Don't call me Shirley
He seems like a young, confident experienced technically sound all-round player who has a crisp short passing game and great awareness, which looks to be his strongest attribute. Wants not to like ?
I imagine we could get updates pretty soon. A player doesn't get omitted if things aren't gathering paceAt around £40m I’d say we should do it. I think he’ll be a good signing. Villa can go spin if they £80m for Grealish. I‘d rather take the £40m difference and put it towards getting Sancho over the line, and a whole new player.
Its mental how a 25 year old whose never played in Europe, never played internationally and has more appearances playing in the second tier than the top tier is worth £80m but whatever...
And like some have already pointed out...if he’s being omitted from a match day squad then he’s pretty close to moving.
I'd prefer Grealish and even signings in other positions first, yet Van de Beek is a player i like so won't complain at that price.
Here's Ajax' van de Beek song. We should bring that too when he comes.
Song starts to take shape around 0:14
They're still here though.Bruno - Pogba - Matic is clearly our first choice. I'm assuming VDB - Fred - McT are meant to be our quality depth options for each of them respectively. Which is great because all 'backups' are good enough to warrant a starting spot when on form.
Also, this means the end of Lingard, Mata, Pereira who are clearly not good enough to be even squad options.
But honestly in my opinion this seems like a ploy by Ajax to hurry Barcelona or any other buyer in Europe to make a bid. The muppet in me knows that United can't do a deal quietly and we would have known for a long time before if we were bidding for this player. But would be a great addition if these rumours are to be believed.

I want him for that chantThat song is class!
Let’s not use this to jump on Pogba like every other thread, I bet you right now that Pogba will get better numbers in a more reserved role.I think if we do sign him than Pogba is not going to get a big pay rise if he renews his contract....he does not deserve it anyway.
Yeah that’s my point. The fact he can’t play DM means he’s a bench option. He’s not a CDM at all, he’s more a “box-to-box” like Pogba, Fred and McTominay - those are his competition, Matic has none as it stands.
For people that have seen him regularly, is he better than Fred? I started the thread about selling Pogba because I felt that he didn't fit the role we want him to play, which is where I think VDB does play. Maybe the club feel the same.
I don't get the feeling that this is the level of player I was hoping for though. We need somebody that can orchestrate the whole team midfield like Scholes used to. I feel like this guy is more Fred/Herrera level. Works hard, decent, tidy player but not got the authority to be the main man in there for us.
Will probably be 20 years before we get that player again. For people that have seen him regularly, is he better than Fred? I started the thread about selling Pogba because I felt that he didn't fit the role we want him to play, which is where I think VDB does play. Maybe the club feel the same.

It's interesting because a lot of the Dutch followers have given outstanding praise to him, I wonder why you think he fails to improve our XI tooWill probably be 20 years before we get that player again.
VDB seems a decent rotation option, above average player to rotate Bruno and Pogba. Depth signing.
If your looking for an improvement in the starting 11 see the Sancho thread. That’s the only player we are linked with that actually improves our starting 11 when all fit.
Grealish can play CAM and on the left. At a push he can drop back, he really can’t play on the right. VdB can cover Bruno or Pogba. If he is the right player for Ole then let's get him. However, if it's just because he is cheaper than better players then it's just a waste. It's mentality that brought us Dan James.
Sancho is one of the best and can play left and centre as well as right so could cover Bruno too. He is guaranteed to be a hit, would either stay for the rest of his career or would be sold at a profit even if bought for what I see as a easonable fee Dortmund want.
Grealish can also cover Bruno whilst also giving needed competition to rashford whilst he is out of form or when he is needed up top. He can play on the right to fight it out with Greenwood as well as drop back potentially. He is a leader and premiership proven just waiting for the step up.
Don't go for the cheap option. Go for the one who will be here in years to come because they were a good buy. Nobody remembers keane, Ferdinand, rooney or ronaldo being the huge fees they were at the time because they seemed a bargain in retrospect.
I think it's more like €40m. £36m. I prefer him to Grealish. At around £40m I’d say we should do it. I think he’ll be a good signing. Villa can go spin if they £80m for Grealish. I‘d rather take the £40m difference and put it towards getting Sancho over the line, and a whole new player.

We have Paul and Bruno? Unless you think a DM can run the modern game I cant think of a player that would satisfy you to he honestFor people that have seen him regularly, is he better than Fred? Tend to trust the people who watch him regularly, and they're full of praise for him.
It's a no brainer signing, and if anything too smart for our usual activity over the last 5 or so years.
We fecked ourselves over with the Maguire transfer. If he was worth 80m up front... no wonder Villa are demanding something similar. At around £40m I’d say we should do it. I think he’ll be a good signing. Villa can go spin if they £80m for Grealish. I‘d rather take the £40m difference and put it towards getting Sancho over the line, and a whole new player.

I agree with the general point, have to keep in mind that those matches you talked about already partially fall to Bruno. Would have to look at the statistics after his arrival.Andreas started twenty five games last season and came on in seven. Lingard started twenty two games and come on in thirteen. Now ask yourself what if it was Van De Beek making these appearances. Good signing.
So much this. He’ll be great in our team.Andreas started twenty five games last season and came on in seven. Lingard started twenty two games and come on in thirteen. Now ask yourself what if it was Van De Beek making these appearances. Good signing.

I don’t really understand this transfer unless we’re also filling the positions that are higher priority, like CB, Full Backs, DCM, RWYeah that’s my point. The fact he can’t play DM means he’s a bench option.

But then we have to look at how gassed Bruno was towards the end of the season and how many games he would have been rested. Also if what people say about VdB’s ability to play a bit further back is to be believed then he can also come in for Pogba. With the amount of games we can play and rotation we actually need to do, you could see him starting 30-40 games whilst being second choice.I agree with the general point, have to keep in mind that those matches you talked about already partially fall to Bruno. Would have to look at the statistics after his arrival.
He will pick us over spurs.Spurs selling Ndombele, wouldnt rule them out
I would rule them out if we are in for him. No way he chooses Europa league football and Jose Mourinho as managerSpurs selling Ndombele, wouldnt rule them out
It's not hard to understand. Van De Beek starts if Bruno or Pogba are not playing or starting. If either Pogba or Bruno get injured, the back ups are pretty dire.I don’t really understand this transfer unless we’re also filling the positions that are higher priority, like CB, Full Backs, DCM, RW
