Because we want to spend £20 million a year on the contract of a 33 year old striker who has scored 10 goals in the best part of 18 months.

Because your managers are tinkering with a first team involving a certain Fernando Torres. Bit obvious he'd take a hit in form if he doesn't play every game. The infamous partnership hasn't exactly worked out aswell how many fantasised about.

Yes. Let spent money on a striker, an old striker, when we need to improve other areas way way more. Let's turn into AC Milan.

No way are we going to go for him. He could be a good option, being on a free and obviously still having some ability, but then you look at the wages. They're astronomical, and don't represent his true value at all.

If Berbatov stays (That is case right now) then we'll have Rooney + Chicharito + Welbeck + Berbatov + Owen/Macheda for the next season..........that's enough and good enough for me.

We need a FB + 2xCM + Winger in the next season.........no strikers unless one of Rooney/Chicharito/Welbeck/Berbatov leaves the club.

I'm not talking about what we need now. I'm simply saying, should the time could and we need a fourth striker, would anyone take him for a season or two?

So is Owen. He'd be an ideal 4th choice. :smirk:

Completely different scenarios though:

1) Owen's on a far cheaper contract and tends to be dealt with on a rolling contract basis. Drogba wants big money and a long-ish deal.
2) Owen's glad to play 4/5th choice. Drogba is the sort of player that will ruin squad harmony if he's sat on the bench.

Yup. Drogba is probably the last person I would want to be 4th choice striker.

Indeed, I think many at Chelsea have been caught out at how quickly the older players have digressed in the last twelve months, you can see that in the emphasis AVB placed on Drogba and Anelka in pre-season.
Terry has been in decline for years, Lampard has turned the corner but I'm far from convinced that Drogba is shot - he's just been pissed about.

MLS perhaps?

But the MLS can't match the wages on offer from China/Middle East, or even a few of the big spending European clubs that might come calling.

I'm prepared for the abuse. But if he is let go by the Chelsea we should go for him. Well not if he wants more than the squad average, which he will, but in a world where Drogba couldn't make millions more in the MLS or Asia, we should go for him.

He goes through large periods of being shite but seems to turn it on when it matters. It's probably down to attitude to be honest as when he's feeling like it, he's still one of the best around. Shame he never seems to be that motivated.

Chelsea would be crazy to let him go if the only dispute is over the length of his contract rather than say over money. His standard remains so high that there'd be a lot of interest for him from top sides despite his age.

Thought this had been bumped because of his outrageous Busquets-like feigning of injury tonight, complete with the sneaky look at the ref to check whether he'd won the foul. Pretty shameless on his part.

Beasted Napoli tonight, unplayable at his best. It'll be interesting to see if he extends his Chelsea stay, now Terry is manager I think he will.

I'll tell you what, if we let Owen, Berba and Macheda (loan) go for next season I'd love us to get him, assuming his demands aren't outrageous.

I'd sign him tomorrow. Deadly and a battering ram. Why Chelsea want to get shot of him I dont know. I recognise he aint a spring chicken but he's still got such a presence.

Aside from him getting on a bit and a possible question mark over his commitment to the game these days, I don't think he'd fit in with our style of play. If we're going to be buying a striker this summer we need someone pacy, can you imagine Drogba sprinting down the pitch on the counter? I can't.

That and I don't like him :)

If Owen and Berba go and we can get him on a free then why the hell not ? One of the arguments for keeping Owen here was the imparting of his knowledge so let's get someone who can do the same and possibly have more of an effect on the playing side also.

No way will he come here. I just don't think he'd work up front with Rooney. His wage demands would be massive for a player who wouldn't even be a permanent starter as well.

Didn't Drogba's agent say that Chelsea is the only club in England that he'll play for

WTF!?
