Absolutely massive fee for a player most people won’t have heard of, it is a huge risk. But Liverpool don’t seem to mind taking risks, they are spending huge. They’ll be a real threat in the Europa League next season

Insane fee, not a sure thing and a strange profile of player with the issues they have. Hate to do it, but I feel the reaction if we were spending this much on someone like this would be very different.

That might be because "most" people are rather ignorant when it comes to football outside a few big clubs.

Klopp did mention they'll be bringing in players who most fans will not consider as a good signing but will help improve the team. Won't be surprised if he's been extensively scouted by Liverpool for a while. Him and McAlister should sort their midfield issues this season.

I feel like they went for him because Mount had his heart set on United.

He is a really talented player……hate to say it but could be a really great signing…….

Not really ignorance, just that most people don't have the time to follow every league and player in Europe.

As I predicted, last year revamping forwards, this year revamping midfield. They will be fresh and better next season, that's for sure.

Meanwhile us being struggling for signings. :nervous:

The people from the same league watchers say he has stagnated in the Bundesliga whilst the people that watch him less are raving about him.

I just don’t buy this narrative of struggling for signings:

GK
Dalot/AWB Varane Martinez Shaw
Casemiro
Bruno Mount
Antony ST Rashford

Based on the above I think we need a ST and a GK this window. Arguably a RB or a CDM/CM too but so far it looks like we’ll have Onana signed pretty soon which leaves only ST as the major hole in the squad.

Any CM/DM we sign would be a back up player and I can’t think of many RBs that would be nailed on successes.

The signing of Mount for me makes me think we’ll leave RB for another window and keep the defensively sound AWB and work more on Dalot as an inverting RB.

The forum seems very split on this guy - the usual split on 'world beater why were we not in for him' and 'bang average'. Given he price paid I would much rather have had the PL proven Mount if he can overcome his injury problems from last season. I don't think he is the tye of player MU need, particualrly with Mount, Bruno and Eriksen already in the squad.

This season Liverpool have lost:
  • Keita (who was always injured and never played)
  • Oxlade-Chamberlain (who was always injured and never played)
  • Arthur (who was always injured and never played)
  • Milner (who could play anywhere)
Given that they have replaced 2 of those already with players who are rarely injured and completed circa 32 games each per season, they have undoubtedly strengthened and given themselves more flexibility by having none injury prone players but will still need to invest if they are to move forward.

He’s a good player and talented and whatever. But this seems like an overpay. Don’t think he’s as special as the fee would suggest.

Yes, that went very well.

Signed him on FM once. Poor man’s Beckham (or rich man’s JWP). Good player, although at Liverpool it feels like they already have TAA who can do most the things Szobo does.

Honestly why the feck are you signing Mount? He is such a meh player. I’m surprised you didn’t go for Maddison for the price.

Its not surprising, he was available and was easy to sign yet none of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manutd tried to sign him and all of them wanted Mount.

How come when Liverpool want a player they just go out and sign him, no fuss in the media, no 1st, 2nd, 3rd bid, no preparing a bid etc, no month of media speculation etc etc

Is it Liverpool are just way better at keeping things in house and have better negotiators than United or are the media just obsessed with everything United might be doing ?

I'm sure I'm wrong but I do feel that some people base their opinions of players based on computer games.

This has been the way for years, I'd also add the foreign name application too if this guy was in the PL playing for Leicster under the name Stephen Phillips or something there would be x10 more negative posts

Nope it’s just that as a United fan you’re biased and are mostly exposed to United news

I’m surprised by this. To be honest I’m surprised by liverpools signings in general over the last 12 months.

Like Bellingham you mean? Or Mount? They eventually got VVD but even that signing was quite the saga. They got the Nunez deal done easily last summer because nobody else was daft enough to pay what they paid for him.

This summer their two signings have been easy because the players had release clauses in their contracts which not many other clubs would be willing to pay.

Because United news sells more than Liverpool news.

Liverpool were in talks regards MacAlister since end of March, so it took them two months or so to get that one over the line, it's just no one was really that bothered in the media to make it big news.

We heard nothing about this until the day his release clause was due to expire and when we did, he’s set to sign and it’s too late for another club to get involved. If this was us, it would have been trailed for weeks and other clubs would have been involved pushing the price up in a bidding war

Massive improvement to what they’ve got. Him and Mac Allister will improve their midfield massively. Hope he’s another flop though like Nunez

Yep they’re mobilising, strengthening their squad whilst we sit and watch. At least we’ve signed Mount.

He was very highly praised when he was playing in Salzburg, many clubs were after him. I think he is a great player, but i'm not sure he is Liverpool caliber yet. He might get there, but I feel that 70m pricetag is paying for his future development. He is not worth it at this point IMO, but he might be in a couple of years.
Don't think he'll be a Keita v2, he has got better attributes to succeed in PL than Naby did.

70m! I’ve never even heard of him, let’s hope he’s another Sabitzer, Werner or Keita who can’t translate Leipzig form into the PL, eh?

Watched him a few times over previous season no more than a handful. I still think his best position is as a advanced 10. Technically really good. He could be what Odegaard is to Arsenal not stylistically but perhaps linking the midfield to attack. It undoubtedly leaves Liverpool as a top heavy side. I still think they're owners are average but the difference with them compared to the Glazers is there's good football people under them. People saying they've never heard of him in my opinion they are the best signings. Some of City's best players of this current era all relatively under the radar Dias, Gundogan and Rodri. This epitomises what scouts are for.

Mount excels at nothing, just seems so bland. Where does he fit for n your midfield with Bruno?

The idea is to play him as a no. 8 alongside Bruno also as no.8 ahead of Casemiroas DM, holding midfielder. The reason eth went for Mount was, one of his biggest strengths is pressing and work rate. Not really Maddison's thing. But Maddison will do well too.

They made 2 signings, we made 1...
Neither they're revamping, neither we're struggling.
