Douglas Costa?

Would love him here. At his best he can destroy any full back in the world.

Wou be thrilled if it happens!

Martial and Rashford they aren't wingers . They're strikers. Costa could play either left or right but right is better if we're going to play the 4-3-3. Upgrade on both Mata and Lingard

For the foreseeable future Martial or Rashford are going to play off the left, they could actually be competing for the spot if we keep using Lukaku as a #9. Costa might well be better than Lingard and Mata on the RW but he's not very good there regardless, it's stupid to buy a player who is much better on the left because crossing is his best attribute, and then stick him on the right. This would be another rushed buy of an ordinary player, the next 5 months should be about this current squad and getting a DOF and manager in place before wasting any more money. We also don't need a pure basic winger, we need a fluid front 3, the game is changing.

What are the chances of luring erikson with pochh? If ever pochh was available.

Aye, I’m as big a Douglas Costa fan as anyone on here and I’d love him at United but you do raise some very good points.

He's a different option to anything we currently have on the right. If we can get him at a good price (given Juve no longer need him), then it seems like a good idea to go for him.

Not for sale, he has played so little because he's been injured from September to early December, he will soon start playing more often.
Allegri is managing him the same way he did last year, he wants him at his best starting from February.

He's 28 so basically on his last legs. Strange that the caf would want him.

I understand that he has improved quite a bit at Juventus but at Bayern he was bang average. He had his good scenes, especially he was a great long range shooter but his decision-making, his 1:1 abilities and his ability to read the game were not what United needs to improve. If the deal goes through, I would be surprised if this turned out to be a quality signing.

He's nothing special and especially when played on the RW, his best work comes on the LW when he can put crosses in quickly on his natural foot, that is the spot where we deploy our best two young attackers, it would be a nonsense buy. We shouldn't be buying in January, lets see what we get out of this set of attackers in a different system over the rest of the season.
Doesn't matter - we dont have a winger and Costa would br an instant upgrade. We should start looking for bargains as well as we will have bigger priorities in the summer with the new manager.

If he doesn't work, take a hit and ship him off in 2-3 years. Not really a huge loss considering we spent only 35m

We don't need a winger, the attacking width comes from the fullbacks in a properly coached system, the best teams in the top leagues operate this way and there's no way we should be benching Martial or Rashford for a run of the mill touchline hugger, he also wont cost £35M, try double that, Juve aren't a charity and he's on a long contract there. He's not good enough or what we need, certainly at a time when we don't even have a manager, if for instance we get Poch we'd have no use for a Costa type in the systems he utilizes.

I get he has question marks but is there a better winger we can realistically sign?
Our chances of signing people like Dembele, Sancho are slim to none.

I'd go along with the narrative of many...……..inconsistent and with only a temp manager in, is a danger the new manager wont be a fan and we'll have yet another deadwood member on insane wages we cant sell.

Majority of times I've seen him he's been on the left too - so not an out and out RW, and we already have too many players used as RW when they aren't natural there.

Probably one to avoid

Was such an overrated player after some ok performances for Juve. Wouldn’t want him here at all.

Feel Costa is our new Wesley Sniejder/Pepe/Gaitan.

Anyway, what's the point in bringing in new players when we don't have a permanent manager on-board nor a DOF ?
Please United ,can you stop being stupid.

City width comes from Sane, Mahrez etc so there is still room for the out and out winger in top teams . Bayern Munich still rely on the Robbery and will be looking for replacements. I guess it depends more on the managers philosophy. Guardiola likes wingers that are skillful one on one but manager like Allegri prefers to play with two up top and hardworking midfield leaving the attacking threat to come from Alex Sandro and Cancelo. If it is indeed Pochettino there's no point then but I'd still like a winger if we're getting someone else. Maybe Malcolm is more attractive option? He's younger and is getting no game time at Barcelona.

Question is if we do any business without a permanent manager on. Might be very quiet in the January transfer window.
If we wish to remain competitive we have to. We have to utilize the window. It would put the squad in a much better position if we sign a CB in January. Meaning we only need a new DM, LB and Winger in the summer. Or sign a winger in January meaning less strain in the summer. Whatever manager arrives in the summer it is irrelevant. The squad has to continuously improve. Managers do prefer their own players but having Alderweireld already at the club is better than Jones/Rojo and having Costa is better than no winger.

But how do we know the new manager would like a wide player,or even a CB as mad as that sounds.

Personally,I would be happy with a quiet January window.Get the boardroom and behind the scenes sorted.Try to get the deadwood moved on and possibly bring in a few youth players into the first team squad.
That'll be fine for me.

Don’t think Chong is ready, yet I’d rather see him get some game time over signing Costa next month. Just doesn’t seem a logical signing time wise.

Seems very risky to be making any transfers with a temporary man in charge
What if Poch doesn't like whoever comes in
(or new manager!)

Sane is hardly playing right now and Sterling and Mahrez cut in all of the time, much like how Robben and Ribery are inverted with the overlap from the fullbacks creating the attacking width. Costa is a pure touchline winger, ok if you don't have a fullback that can attack but on top of that he's very inconsistent and at 28 that isn't a good sign, you expect the inconsistency to be ironed out by then, on top of that he plays where Martial and Rashford play, and if we move to a front 2 system then Costa would have no purpose for us either, I just don't see him as making any sense right now, at least if he was a RW specialist I could see some case for him. As for Malcom, I don't think he ever looked good enough and Barca wont sell him to us cheap, but like I say the problem with any of these attacking buys is that we don't have the manager in yet, until we do we shouldn't be buying expensive players the new manager might not want in his system, it's not like buying a CB as every manager plays with them and the ones we are linked with are clear quality that any manager would want.

I don't think we can include a Darmian + little money deal, since Cancelo has been on fire for them.

While Douglas Costa can prove to be a good buy, but I'd rather we go for Hirving Lozano, he has glimpses of Luis Suarez in him, can easily become a super star under right management.
