Divock Origi

Going to be a real handy player this lad although I get the feeling he's going to be one of those done everything right but didn't put the ball in the back of the nets striker. Feel he lacks a bit of composure in front of goal.

I think you have to look at his progression, the fact he's now a regular for the current excellent Belgium team (scoring 3 goals in 11 matches), and his progression as a 19 year old ( 1:10 2012 season, 6:35 2013 and 4:17 plus 2 assists in 2014) all the while bearing in mind that as a 17/18/19 y.o youngster he's only started about half of those matches and also been subbed off as much as subbed on. We shouldn't be claiming he's going to be a world-class star (even though half a dozen top players/managers have said just that), he's not exactly prolific yet either (though he did score 10:19 for Belgium U19s in 2012/13), as there are lots of excellent youngsters that fail to take the next step up, but this kid looks to have an awful lot in his locker.
With a slight blip along the way, not unheard of for many youngsters who go on to become very good players, his progression has been linear. Now, under a manager renown for developing players, with both substantial physical and technical development plus improved match awareness, he is becoming a very valuable member of the squad. If he continues like this he is going to be some player by the time he reaches 23/24.

just ready on time for Madrid or Barca to come calling

Really great to see him progressing like he has the last month or two, he just needs to tighten up his passing and have a bit more composure infront of goal and we'll have a super player on our hands.

I think he looked very impressive last night. You can tell the confidence of the first team players are rubbing off on the whole squad. The style of the side didn't change at all, the pressing was quite as relentless and the attack wasn't quite as clinical but Liverpool fans will be very happy with how some of the backup players carried themselves last night.

Origi and Sturridge will be disappointed not to be given a good chance in the first team after those performances.

Yeah Origi looked better as the game wore on - not really surprised he tired a bit tho, he has hardly played.

He was doing really well until a certain cnut from Everton "tackled" him last season - he has struggled to recover his form since then.

When he is on his game tho, the talent is clear - hopefully he can stay fit and get some regular game time, even if its only as a sub for the last 20 when we're tiring.

Firmino is our best option as a forward so it's slim pickings for the likes of Origi and Sturridge at the moment.

Origi had a really good second half last night but I think his touch let him down at times. He's got time on his side though and I'm sure he'll get another chance in the quarter finals.

As you can see in this thread (on this page even), I have a lot of time for this youngster, and he does have time on his side. It was a lovely cameo last night and he was maybe a tad unlucky to have a fine shot tipped over by an even better save. However it is quite clear that we are at our best with Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana and Mane as the front four. This will make it really difficult for either Sturridge or Origi to get into the team barring injuries. Of course generally if that happens Sturridge will start and Origi gets his spot on the bench. However personally I'd select one of them based on the opposition because they have very different qualities.

Hope he isn't injured, he's a bit of a crock. Need him and his goals while Coutinho is out. Wonder what the French media are making of the 'worst footballer in all 4 French leagues' 2014?

What do you want them to make of him, he had an awful season in 2014 and has been given a satirical award by one paper.

You're supposed to support your own players not deliver the biggest of putdowns.

If he can turn into a not-quite-as-strong-but-faster version of Heskey ca 00/01 I'll be delighted.

Has he always been this size? He looks a lot taller/built when I saw him today.

So did his team and they are just as responsible, no player can do it on his own. However I'm going to repost what I said above from last April : I think you have to look at his progression, the fact he's now a regular for the current excellent Belgium team (scoring 3 goals in 11 matches), and his progression as a 19 year old ( 1:10 2012 season, 6:35 2013 and 4:17 plus 2 assists in 2014) all the while bearing in mind that as a 17/18/19 y.o youngster he's only started about half of those matches and also been subbed off as much as subbed on.

He has never been singled out, there are several nominees and it's not a serious award. Also I don't remember anyone relevant claiming that he wasn't going to develop into a better player.

His father was very good for my national team. For a minute when he burst onto the scene all Kenyans deluded ourselves that there was a chance he would chose us over the Belgian team

He's been scoring at a rate of 1 in 120 minutes this calendar year. Big talent.

Was fantastic for us last year during our Europa league journey. Then he got injured.

With Phil out, and with him getting 2 in 2 games hopefully he can rediscover that form

Still like this kid (nearly 3years later). Has the potential to be a proper centre forward - a modern one with speed, strength, skill and improving finishing.

Sludge has completely fallen off a cliff it seems, and Origi is the better option.

I swear this guy is laughed at by all Liverpool fans but he's their Hodor. Genuinely criticized by all fans yet gets all their important goals.

Probably the best shit player we've ever had.

Was twice at the right time in the right position and only had to shoot at goal to be honest. But he has scored twice, so fair play to him.

His Macheda moments. Will disappear when Salah and Firmino return.

Fair play to this guy, top mentality. He's been the silent hero of this Champions League campaign for Liverpool.

Reminds me of the impact Ole had for us back when we were good.

Winning goal against Everton, goal against Barca, goal against Spurs.

Last year this guy was mocked for being sh*t at Wolfsburg, now he's a UCL winner :wenger:

Ole could play though. Origi is a strange one.

I would like to see him have an extended run in the striker role. He was once bigged up as a better potential than Lukaku and to be honest, his touch and control look sound, so his dribbling but I don't know much about his finishing and linkup play, considering the fact that Liverpool lacks creativity hence, he will always stick out like a sore thumb when compared to Firmino who's got more to his game than just scoring. Firmino will likely contribute better to Liverpool's attacking play, as regard to creativity.

I always fancied him as a player, since I first saw him. Think there’s a proper player in his there.

Just goes to show their luck this year, he is an average player they would probably sell at start of the season if anyone was interested, but somehow ended up winning them a CL this year. Will probably end up at West Ham in two or three years maximum.
