The way this draft goes, you'll get Garrincha and I'll get Pele. Luxury GOATs but we really don't need them now.

The rest will bitch and moan about how lucky we are, but only we know we are creating unbalanced teams forced to pick players in same positions.

Imo, you and me are the most unlucky managers in this draft :(

Never played a chain draft before but must say the sense of suspense and the fact that you can still grab a GOAT player even at the end of the drafting process is pretty awesome. Keeps the interest high throughout.

Probably going for a 4-3-1-2 and understandable considering finding the right wingers at this stage can be tricky. Carlos is probably perfect too if that is indeed the case.
 
Littbarski, Boniek and Cryuff are probably about to get the perfect player to play with.

Got a set formation in mind that I want to build. I picked Vidal solely hoping to pick up Schweinsteiger. Made my draft more fun aiming to build something without knowing if I'd get the shot at the players I'd need.

That defense is looking impressively strong even against these GOAT attacks. Really like that Neuer pick for the tactical flexibility he seems like best fit with these players.

I'm sure I'll change my tune if I play you, but it annoys me how little credit Evra gets in these drafts. There was very little between him and Ashley Cole at their peaks, yet Cole is a regular and a solid performer here and the fecking Utd great seems forgotten about in comparison.

I've gone with a theme of having absolutely no idea how I'm going to line up. Individually I'm happy enough with the quality of my players, but I'm not really feeling anything for this team so far.
 
If Evra is underrated in these drafts, then it would be because:

1. he is a contemporary player. See the opposite case of Luis Monti.
2. his track record with France

The problem is he was absolute shambolic in his last couple of seasons with us. You knew Evra was the easiest route for the opposition. Cole never reached that level of dip.
Sure they were both great at their prime, but Evra's frustrating end at United has a lot to do with rating him.

Think the issue is that Cole as a pure defender was probably the best left back of his generation post Maldini whereas Evra wasn't quite as good defensively.

Then when we compare them attacking wise for me Evra was far superior in terms of dribbling, flair but because of his poor end product in the final third - he wasn't quite top tier as an attacking full back either. So what we got was a very well balanced full back who I certainly wouldn't have swapped for Cole but in drafts where specialists tend to do better than all-rounders in fictional teams where voters like things clear cut - tends to reflect badly on his actual prowess as a player.

Evra was by far the more exciting left back IMO and world class at build up play down the left. Cole on the other hand was very keep it simple and bored the feck out of me and also a very average crosser of the ball too.. so I didn't rate him much going forwards.

Yeah and I was linked to Cole as well. I think Cole has a great reputation himself and it stems primarily from defending against Ronaldo but yes, Evra at his prime was a force of nature. Played every game of the season and was excellent in providing width - which would be useful for me as I'd likely play a back 5.

I agree with this. His later years really hurt his resume and was shambolic at times defensively. A bit like Neville in his later days.

Full backs attacking contribution often gets a bit underrated, especially when there are some lapses defensively. Take Marcelo for example - picked him once and he was really underrated due to his defensive contribution, and the way he is so important to Real's attack - overlooked.

Aye, on the first point he's often (and fairly to an extent) criticised for his lacklustre crossing, but then watching older matches I've seen plenty of other highly-regarded full backs lumping their share of aimless balls into the box too. His flaws are defintely clearer in our minds as most of us will have watched loads of his matches.

I think that Cole was somewhat fortunate in terms of reutation that he was simply dropped when he began to dip, for Azpilicueta at the tail end of his Chelsea career, then at Roma where he barely got a game. I'm not sure about this but I vaguely recall hearing that he looked very ropey in the MLS too. Evra by contrast was worked into the ground for us long after it became clear that his legs were going, and to his credit he did experience a bit of late-career revival after leaving us.

Good post, although I don't think there was that much between them defensively, and to give Cole his due credit I remember him being a bit less boring going forwards when he played for Arsenal.

Aye, he was as consistent as it gets in terms of providing width, and before decline set in he was brilliant at recovering his position too when we lost the ball.
 
What wouldn't I give for the prime Evra in our team now :(
I actually rate his best as better than Irwin and Cole.
