I can't see him coming here to be a squad player.
Real Madrid had him lined up for 50m pre-Covid and Barca had recent strong links to him too.I am very uncertain on van de Beek, but I’m positive for the signing because he’s a very hard worker, we’ll like that. Why hasn’t he moved prior and why isn’t the competition stronger? I guess the clubs around Europe have the same thoughts, his numbers aren’t highly impressive... playing for a mammoth in a small league, can he apply the same in England? The same could be said about Bruno Fernandes, but that was perhaps more about the high price - we knew he had shooting, free-kicks, all of that.
Is Donny making it or is he on par with Davy Klaassen? I guess we’ll find out, I at least have high hopes for him becoming a good squad player. I have maybe seen 10 full games including a few in the Eredivisie, he’s a runner and an honest player. Good shooting and positioning in the box.
Barca are too busy falling apart at the moment.Real Madrid had him lined up for 50m pre-Covid and Barca had recent strong links to him too.
Have Madrid signed anyone yet?Real Madrid had him lined up for 50m pre-Covid and Barca had recent strong links to him too.
I’ve always wondered if coaches ever ask new players about training methods at their last club and integrate some ideas. Like they all probably do the same basic drills, but there must be some things that are unique to managers etcIf there's one photo that illustrates Ajax's technical individual training methods it this one.
Getting mentally ready for us to feck this up
We very, very obviously need someone we can rotate with Fernandes and Pogba. Are we collecting midfielders now? id rather we spend the little money we have on a new CB.
I hope Ronald Koeman is sersiously thinking about hijacking what looks like being some smart business by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
No, and they seem unlikely to as wellHave Madrid signed anyone yet?
Then they'd be financing Liverpool's move for ThiagoPiss off and go sign Gini Wijnaldum.
He could work in the PL, just maybe not at a club with our aspirations, it's way too early to write his PL career off just like that. Being a RB is the worst position I can imagine for him, it's not something a player resort to because he has no choice, it doesn't happen by luckThat he’s been poor at LW and RW for the most part this season, and would never work at striker in the cut and thrust of the Premier League. Therefore, I can only think of one more position which he can feasibly play in (see Young and Valencia). If he fails, then it’s time to leave as two seasons is more than enough time to adapt.

Not signing a midfielder this window would be suicide. I'd argue we actually need 2 midfielders because Matic's legs won't hold forever. We'll be looking to sell Lingard and Pereira, we might even be able to recoup money by selling one of McTominay or Fred, we really don't need both.
I honestly think too many fans think it’s like playing FIFA. As if a player is useless if they don’t get into your first eleven. People don’t understand the concept of “squads”. Look how many minutes Lingard, Pereria and Mata got this season. They aren’t first eleven but they played a lot in total. The obsession with a clear line between starting 11 and squad player is over the top. Our starting 11 is far away from the extraordinary fitness and injury record of the likes of Becks or Ronaldo when they played for us. If he is not a starter from the beginning, he will be as soon as someone in the midfield gets injured. And even if by a miracle everyone stays fit, still hardly anyone will start every game next season.
Think he'll eventually find his feet and end up having a very solid Prem career in the Matty Etherington mouldHe could work in the PL, just maybe not at a club with our aspirations, it's way too early to write his PL career off just like that. The likes of Mahrez, Bernardo, Jesus, Foden must all be useless players too as they didn’t get into the starting eleven last few years.
Out of those three, Fred should be the last one pwe get rid of. I'm not a huge fan of either Matic or McTominay.
All white texts look the same anyway.
Diamond set up only works if you have really strong attacking fullbacks, which we don't. Our set up needs quality wingers as our fullbacks are very defensive.Maybe i'm too influenced by fifa career mode but buying this kid would give us a great midfield diamond setup with good, not great, cover up. Would also make Sancho a luxury signing rather than a must signing. I'd certainly prefer Sancho but with that said i like the thought of a jack of all trades midfielder like van de beek.

I agree we need other areas of strengthening such as the right wing. But I honestly believe Sancho will happen. Transfers never happen in priority of need. One of our problem positions was always a CM as well. VDB is a great solution to that problem. No solution is going to be super cheap. If it was, then it means the player probably isn’t very good.Unfortunately Lingard or Pereira was a starter before Bruno arrived and to make it worse, because Pogba was injured sometimes they both played.
Having a good squad is needed but spending money on squadplayers while the first 11 could use a new right winger, left back and maybe a midfielder to compliment Pogba and Bruno seems a bit strange.
A diamond would become very ineffective for us as you need really good full backs who are as good as wingers to use that system. AWB would give us very little threat down the right. Every team will know all our threat will be narrow and central and will just pack the central areas with bodies.Maybe i'm too influenced by fifa career mode but buying this kid would give us a great midfield diamond setup with good, not great, cover up. He's coming here to compete and will get many games.I can't see him coming here to be a squad player.
Agree. People dont seem to grasp that concept on here that there is usually around 15-16 players who share the games between them over a long seasonHe's coming here to compete and will get many games.
Yes I see your point, and it would be a risk. however we've successfully been playing AWB and Shaw/Williams higher up the pitch in tighter matches using 3-5-2, e.g. against city away. Although I'm not convinced by AWB's attacking qualities at all the stats were showing he was on par with rafael in assists this season. Thus i wouldn't rule it out.A diamond would become very ineffective for us as you need really good full backs who are as good as wingers to use that system. Yeah but add the obvious briefing from the club that we are interested, together with Ajax themselves saying a transfer is in the process = it would suggest it's pretty advanced. All that’s been said is that there is Interest from United, nothing more.
The reason I believe it worked well in those particular games such as City away, Chelsea away, Liverpool home is because of the opponents set up. They gave us plenty of space to run in behind which is where our threat came from. Pace on the break down the channels.Yes I see your point, and it would be a risk. however we've successfully been playing AWB and Shaw/Williams higher up the pitch in tighter matches using 3-5-2, e.g. against city away. Not many on this forum understand this. Maybe it's the whole video game culture where you can always play your best players without them tiring.
I dont get this transfer unless we are going to change our formation to say a diamond midfield but that aint going to happen.
Aren't Sport a Spanish paper, how in the hell would they know that?
