I saw it on Fabrizio Romano's instagram story where he quoted Ten Hag, but it's probably not true. We do need another keeper, though, unless we plan to loan Butland for another season. Doubt Henderson wants to come back to be back-up.

I think he said we want him to stay and sign an extension but I don't expect him to say anything else really. Never said we're looking to sign a back up as far as I'm aware.

The good thing about this is we should have a free run at him there’s nobody else that really needs a top keeper as bad as we do so we should be able to get him for a decent price and not over Pay. If he’s as cheap as @Deco10Legend says then it’s a no brainer.

Works both way though right? Most of Morocco's or Croatia's team played well above their abilities. I think he's shown over a longer period his qualities and what kind of keeper he is and you'd hope at 23 he's got a lot of scope for improvement.
The premise of that seems to be that De Gea is here for 5 years more, which is highly unrealistic. Maybe for 1 year more, but not 5.
Also I think what Ten Hag said is smart. You don't want us to look desperate in the market when looking for a new keeper. You want us to look content with what we have, so the price of a new goalkeeper doesn't skyrocket. Could also be, that he is just OK with De Gea and prioritises other signings, but it would be out of touch with what he wants from a goalkeeper.
He is a young player, great potential, so you’ll will always paying more for that.
At Porto I would say he is over confident right now.
He kind reminds me a bit of Allison, prone to annoying mistakes here and there, but most of the time comes up with the kind of saves that wins matches.
He might feel the pressure at old trafford at first for sure like he did at the WC.
For transfermarket he is 1,86 cm. Is this his real height? 1,86 is too short for an elite Gk (especially in PL).

Costa is 6'2", and that is not short for elite players at the position; similar height to the two title-contending goalkeepers this year: Ederson and Ramsdale. Also the likes of ter Stegen, Oblak et cetera on the continental front.

I read the same as you. But I think the point is he’s probably on our books in pencil for his 1 year contract option to extend at that fee, plus the £200k he’s allegedly refused for 3/4 years. When you take that all into account. You have an alternative to spend that on a new keeper on wages that are in line with everyone in this league. So £150k p/w as we have a back up keeper on £120k p/w.
Costa would probably be my preferred choice. There's a couple of alternatives like Onana and Maignan but from the sounds of it they'd cost just as much, if not more, and both are a few years older. We need to resolve this keeper situation once and for all, keeping De Gea on and signing a deputy doesn't do anything for us.
He had a dodgy World Cup but from what I've seen of Costa he has got most of the raw materials, his passing is crisp and would improve us immeasurably in the buildup. If Porto need the money and there's a chance of an accommodated deal, that makes it a no brainer for us.

Kevin de Bruyne was rubbish at the world cup but does anybody think he's not one of the best players in the world? Think it's far too small a sample to be judging players on especially given unfamiliar surrounds and teammates (in comparison to clubmates).
Apart from the whole general goalkeeping, it would be a lovely feeling to have a goalkeeper who when we concede a penalty or reach a penalty shootout, know that we are in with a chance because the keeper might make some saves rather than hoping the opposite team mess up their pens.

It’s not non-sense because if we let DDG go since his contract is expired in 2023, then we can reduce our limit of spending this year by 19.5m which equivalent to for example signing a player for 45.5m (5 years instalment paid) with 200k pw of 5 years contract.
Giving DDG new contract let’s say 200k is only reduce our limit of spending this year by 9.1m which equivalent to for example signing a player for 19.5m with 100k pw.
Sell Henderson to Forest and go get him, DDG as the other goalie. Will do for me.
The price isn't reasonable for us this summer unless it's below the release clause, but generally think he is the goalkeeper we should go for.
