Dier - he's younger, English and he's a RED.

Yeah yeah I know... ("Well, why don't we just get some defender from Cheltenham Town who supports United, by that logic!") blah, blah...

There's no chance we'd be getting Matic for anything near a decent price, so considering that I'm going with Dier. Obviously Levy will shaft us too but at least Dier's young with bags of potential.

I think Dier could be very good if he sorts his mistakes out anyway.

Not really a fan of either player but whichever we get will be probably double their value.
Out of the 2 I'd go for Dier as mentioned is younger and has more potential, and can cover defence.
Matic would be alright for about £25m.

Dier.

I'll be fine with Matic though. The idea that a player who played 35 games for the unrivaled champions is somehow not good enough for United is something I can't get my head around.
Only Nemanja Vidic appeared in more games for United in 2008/09 than John O'Shea. Only Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo and Van der Sar started more games. Yet I doubt any of our rivals would have paid 50m - or its 2009 equivalent - for him.

Feels like a bit of a no brainer given their ages, I'd take Dier out of the two.

I thought fans wanted a CDM?

So why are we complaining about getting Matic? He's perfect for what we need.

Dier could fill in at CB aswell if we were to get him. Who's to say he won't become the next Carrick?

It's like everyone is crying out for new signings and when we look to be getting some, it's "Oh not him!"... Mourinho knows who and what he wants. Just trust in the manager ffs.

Dier. At least he's English and younger. And there's a reason for us to be fleeced.

Matic. CDM has been a problem position for us and Dier might end up being a misfit. Matic is tried and trusted. He would do the job Mourinho wants.

They're both a bit shit but, if you kidnapped my family and held a gun to my head, I think I'd scream Dier.

No brainer for me. It's Matic.

Mainly because I think he is a solid player. I like the fact that he was once a playmaker turned DM. He is comfortable with the ball and tough as nail.

Also because Jose has worked with him before and is actually convinced he can be useful for his United team. In a way, it's like when he wanted Lukaku again.

Perhaps equally as important, I think we need more experienced winners in the dressing room. Matic has won the premiera Liga once and the EPL twice, playing key roles in the winning teams. We have enough youth in that team. We need some hardened battlers and winners. We need players who know that their playing days are short and are desperate to make a mark before bowing out.

Matci has experince but he has regressed so massively that its a risk and many are rating him based on the last time he played well which is 2 seasons ago. Last season when we beat Chelsea he was the weakest link and could not be bothered chasing runners. Cant even remember the last time he had a very good game

Dier has been progressing and is playing relatively well. Young, English, versatile. He will be the better option all things considered

Dier is gold in my opinion. If not Fabinho, I'd be very satisfied with him. Mourinho seemingly wants proven this summer, otherwise Ndidi would also be on my radar.

I'd go Dier just because of youth even tho the Cafe for the most part think hes an avg Joe. It would certainly be a risk and at 60m no less.

I refuse to believe that our CDM options are limited to those 2, angry infact. There are better options out there but it seems Mourinho has his mind set

Agreed.

IF we continue in the vain of Morata /Perisic and refuse to pay the quoted prices, perhaps there is a chance Mou will see sense and extend his shortlist. However if we have to pay over the odds on someone it should be the younger player.

Completely in the minority in that I wouldn't be unhappy with either.

But I would go Matic as I think he'll have the more immediate impact in what is essentially, a young side.

The signing is designed for two things - the obvious of breaking up play and protecting the back four, but just as importantly freeing up Pogba, the man we should be building the side around and getting the best out of.

Matic for me, though as I say I'd be fine with either as long as it wrapped up quickly.

Because an English club should have it's own identity represented as such.
How many English players are needed in a team to pull this off? We have English players.

Dier for me, with an emphasis on the "if we absolutely have to", since I'd prefer someone who can also do a bit more with the ball at their feet.

If John O'Shea played 35 games for Chelsea this season they wouldn't have won the league, we can't really compare what Fergie did to anyone else. Fergie would've won the league with training cones starting 35 games a season

It is all about who would be better next season. Matic is on the way down, but more experienced. Dier is the younger player and has time to improve, plus hes English. Toss of a coin really. If I had to choose then Dier by the thickness of a fag paper due to him being English, and lets us have another foreigner position in the squad if need be.

How do you mean?

We have to have a quota of English players, or home grown for the squad. Dier would help this
Dier isn't home grown so would he still help? He spent most of his career at Sporting

If it was to happen, I think Dier would become a proper important player for us

Although It will be a ridiculous sum of money which I find hard to get my head around

Opposed to Magic, He is younger, far more versatile and would be a key player for 10 years. If it's possible I would be delighted

This is a bit of a pointless thread, since United don't even have a choice between Matic and Dier ... the latter doesn't want to leave Spurs, Pochettino wants him and Levy won't in any case sell.

So reality it's either Matic or Player X or no one.

You are welcome to keep him.
