Dr Dre - Detox

Not sure if this is Detox, but it leaked today:

Edit: turns out this is really old (sorry), there's a leaked version of Eminem and Nas and that's meant to be new.

Theres a video of dre and just blaze thats been doing the rounds for a couple of weeks, dre shouts "im coming, 4/29"

So april 29th it is

I loved 2001. I hope this isn't Hip Hop's Chinese Democracy.

Wouldn't be a good thing since Chinese Democracy was like 10x better than anyone expected it to be?

I like a few songs from it and it wasn't a particularly bad album. The problem was that it was never going to live up to the hype and a lot of people slagged it off and it didn't sell very well compared to the bands previous efforts. It was also the most expensive album ever made.

Saw the video for I Need A Doctor on one of the music channels last week, I like it.

When did Dre become such a fecking beefcake?

He's always been on the beefy side, but that's probably he's continually put Detox off - he's been hitting the gym solid since 50 dropped "In Da Club."

Seriously though, he's gotten huge! Crazy build for a guy entering his late-forties.

See LL Cool J...

Oh and I've given up on this album.

Yea he was always big, but Jesus!

Don't get me wrong, Dre is by no means the biggest for his age. Look at Stallone, he's nearly got over nearly 15-20 years on the likes of Dre and LL Cool J.

I know what you mean about giving up, I had for a while, but the fact that he's released new material that appears that it will feature on the album fills me with hope.

I can't imagine there has ever been this much hope for an album.

"All I see is Slim
F-ck all you fairweather friends
All I need is him
F-cking backstabbers
When the chips were down, you just laughed at us
Now you bout to feel the f-cking wrath of aftermath, faggots"

Brilliant

I Need a Doctor is a good song but it's not what I'd expect from Detox and sounds more like something off Recovery, Kush is your typical Dre track.

feck me, the roids, Dre is a monster.

I Need A Doctor is terrible though, hope the album doesn't fall under the hip pop mistake like Recovery/Relapse, and Jay-Z....Just give us a damn rap classic.

I agree I think it's a weak. It's like some emo/Evanescence type power ballad. The beat besides that isn't very interesting either, it's about 3 notes on a piano under some very aggressive tinny drums. Not a big fan. And that's before we get to the lyrics which, and I'm not quite sure how to put this, are all a bit gay...I means it's cute and all, but it's a bit of a fanboi wank frenzy isn't it? You put that song on in a club without the vid and it just sounds like a gay love song. Which is cool, but I very much doubt what they were going for, plus I just don't find it nearly as interesting or affecting as I'm presumably supposed to. It's not exactly Dear Mama is it? He lost his son FFS during this interlude and he's rapping about how "all he needs is slim?"....eh?...Nah, sorry, pass me a sick bucket. It seems like the kind of thing that'll appeal hugely to Eminem's female fans, I'd stretch to call it hip hop personally.. I don't know why, it just doesn't feel like it.

Plus he didnt produce it, and as we all know he rarely if ever writes his own raps, so I'm struggling to see what, if anything about it is Dr. Dre, apart from the heavily inflated man in the video (Jesus Christ he's huge!)....

I'm sure it'll be big, cos it's got a catchy corny chorus with a girl singing and people love that shit...But I find it distinctly meh.

Kush is pretty decent if you ignore Akon.

I'm starting to think Kush is wack, dre has got to come harder than that

And this is as good a vindication of that opinion as you're likely to come by.

both those tracks are pretty shit really - would be a shame for him to ruin his legacy by releasing more crap like that.

'I Need A Doctor' is okay, but not what I want to be on Detox. Sounds like it belongs on 'Recovery'.

Unfortunately, the album has been hyped for so long, it'll never live up to expectations.

People hope for 2001 v2, but I don't think it'll happen. The majority will be disappointed given the time lapsed IMO.

Im going to ignore the fact that this album was ever released and just listen to The Chronic

I need a Doctor isn't Detox material. 400 songs produced and he puts that in the album?

Eminem has lost his character and potency as a rapper IMO and 'The Eminem Show' was his last decent album. His rapping now just sounds angry all the time and he doesn't pull it off the way he used to before. The forever remix was decent but he's lost that fun side to his rapping that people were attracted to.

absolutely agreed, spot on!

Mr Prescription is horrible.

I'm also pretty sure that they came up with the whole I Need a Doctor video concept because it's become impossible to get Dre out of the Gym. They booked a week of shooting on a boat, or a pool house, or a club, or whatever other bollocks, but he just wouldn't leave the fecking gym, in fact he never stops working out, such is his feverish and compulsive desire to become the living embodiment of one of those foam Superman fancy dress suits, so they re-wrote the whole concept of video to allow him to spend the whole thing in the Gym....It's so bleedin obvious when you think about it.

Aye, if I'm giving Em a spin I stick to Infinite, Slim Shady LP and Marshall Mathers LP (and maybe the odd track off of The Eminem Show). Everything else he is just repeating himself, drugs fecked him up.

It's as if he shouts every time now in his songs. Compare I need a doctor and love the way you lie they both just sound the same to me. Even something like The way I am was an angry type song but it sounded good. How many artists remain consistent after they peak? Eminem had the right formula and he changed it for the worst.

As for Detox, I'll wait till I hear it all but so far he's failed because he's hyped this album so much that it would have to top 2001, my favourite album .
