Ed Woodward has resigned from Manchester United | 2024: Returns to football

Madness. Why is he leaving? Surely the Super League is something the Glazers were pushing for, rather than Woodward?

I agree with you a little, but he stands for them, and has stood by them. Whether he's sacrificing himself or being pushed or whatever, it doesn't matter, he was still complicit, depsite being an employee technically.

And in all seriousness, he's been universally shite and shirt sponsor logos.

Could Ed have pushed for the Super League (seeing it as a way of making £££'s) now it's all blown up in everyone's face, he sees the potential hit to sponsorship due to reputation loss, so has no option but to walk?
Well he would have carried out his masters' bidding but clueless as he is about football masters, he didnt gainsay his American paymasters

Haaaa what a day! Slime ball masquerading as a man. See ya later you incompetent cnut.

We are still a way before they sell. They aren't selling the club in this depressed market. I think we are at least a year out from a sale if it happens.
Will the failure of the ESL hasten their plans, it probably will but not any time soon.

Is it a depressed market at that level though?

People at that level are impacted but we are stills seeing acquisitions worth billions in the tech industry for example right in the middle of the pandemic. Right now it is fair to presume it is not long until matchday revenue returns, restructured Champions League and the teams performance looking more settled (5th, 3rd, 2nd with a young side).

Have to say I flagged this going wrong for them. Now consider this - Woody was JP Morgan’s man - the Glazer seventh child and guru of “soccer”. Morgan’s rep on the line - big share damage done - invisible pain for rich people. Overplayed their hand. Could mean big boardroom upheaval.

Please replace him with van der Sar!!

Also, I'm not clued up on this but, could Woodward have helped the Glazers sell being Vice Chairman or Chief Executive?

Odd we are hearing word of Woodward going without having given an indication we are pulling out of the Super League abomination

Oh my fecking god!

I lied before, this is the biggest win of the season!

I just hope he isn't being used as a scapegoat and this is a sign of the ends for the glazer ownership!

Congratu-fecking-lations to every United fan around the world.

What is going on?! Craziest days in football since I've started to follow it

Pretty sure even if it was the ESL they won't say it. Not everything can be said to the media, they need to cover things up regardless. I'm not saying that it must be due to ESL debacle but if it was due to it, they wouldn't have said.
Most definitely. The ESL definitely played a part in this announcement and most likely in Woodward getting sacked. Him leaving basically means that the Glazers are cashing out, too.

Murtough/Fletch got ripped to shreds. Giving it to Nev would cause uproar here.

What do you expect? Murtough was part of the same staff who kept messing things up throughout the past 7 years. Fletcher on the other hand had like 40 minutes coaching experience under his belt. The snake just paired a well loved but inexperienced person with a specialist in failure and he expected the fans to just trust them

The "was set to step down" has to be damage control.. I was leaving anyway.. I swear. feck off you cnut.

this news hits exactly when the ESL is crumbling and they are pulling the "that was always the plan" stuff. Riiiiiiiiiight.

He's the fall guy here. Stepped down from his position at UEFA which means United no longer have a voice in a competition he thought we weren't going to be playing in anymore. His position was untenable now we're not backing out of the CL

The Glazers wouldn't be the ones to do the negotiations.
He's the CEO. Business strategising is down to him.

The Glazers obviously sign off any major decisions. But they're not responsible for the dirty work.

CEO or not, I would’ve thought the Glazers were the primary driving force behind this, it, it completely stunk of them and Joel was even the ESP VP or whatever. Crazy if this is Woodward falling on his own sword.

Will El Presidente Florentino Perez be going on TV tonight to address these latest developments? Just to build on his appearance yesterday, it would make sense.

Woodward falling on his sword, a Glazer man right to the end. Pathetic attempt to divert attention away from the owners who are actually responsible.

Tech companies operate in a different market. We are about to post record losses. My opinion is if they wish to sell, they will wait for some post covid recovery.
