Television Dexter

I didn't hate any bar 8 but it gradually declined post the John Litgow season.

Agreed. I feel season 7 was the only one that stood up to the standards set before season 4 (the Trinity killer season). That was the aftermath of Deb finding out his secret and Laguerta starting to suspect him of killing Doakes

If it had ended after season four when the creator and writing staff left it would be remembered as one of the best shows on TV, as it is that was followed by 4 seasons ranging from mediocre to utter shit which ruined it.

Started watching it for the second time a while back, watching season two at the moment. I love all the seasons except, of course, season 8.

Debra, who is balancing between glorious and insufferable in such a beautiful way through most of the show, completely fell off the wrong side of that blade in the last season. The ending was an even bigger bottle job.

Started rewatching this recently, about half way through season two at the moment.

Although I'm mostly enjoying it, it's definitely not aged well. Earlier episodes especially felt really dumbed down, some of the acting is let's say questionable, there's plot holes aplenty and now into season two I'd forgotten how annoying the English bint is.

I always thought if they'd binned it after season four it would have gone down as a great show but I'm feeling now it's definitely not comparable to the really top drawer shows.

"Pardon my tits".

Loved Dexter for the most part and for me season 3? (the Trinity killer season if memory serves) was a real high spot.

S4. Yeh that was great with a great ending.
Imo s2 should have been later than it was especially the stuff with him and doakes

The trinity killer season was the best done IMO, every part of that season was excellent. My favorite villain would have to be the ice truck killer though, just because of who he actually was. I feel like he would have made the perfect villain to end the series with.

Or they could have gone another way with the ITK something like Dexter letting him go and Doakes or someone eventually learning who he was in relation to Dexter forcing him to act.

Could definitely have got another season out of him.

Exciting news. Hopefully they will rectify the abomination of an ending. Great show, tailed off a bit at the end, and not helped by such a bad ending.

When they switched Dexter's child to an adult stunt actor for a shot of him falling off the treadmill happened, I laughed so much. Probably one of the worst stunt doubles of all time.

Oh that's great news, the last couple of seasons were such a let down and the ending disappointing. Maybe a chance of giving us a proper ending the series deserved

 oh man the image of that still makes me laugh to this day.

Should only have done five seasons. I gave up after season six i think it was. The first four seasons were unreal. I lost interest after that.

He was killing all the criminals. I would have thought this would have sounded alarms within the police department. They kind of approached it in season 2.

I kinda hope they continue where they left off. I always get tired of shows that aren't dramas but get so wrapped up in intricaties around the personal life of the main character(s) that the core that made the show fun gets pushed to the background. In the new environment, Dexter wouldn't have all this crap with family, kids, and friends, and the story could just go back to him doing his thing.

At least it has the original showrunner (S1-4). Went downhill after that. Looking forward to it, though with it being a continuation, the last series was so horrendous I don't know if a return can salvage that.

This had the worst ending until GoT took the crown

Maybe Dexter wants it back?

The only upside is that this season can't be any worse than S08

For those that watched it all, and somehow wasn't aware, Clyde Phillips was the showrunner for the first four seasons; he left and was replaced by Scott Buck (showrunner for Nurse Jackie) who did an appalling job with seasons 5,6,7 and 8.

What you probably don't know is that Clyde Phillips almost immediately became the showrunner after Scott Buck left Nurse Jackie and turned an average show into a great one for the remainder of it's run under Phillips.

Scott Buck was the problem with Dexter. Make no mistake. Clyde Phillips coming back to Dexter is a sure thing; almost as sure as Vince Gilligan is for BB/BCSaul.

Aside from the lumberjack thing, my abiding memory of that finale was Quinn and Batista deciding to let Dexter wander off after stabbing a prisoner to death with a pen, for no real reason whatsoever. Even though I'm pretty sure Quinn suspecting that Dexter was a serial killer had been an actual plot point for a while. Even the characters seemed confused by their decision. You could actually feel the writers shrugging their shoulders.

Deb was the only reason to watch by the end. As it just got progressively more and more shite in the last 3 seasons.

Thats promising, the first 4 seasons of Dexter was one of my all time favourite tv shows

If they open the season with zombie Doakes suddenly appearing & saying “surprise motherfeckers” then all will be forgiven.

edit: this scene still makes me laugh:

They’ll start it with Dexter being in the middle of his new life probably with a fake name like Jacob. And he’s all bearded and lives in a cabin.
