You can't judge much from pre-season games. Generally youth players look better than senior players during pre-season as the senior players are trying to conserve energy and avoid injuries while the youth players are using it as an opportunity to impress.
He's not Ronaldo or Bruno, a player who doesn't have to prove he is able to play at the top level. He's one of the worst signing we've ever made, the guy played maybe 3 good games in two years time, he's got another chance under new manager to show his worth to the team and you say he might conserving energy in pre season games. That alone should be a reason to sell him to whoever is interested.

Should never have been signed, because he did not fit the playstyle of the time. Incomprehensible.

What‘s up with the bollocks of conserving energy? I‘ve watched both games, there were no passengers.

DvB was played up front in his Ajax role, which I don‘t think the other players are used to yet. Let‘s see what happens. The fact that Ten Hag is putting him in at all means he‘s not written off yet.

For all this dreaming about selling him back to Ajax, the only Eredivisie club that could actually use him is... Feyenoord. Maybe we can give them a package deal for Chong with that Malacia money?

I remember fondly when Ole played Donny in midfield with Fred and Bruno in the CL. We played some glorious football that game. Ole then decided that that football was forbidden and Donny was banished to footballing purgatory. Farewell sweet Donny

We won 4 1 Grande. Out of posts but they were glory days or that was a glorious day.

Was it that game we lost 2-1 to Basaksehir, or was it the one before that?

I think it was the other one, but regardless, the result isn't related to Donny playing, when a goal came about from players being unmarked on set pieces in an empty stadium. If only Ole had eyeballs and could yell at his players...

If this is not about Ole, I do remember Donny in both games, and I remember the uplifting feeling that ‘this could really be something’ from the first, and the disappointment of ‘he’s really quite far off’ from the other. As much as I like Donny’s style and wanted him to succeed for us, he was neither overlooked or hard done by. I think one would need an agenda to claim that.

Still, I have hopes he could be very useful under Ten Hag, if not necessarily a starter for most games.

I really don’t see it with him, not athletic enough ,no agility, not a lot of pace haven’t seen any shots from him and hardly ever seen a long ball from him. We’ll see eventually might end up being a good squad player nothing more than that.

You just don't see the genius in his movement as he passes backwards and runs into a space that takes a hollywood pass to be reached :wenger:

luckily we have at least 1 Hollywood passer in Eriksen here and with De Jong hopefully the second

I think they're like the Italian BILD. Bit of a rumour mill with enough hits once in a while to keep them relevant.

Van de Beek at Feyenoord

I reckon he‘ll stay and get a chance to find his 2019/20 form.

I don't think he will ever make it here. Isn't he supposed to be used in a swap deal for Benacer. Better if it was Sangare.

Would try to include him in a deal for Antony.

Was watching the latest training vid where they're doing the rondo drill... He's with the 2nd team group (along with Bailly/Telles and all the youth players). First team group is all those you'd expect plus Malacia as well. Guy isn't even part of the main group during trainings! I can him leaving before the end of the window.

He's in the B team during the pre season games. This isn't news.

Bennacer is meant to be pretty brilliant I think, a machine of a player. Sounds good to me.

So is Malacia, yet Malacia was training with the main team. The only players part of the B team that weren't youth players were basically guys that are listed for sale. It's pretty notable IMO.

I think Ben maceration isn't good enough to be part of a title winning campaign but as a swap, I guess why not.

It doesn't bode well for donny that even his old manager doesn't rate him.

I'm trying to think of a top player or even a very good one (at the highest level) whose only standout ability was movement? People joked about Lampard but outside of movement and goals he was a very good footballer just didn't fare in comparisons to Scholes etc. Muller maybe but his goalsforing / end product has always been terrific.

Dele Alli back before all the injuries when he played for Spurs. Pretty much played as a second striker and he had fantastic movement and finishing. They had a couple of seasons under Pochettino with a fantastic team, but zero depth. Their attack was lethal though with Kane, Son, Alli and Eriksen.

But Dele Alli pretty much made a career out of his movement. He would just pop up and score goals out of nowhere. It’s probably also why his career is completely derailed. When your biggest asset is your movement then you are kinda fecked when you lose it to injuries. He just looks slow now. When he was younger he always looked like he was one step faster than the defenders, but now he looks like he is a step behind everyone…

He seems like a nice guy but I hope he's moved on and given another chance elsewhere. I doubt this move will work out and that hasn't always been his fault, indeed most of our transfers haven't been stellar.

He's not a guy who's never proven himself at the highest level, he was a big part of Ajax's 2018 CL run but he's not fit in nor proven himself at United in the few chances he's had. I think he's good enough to play in a champions league side outside of England.

What's more is our signings and recent XIs seems to indicate that he isn' t going to be more than a fringe player. If ten Hag thinks he can contribute so be it but he's barely played football since joining and he's about to enter his prime.

Not even Ten Hag seems to rate him, he's barely played. Not a good sign.

He’s had two dreadful seasons. It’ll take more than a familiar face as manager to build him up again. A bit of patience will be needed with him, I reckon.

Surely my lack of football knowledge, but I've never really understood what role he plays/can play? He's can't seem to dribble, tackle, make long range passes, intercept, shoot accurately or even take set pieces. I think he can run long distances without getting tired, but he's in the wrong profession for that. His link up play is half decent if he plays with the right set of players, but he's so limited that players aren't bothering to enhance play with him. Hopefully he morphs into prime Lampard and proves me wrong this season.

He is good at being one that creates spaces for others or sees spaces opening up for shooting opportunities. A reactive player rather than a creative one.

I think he has to be in a specific setup for him to be successful.

So which historical player can you compare him with? I can't seem to relate him to anyone (maybe Lampard without the physique or the drive).
