Diogo Dalot | Done Deal | Speaks better English than Valencia

19? So that means in 11 years he'll be 30 right?

On the decline!

How does one pronounce his name ? Da-lo or Da-lot ?
Doesn’t matter you won’t use the name Dalot.
Plus Mourinho will just pronounce it Dalo-t in a boring practical way. Pep, Klopp and Poch would have coached the D into an H. Halot the the beattiful.

Seems like he has the potential to be a top buy. I don't think Mourinho wanted to bring in a top class RB. Firstly because I still think he trusts Valencia an seems him as the main RB for the next season at least. Secondly, who are the top class RB's out there that are a clear upgrade on Valencia?

He's gone for the potential option but also someone who could become a first team player next season and take over Valencia. If the kid hits the ground running which he has the potential to do according to his reports and his minutes at Porto, then he can outgrow Valencia and any other RB that we are linked with who would cost upwards of £30m and expect a first team place straight away which would complicate things with Valencia around.

In addition, if we keep Shaw around and he bottles it again next season, then this lad can cover at LB as well.

Has a French name though.

Damn, he looks like Southampton Shaw to me in terms of quality. I'll take that.

Remember watching him against Liverpool. Saw him as a young player with pace, very good spacial awareness, decent passing range and good in the air, big strong player for a full back. Plays beyond his years, looks a very good prospect. Played left back but pretty obvious he's only ever going to be used as a right back. No idea of his crossing ability.
Get Shaw up and running and sign this lad, we'll have some excellent full back options.

I guess we will see Valencia starting 60% of our games next season with Dalot coming in as a rotation option. Not sure how excited I am with the prospect of more Valencia shit end product next season.

The fecker PortuBall massively overrates every Portuguese player. Him saying player x has huge talent means absolutely nothing.

Imagine Dalot attacking fullbacks overlapping Bale on right flank, cross ball to the box, so devastating attack :drool:.

Am I wrong in thinking he played most of the season as RM?

From what little I’ve seen of him on YouTube, I think he’ll possibly be an alternative signing to Willian as a strong running, powerful right winger - he looks like a proper athlete with a decent cross and impressive dribbling ability.

Valencia is solid defensively but turd going forward; if he had this kid ahead of him it’d neutralise what little he offers in terms of supporting the attack and crossing and allow him to focus on keeping things secure at the back.

Wherever he ends up playing, the kid looks a Rolls Royce.

Dalot and Chong on the right flank will be a very interesting pairing potentially...

He is definetly one of the most promissing portuguese players although he has almost no experience in senior level. Maybe this move turns out good, but i don't know how if he is mentally prepared for it. Porto fans must be angry with all the contract renewals thing. They take too long to do it and then the agent of the players get a percentage of the economic rights of the player(for "convincing" the player)
The best realistic option is to buy him for the release clause(20M euros) and loan him to porto. He would be a regular starter at right-back and play at least 6UCL games.

There was a mutual agreement between him and the club to renew his contract, all there was left was signing the paper at the end of season, which was why Porto agreed to sell Ricardo to Leicester. After so much showing off his love for the club in recent weeks both on social media and TV, and even being aware of the club's situation, he gives the finger to those who allowed him to play football on the highest level. Seems the kid has a poor character and is ill advised.

Talented players leave us every season. We can't compete financially with the top leagues. It's just how it is. What is sad though, is a player that knew that we sold our best RB and would now have the place for him, to do a great season or two for his boyhood club before leaving for richer contracts. For kids like him, handshakes mean feck all.

I'd much rather have some South American player that doesn't pretend he loves and lives the club 24/7 but will give 200% on the field. That's the players we want to keep, not mercenaries. Unlike Neves i won't miss this guy at all. If he plays against us i won't even whistle but i'll never applaud him either. We reclaimed the title without his contribution so we can do it again.

His sister lives in London. Apparently, his family moved to England whilst he is continuing his career at Porto?

Don't mind me being stalkers.

I hate how nowadays portuguese players get sold even before they've freaking played for their club. Dalot played 7 games for Porto, Bernardo Silva played 3 games for Benfica, Cancelo played 2 games for Benfica, Andre Gomes, Dier and Renato Sanches played half a season, Ruben Neves didn't have enough time to even settle as a starter, Andre Silva had lost his place in the starting eleven. Even kids from the academies are getting poached.

It's obvious Dalot would develop better by staying in Porto than he would by playing 5 games for the whole season at United so hopefully if he's going he makes sure he's going to get enough opportunities. Reading this place I'm also sure the fans won't give him the patience he needs so he better have a great start.
United fans are generally very patient, especially with young talent who show a work ethic.

If he renews you will change your opinion?
But Yeah, i understand the feeling, after all the love he has been showing(if remember well in the Dragões de Ouro gala he did a porto lover speech)

Tbf it's not really his fault United have come in for him? I'm sure he saw himself starting at Porto next season when Pereira got sold.

Personally I don't think it's a good deal for anyone, what we really need is a top RB to replace Valencia, like Kyle Walker did at City. He's played so few team games that it's hard to see him being a top player already, which means he'll be a sub option.. which isn't useful for us, nor him to develop either.

For a lot of those players moving hasn't been a bad thing though. I wish more young British players moved abroad, but few do unless their seen as a very good talent the way Jadon Sancho is. I think it forces players to grow up quicker and fight harder when they're taken out of the comfort zone of their home countries.

I do agree on Dalot though, doubt he'll be starting RB for us which doesn't help us or him.

From what little I could see he looks like Dani Alves . Here's to hoping :D. Could smell Ribalta all over this

Worth noting Marcelo only had 30 games for Fluminense before joining Real Madrid, his lack of appearances at the top level doesn't mean much :)

If we do sign him, please be patient with him and dont get on his back!

More or less been reading/hearing this about the kid.

Nothing but good things and he seems like the real deal with the talent level to become one of the best very soon. Fortunate for us he has become available as Porto were relying on him to step in for them. Random turn of events but hey I’ll take it.

I think this makes a lot of sense as well. IF we were to get Toby and Sandro, together with another first choice RB like Sidibe, it will mean that our starting back 4 next season will be filled with new players - 3 out of 4 of them, which does not sound ideal at all. Playing Valencia with Dalot as a backup and quick learner will give the newer players in defence more time to settle and give Dalot more time to get used to the league. Let's hope the deal goes through!

There's no way we're signing another rightback this year.

The Portuguese makes a ton of sense considering Valencia isn’t a liability at RB. He plays everyday and is sound but limited offensively but that’s not the end of the world. LB is in shambles in comparison and everyone at the club knows an instant starter is needed there. RB, not so much with Antonio being the excellent servant to the club he is, and this feels the right thing to do. Get a young and capable RB waiting in the wings and let the takeover be a natural process. Valencia is inevitably going to sit out games due to injury and I’m sure José will rest him time to time when he’s healthy as well. Dalot will definitely get his share of games and if he’s as good as advertised, the year after the position will be his. This upcoming season, I see a 50-50 or 60-40 split which is totally fine.
