games come around.

.

He scored in both games, not just at OT, and that was his job -to score goals.
You can't remember that he scored, but you remember tiny details, like his "general game was poor".

He got subbed in 88th minute after missing a pk during the game. Refused to shake McLarens hand. The fans think he's been playing worse and worse because he's unhappy and should be sold for less than 40mil, since that's too unrealistic.

A bit unprofessional by Dzeko, but he shot himself in the foot when he signed a new contract with that outfit. He might have a right to be pissed off if they didn't honor a verbal agreement to let him go though...And McLaren is a retard for substituting/humiliating the only player who can score even when playing badly.

So Madrid's team next year could look something like this:

.........................Alonso...........................
.........Di Maria...Ozil...Kaka....Pedro Leon.......
......................C Ronaldo..........................
Higuain...Llorente...Dzeko...Lukaku....Benzema

He's simply too expensive. Cracking player, excellent finisher and very good at holding up the ball and in the air, but we wont be in the running since he'll almost certainly cost more than £25m with Wolfsburg valuing him around the 40m Euro mark.
Our strike force bar Berbatov is quite young too - Rooney (25), Berbatov (29), Hernandez (22), Macheda (19) and Danny Welbeck (20)... so there basically is no need for a new striker unless Berbatov is on his way out and Fergie decides to loan Macheda to another club.

I'm not convinced that Kiko and Welbeck will make it with us in the long run - and with Berba pushing 30, we may well buy another striker in the next year or so. Not sure if Dzeko would be available or even appropriate for us, but its a possibility.

We won't. Berba can last another 2-3 seasons(top form) at least. Rooney will stay on for a few years at least until he hands in another transfer request. Hernandez will be around as well. Welbeck will make it with us.. and Kiko might as well. Short-mid term, 3-5 seasons, we won't need to get anyone else in.
