No buildings being bombed in Cork. Its a lovely part of the world

As said, I never visited the place. Its evident that my memory had played tricks on me. Which is strange as I am quite sure I read that interview.

eane himself said that he grew up in a dangerous area were buildings would be bombed to smithereens while kids like himself were playing football.
Where has he said this? In his autobiography he said he used to lie in bed when like a lazy prick watching east enders when he should have been at school.

From what I've read since yesterday;

-He's not much of a ball progressor. He just looks to pass to ball to a teammate quickly in a clear passing lane.
He doesn't attempt many line-breaking passes. Doesn't tend to get involved that much in the Build-up/Progression Phases.

-So it doesn't sound like he can play the Pogba role. (Main ball progressor/Primary deep playmaker). Not sure if Ole'll use him
in the Matic role either, because it'll limit his off-the-ball prowess.

-Like it's been said numerous times in this thread, his main quality is his intelligence and off-the-ball movements. One of the best
in that regard. He scans the pitch and is aware of where his teammates are. He "attacks the space" vacated so proficiently.

-His best offensive work is in and around the box. He uses his great movements and quick flicks to create dangerous situations.

-Basically he needs great passers to find him in those pockets of space and he'll do damage.

Oles vision from the start was to have two mobile deep midfielders to work in a double pivot.

I don't think he's going to change his vision in the long term.

I think we'll see a lot of midfield variation this season, but I think VDB will take the role Mctominay held at the start of last season (legs beside Pogba)

I don't remember that specifically. Its evident I unintentionally messed it up. I apologise.

We've got two games a week for pretty much the whole season, don't we? I don't think we are really going to have a starting 11. There will have to be a lot of rotation.
This is why it is Crucial we get in some more players or else we will be knackered by December

Although I’m sceptical of his ability it’s a good price. His wages will likely be on the modest side too and he’s undoubtedly better than our midfield depth currently.

Can't see him coming here over every other club to sit on the bench. He's clearly going to be in the starting 11.
If we talk about the 2 teams he's been linked with most frequently outside of United, I don't see him being guaranteed a guaranteed starting position at Barcelona or Madrid. Probably what Ole can promise him is being one of 3 players for 2 roles in a busy season meaning he'll most likely play some part in every game.

He’s going to get plenty of starts and opportunities. Injuries are inevitable. Drop in form is inevitable.

I like his anticipation and positioning when attacking off-the-ball. JS Park was really good at it, as was Scholes.

I am a little confused that we haven't addressed other areas of the team/squad as a priority. I feel like Ole trusts Fred and McTominay more than our other squad players, so signing someone in their position feels strange. Especially when the players ahead of him, are arguably two of the best in our first 11. I haven't seen enough of him to pass any judgement on his ability, but at his age, price and reputation, it could be a shrewd piece of business.

It's going to be a long season, we need reinforcements, hopefully more to come.

I think you mistook him with Vidic. It fits perfectly.

Yeah I think it's Vidic alright:

"I remember when the bombing started and for the first month we were too scared to go out and play football because we didn't know what was happening. Nobody knew where the bombs would be.
But after a month, people relaxed a little more and they realised the targets were military and government buildings, or bridges. "

it could be the case

I sincerely apologise for the confusion caused.

If sealed, looks like a great value signing. However it looks like he will have to quarantine for two weeks. The Netherlands is not in the exempt list.

Forgot about all that shite  That will complicate late signings even more. if he tests negative, maybe he doesn’t ?

It's a bit like that time you were ranting about Ole only signing British and Norwegian players just a few months after we signed Bruno.

You'll probably still believe it though, even after we sign VdB and Thiago.

I hate to break it to you but Keane played for us prior to Ole becoming a manager.

I am glad we're changing our strategy though. VDB is probably Ole's alternative to Grealish and a signing which was suggested to us by VDS just as Bruno was suggested to us by Ronaldo and James by Giggsie. However I believe he'll be a far better player to him. Let's hope we continue on that course. There are top quality players out there on the cheap if we bother searching for them.

Not sure what this has to do with it. I was merely pointing out another of your factual errors in recent times.

At least this time you held your hands up and admitted the error.

Unlike the time you said Ole only targets British and Norwegian players while a Portuguese player that Ole signed was tearing it up in our midfield.

I must admit that I haven’t seen much of Donny first hand and the majority of my opinion is based on YouTube highlights and that video of his Real Madrid game performance.

I think he is made to look very good at dribbling and shooting/assisting because of the very poor Dutch league level of defending.

The one thing he obviously has got going for him is composure and that is great. He doesn't get phased easily, knows what he wants to do and times his execution. I hope he adapts to the Premier League quickly as opposition will not give him even half of the time he had in the Eredivisie. In the Madrid game video it showed that he takes too much time and misplaces passes because of that.

Positionally, he seems like a proper CM and is played in the advanced midfielder position against teams where he needs to contribute defensively.

The comparisons with Bruno are difficult, in my view, as Bruno is much more of a high risk, flair type of player. VdB's creativity is on a much inferior level, from what I've seen. That's not a diss, just Bruno is incredibly creative and tries a ton of things.

On a side note, looking at those compilation videos.... Defenders in the Dutch league are very bad. I'm more and more convinced that when it comes to CBs, the premium for buying a PL-proven defender is well worth it.

Looked for some videos of how he fares against PL defenders.

Scored a goal against Spurs:

Goal vs Chelsea:

Here he is against some other not so well-known EPL team:

Those are some of the few games I've watched him and I agree that he's good. It's just that if you compare his technique, vision and creativity in these 3 games to the highlights compilations, it's night and day. And that is because of the level of defending. I'm super positive about this transfer and think he will be a great addition, just do not expect things he did against Eredivisie teams.

Van de Beek (pronounced Bake), means "of the Brook", as in stream.
Beek = Brook
Now if we sign David Brooks, we'll have Brook & Brooks.

VdB is another attacking midfielder, with decent defensive qualities. He's not a DM.
More a replacement for Pereira and/or Lingard.

This one has actually surprised me - I rate him highly but was sure we'd want someone like Partey as a priority. This will either be a masterstroke or a complete disaster because on paper VDB - Pogba as a double pivot does seem very defensively open and you'd assume Bruno will continue as the free roaming AM.

He's only 23, people will need to have realistic expectations if he does come here and not be calling him out after a few games because it will be a big step up in terms of game speed and overall physicality.

That's him basically playing as a #6 similar to how Carrick operated. Will be interesting to see if we will use him that way since it would take away most of his forward runs and goalscoring threat. I suspect we will try it against lesser oppositions.
