Diogo Dalot | Done Deal | Speaks better English than Valencia

SSN say they'll be doing a player profile on him at 8pm

Doesn't matter, one mistake and he is on the bench. Valencia, on the other hand, will still play every game and offer no crossing abilities.

(I am actually surprised Lukaku got as many goals as he did with the lack of quality crosses into the box.)

Does he want to take the risk and not play until on occasions, or go to a club of the likes of Tottenham where he can be a first-team regular?

He does have potential as he looks like a solid defender and creative as an attacker. Only 19 years old too.

People were saying the same about Aurier last year. He went on to show an exceptional capacity for conceding penalties and not a lot else. The obsession with crosses on here is just weird. How many full backs in this league are great crossers?

Even buying young talents become a transfer saga for us. Looks like the real deal this kid

You’re a fun positive chap and I wish more people were like you.

I'm not necessarily critical to this signing but to suggest it's a low risk because of the low fee is a bit simplistic. We were sat watching our main rival get both Walker and Mendy last summer while we didn't strengthen the full back area at all, presumably because we had 'low risk' quantity that we didn't manage to offload (Darmian, Blind).

From his highlights he's clearly got a good cross on him and he likes to get forward more like a winger.

If we do sign him he's an attacking option and we could use Valencia for games we need to defend more. In that way this signing makes sense and an attacking RB is what we've been crying out for.

A much cheaper alternative to Fabinho and Sidibe. Possibly a better attacker than Meunier in the future aswell. I hope it's true now as there aren't many clear options out there as right backs.

Is he good enough to potentially replace Valencia and go onto be a top class right back, or are we just replacing Darmian in the squad?

The dude is on the wrong side of 19 though. We should only be interested in young talents.

Legit didn't know he existed but hope it ends up well obviously

Everyone knew about him even before he started playing for Porto's first team. He'd played in the B team and been very good in a few tournaments for the youth teams.

Da-lo

Thanks for the info, his signing seems imminent so I hope he does well for us!

Fact is that TFM ended up third choice RB for Palace and I don’t think anyone that supports Palace would argue that was some weird managerial oversight, it was what his performances warranted.

Got a very decent name on him – could turn out to be a brilliant piece of business.

I don't understand this transfer. If he's coming to be an understudy for Valencia then why not just recall TFM? What does this mean for him then? Probably the club will see him as a DM. Otherwise it doesn't make sense. If he's coming then it has to be to replace Valencia. We can't go another season with him as first choice.

Why not? I think you'll struggle to find a more consistent right back that is available to buy in world football at present. He had a good season, the fullback positions imo have been scapegoated because of our less than stellar attacking performances as a whole. Young was good too.

I think this transfer makes complete sense. It's a relatively small investment in a player by all accounts has great potential. When purchasing in football, if there is a player that fits the mould then you buy him, worrying about what it will mean for other (also 'unproven' at present) players is in some ways a regressive mentality. Young players either sink or swim and having competition will only help cream rise to the top. I also don't think that RB is as big a priority for next season as some perceive it to be.

I'm just going to borrow a post from the first page of this thread:

Yea ok fair enough but I didn't mean that post as a Mourinho slate. This is just one of the main reasons why I don't think this a good signing for us and we need to go for a more established player. We really can not go into next season with Valencia as our main rightback and there is a good chance of that happening under Mourinho if the alternative is a 19 year old kid, talented as he may be.

Best realistic scenario is the kid develops into a worldclass rightback in a season or 2 and meanwhile we will still see alot of Valencia. For me that isn't good enough, I don't want to see alot of Valencia anymore in the next 2 seasons.

He seems both footed, fast and can cross. Immediately gets into our starting XI. Youtube scouting, done.

I haven't seen him play.
Is he better than other young right backs like Odriozola or Pavard?

Can't wait to see him run down the right, get to the edge of the box, check back and pass it sideways .

Can’t believe I’ve just read through all these posts and nobody has said how Mourinhos negative tactics will eventually turn him from an attacking right back to a goalkeeper who won’t even come off his line.

Definitely going for Bale if we’re looking to scrimp on a rb. I like it.
