I just dont think he has that drive anymore, more like last big paycheck move.

Plus it's very rare for a 28 yo not to decline naturally. He might still be a class player but i just dont see uim as the 100m worth player for long

Ronaldo says Hi!!

£130m with only 1 year left on his contract and 28 years old, well done Chelsea! Wouldn't call it a steal at all but looks like Real are going all out and not caring about age / contract length etc, it's a summer of spending to overhaul the squad.

Woody would have sold him for £50m and paid off the last year of his contract.

Woody, see Chelsea and now do the same with DDG!
Madrid are going to be a force again.

I do not think he is going to decline. Zidane also came to Madrid with 28 or 29 and could have played one more season.

I think situating him in the context of last year is wrong. I think we are going to see a completely different version of many players, and not the withered version of last year.
For years we had no top signings and I think people will receive him with great enthusiasm. (I wonder if he will be capable of filling Bernabéu in his presentation?. Something like this would be fine too :
)
The fact that he has shown so much will to come will also bring him many sympathies.
The only way he could be criticized is if he had the careless attitude of many players this season.

I'm looking forward to seeing him in combination with different players. The left with Marcelo, Benzema, and even Vinicius, and hopefully Isco. I also wonder if he will play in a totally free role in the attack, on the left or in the center.

How is that Chelsea have been able to sell hazard for that amount whilst having just one year remaining in his contract, we only the other hand.
I guess woody will some day drive Pogba to Madrid for 10 million pounds.

Because their fans isnt like us calling everything deadwoods and wishing a clearout every year. It does drives peices down

Who cares if he has one more year left on his current deal, 88 million is a very good deal for Madrid. Plus Hazard is world class and they can afford it. Hazard had always wanted to join Madrid and increases his chances for more silverware, so win-win for both parties.

Off course he wont magically dive into a cliff. But he'd fade out in 1 or 2 years tops like most star signed at 28.

Not sure why many are saying it's a good deal for Chelsea. 88 million fee and add ons for Hazard is a very good deal for Madrid. No one knows what those add ons are, for all we know it might be for winning leagues and CLs, in that case player is worth it.

Hazard is worth much more than 88 million for Chelsea. Without him their attack is few levels worse and they might not even sign replacement with transfer ban.

Decline eh? Don't make me laugh. At Chelsea it wasn't even his final form. We're going to see the real hazard now.

But if by decline you mean the treble next season with him winning the Ballon d'Or the year after, then yeah. He'll decline.

Is it worth getting Bale foe a season or two while waiting for Sancho to join, pretty clear Sancho won't move in this window and Bale on the right would be an upgrade for you, maybe take him for an Ibra amount of time!
It’s not worth getting Bale for any period of time now. He’s turned us down one too many times and I feel he goes against what Ole is trying to build.

When was the last time Utd sold their best player? All hail Chelsea/ Liverpool/ City - they do everything better than Utd.

All of things won't happen, he won't decline though. The caf is weirdly obsessed with age

It really is. There are thousands of posts here with the “don’t want xxx. He’ll be 30 in xx years” Absurd considering that some players, specially technical ones, play their best football in their early 30’s.

It might be important for a smaller club that then wants to sell on at one point and then recoup some of their investment. But for clubs like us or Madrid, as long as we get results on the field that’s all that matters.

I honestly wouldn't want him at my club. At 28 the player will start declining soon and has little motivation to do well having already won everything already. I know people will quote Ronaldo as an example of the contrary. However Ronaldo is one in a million, a person who constantly want to win stuff. Hazard doesn't strike me as having Ronaldo's attitude.

On paper a good deal for Chelsea but I doubt any Chelsea supporter is happy about it. Huge loss for the club and the league. Only Messi leaving Barcelona would be comparable to this in terms of impact.

I think that's something to do with Manutd players declining in the late 20s or early 30s.

Rooney declined early
Schweinsteiger was signed when he was 31 and was poor for us
Sanchez looks completely done when he was 29
Matic

Maybe that's the reason. Every player is different but it's not surprising that caf is worried about players age.

At 28 they're basically getting him at his peak, and all he's done so far is get better and better. And the guy has never had a proper injury, which usually means a player lasts longer before declining. It's a lot of money but it's worth it for 3-4 years of a player like him.

Put it this way, if the market was like this when we signed a 29 year old RvP, he probably would've been 60-70m at least too, and I'd still want us to get him, even though we only got a year or two of him at his best.

I'd understand the worry if it concerns a Utd player we're signing but this id Hazard for Real Madrid. His fitness track record id excellent. Caftards are weirdos

Yeah, Hazard is worth it.

Why didn't Real Madrid wait one more year? They could have saved £88 million or £130 million. No matter how rich they are, that's still a lot of money. Hazard has flirted with Real for so long and its a no brainer he would move to Real after his contract ends.

Because they want to be good now, not in a year. They'd need to pay £50million or so in agent fees and signing on fees if they signed him next year too, considering that's what the likes of PSG and Juventus would probably be offering, and would need to pay higher wages too I think.

A trophyless year can cost them more than that.

He’ll probably look even better in Spain where he’ll get more space and time on the ball.

Great signing for Madrid, huge blow for Chelsea.

Meh Hazard has made it so publicly that Real Madrid is his dream club so he won't make it difficult for himself if his contract ends and it's always the agent's job to protect the interests of the player so irregardless of the agent fees, I highly doubt it would be anywhere close to the reported fee. Hazard is always going to get a high base salary anyway. I guess its probably more of due to the fact what the poster said below you, a trophyless season could cost more.

Florentino needed a big name to appease and placate us. He's the biggest name available right now.

Still not Mbappé though. Think that's what i'm gonna call him from now on, not-mbappé :wenger:

We were discussing the state of the team without Hazard and Ronaldo respectively. Ronaldo did give his best years to Madrid, yet he won more here than Hazard and Chelsea.

Oh gotcha. Also no doubt he won more with UTD that’s partly what makes his departure worse. Ronaldo leaving marked the end of United’s dominant EPL run. No doubt you’d have won more EPL’s and a couple CL’s if he stays.

So greedyyy

How many players in the past 6 seasons have had a world class season in our club?
Clubs are not interested in our players because we don't have world class players, or rather consistent players, Bar De gea and Pogba could be a close call.

Almost to the day!
Its a great deal for Chelsea
Hazard has been by far their best player for them for the best part of the last decade, though. He's basically irreplaceable, I'm not sure how getting a good fee for him means it's a good deal. Ask any Chelsea fan and I'm sure they'd have preferred him staying vs 100m that they can't even spend.
