We’ve had transfers like that, also look how quickly Liverpool signed Fabinho.

I think it’s ok for transfers to take a while it’s just that when this story broke it was as if it was basically a done deal, even BBC reported it. And like a week later almost and nothing since...
The only difference is that there were no leaks with the Fabinho deal. You can't assume the reality of a transfer negotiation based on what the media are able to report.

Why is this 'Done Deal' not done ? It seems like everyone is taking it for granted that it's in the bag, but as usual we seem to make every transfer a drama.
There's a couple of possibilities. First we could be haggling about the price and payment structure. Second he could be a This seasons Morata. Where we get the safe deal all but shored up while pressuring our main target behind the scenes.

It's a possibility. There was a story going around during the January transfer window that we had to sell before we could buy.
I doubt it is a financial issues in needing the money to buy, but more about if we sign someone without off loading first we either lose our bargaining power with the buying club and get less money or end up with too many players in the squad .

£20m I think we can afford that before selling. Plus we have gotten a few huge wages off the bill with Rooney (last summer) and Zlatan Carrick and soon Fellaini this summer plus hopefully Darmain Shaw Mata.

That's what I think the problem is.

Manchester United: Jose Mourinho will be told to sell before he can buy in January
I only said it could be and that the BBC had said we needed to sell before we could buy just before the last window. From what the BBC was saying it was more down to wages than transfer fee. yes we have got some big hitters of the wage bill but we also brought Alexis in on huge wages.

My reasons were, haggling over payment structure or that he's this years Morata and we're actually have another target in mind for his position.

OK I'll change the question, if it's a formality, why is it not done ?
Genuine question, the same applies to the nailed-on Fred transfer.
There are 2 and half months till the start of the season. There's no need to rush.

Fred came to England a week ago and was with the Brazil squad in London. He is in Liverpool for the friendly and will stay for a few days. We'll probably get that done then.

Because transfers take time to conclude and you have absolutely no idea what is going on.

Usually commitments, or sorting the minor details. Like the stage between contract exchange and completion when you buy a house. Fred has been with the national team.

Problem is that it's 20M that Porto has to receive from the clause. Due to IRS and other stuff it's closer to 40M for United that's why they are still negotiating.

My guess is that he will be confirmed tomorrow.

I know nothing about him apart from what I’ve read about him from Porto fans / Portuguese people, and he is highly rated by the majority. Exciting transfer in a way.

This kid hasn't played that many games for Porto, or represented the Portuguese national team yet, so I don't think he's being signed with the idea of being a starter at RB/LB next season. So we still need to find a new RB who will be first choice. Shaw for me should be first choice LB.

I doubt we will go for another RB. Valencia and him will do just fine.

If it's taking this long for Dalot, LB Alex Telles is going to drag on forever.;)

he's a piss poor defender. next question

Smalling is not poor, get your head out of your ass. As a pure defender he is excellent, he goes in front of every ball and wins almost every header. As a passer of the ball he is however limited, so he will never be great.

This isn't the Smalling thread guys
