Asia Janay Lavarello served 3 months in prison after she admitted to having removed and retained numerous classified documents, writings and notes (marked CONFIDENTIAL or SECRET at worst) relating to the national defense or foreign relations of the United States without authority. It would be quite fun if Trump was condemned by a law he passed during his presidency.
Now that the GOP realized Trumpism is only going to lead them to a certain demise, he'll have no support from influential members of congress. He's open to any backstabbing since it's pretty obvious that he's going to cause more trouble than anything else.

My read is Garland had to do it now that Trump is officially running for POTUS. This absolves DOJ from being viewed as if Biden's DOJ is prosecuting Trump on Biden's behalf (which is obviously not true). Farming it out to a special prosecutor was pretty much the only chess move to counter Trump's own chess move of announcing, which was obviously done because he thought it would shield him from imminent DOJ indictment.
